Unfortunately The Walkers review of June 2005 is now obsolete as Athelington Hall is no longer open to touring caravans and motor homes.
Athelington Hall is now an up market, (possessing an English Tourist Board 4 star rating) self catering establishment offering log cabin accommodation and a 'marquee on the lawn' wedding location.
June 2005 A working farm site which has a CL and six Hoseasons wooden lodges/cabins for hire. Large grounds. (Very narrow lanes leading up to Athelington and site). No clear instructions where to site. CL field is on left as you drive in. Hook-up, h/c water, toilets and showers. Toilets and showers need a total makeover/modernisation - not very nice or clean. Tepid water from showers. No soap available in toilets. Rubbish area outside toilets was totally overflowing at the time of our visit. Bags had been broken open and contents strewn about. Two domestic sized dustbins were emptied at the end of our stay and then vanished completely!! At least the area was then clean and tidy though!
Small indoor games room being renovated: table tennis, air hockey, connect4, croquet. Indoor swimming pool (heated, but chilly!) was adequate but old. Play areas good (swings, slide) and lots of running about area and other garden toys. Only drawback was the owners two friendly border collie dogs which were allowed to roam freely, hence, doggie dirt to be trodden in by toddlers' feet. Not nice.
Didn't see anything of owners apart from paying the bill! Nice, quiet and peaceful location. Good choice of local attractions. Wouldn't go back unless toilets/showers/dogs were sorted out.
