 Third visit to Shaw Ghyll. Lovely site and area for walking. Very clean and quiet. Friendly and informative warden. Pleasant fellow campers.
Hawes 20-25 minutes walk through fields of sheep and cows (longer if you walk via the road) and downhill. Harder of course coming back, some steep climbs!
Showers 50p, hot and adjustable, lasts ages. Hairdryer in ladies 20p. Adjacent Shaw Ghyll Woods beautiful.
Only minor criticism this time (did not happen on previous visits) we were told to park to far side of hardstanding, which is comprised of large stones. This meant our awning/tent was also for the majority on the hardstanding and was uncomfortable underfoot. No reason given so can only assume this was to allow adequate personal space for incoming large caravan on next pitch.
Rural location. Not much in Hawes itself but a must visit is the Creamery. If you are looking for shops and large supermarkets it is not the site for you.
The nearest large supermarket is about 25 miles away so bring everything you need with you. There is a butchers/bakers and small, basic food shop in Hawes, anything else you will need to travel.
All in all a lovely site and would recommend.

An example of a really lovely campsite. We stayed in a roof tent, while our adult children stayed in a standard tunnel tent with their dog. The campsite kindly pitched us together.
The pitches were very generous and spacious, plenty of room for our day tent / living pod and our dog on his long leash.
The warden was very friendly and stopped by several times to check everything was going well.
The showers are very roomy, there are two private shower rooms so once you’re inside it’s all yours. They do take a 50p but that lasts so long I was finished showering before the 50p ran out!
The Green Dragon pub is just a lovely, short(ish) walk by the river through the woods and down the hill. Well worth popping in, beautiful old pub which has recently been taken over by the family which own the Tann Hill and Ribble Viaduct pubs.
All in all we had an amazing weekend and a lovely stay at Shaw Ghyll.

Lovely quiet site in a beautiful location close to Hardraw and Hawes. Nice clean facilities.
We received a warm welcome on arrival. The weather was a bit mixed but it didn't spoil our time in this gorgeous part of the country.
It's our 3rd time visiting the area, 1st time at this site, the only problem we had was an abundance of road works/road closures which led to some long diversions.
We will definitely return to this area again in the future.

Beautiful campsite location close to Hawes and Hardraw.
Generous spaces with stream running by and lots of wildlife and red squirrels.
Owners came by to check we were okay and say hello which was appreciated.
Clean well kept and managed facilities.

Lovely hidden location, very quiet and tranquil, the sound of the river runs right by the site, it is closed off on all sides by big trees. This is a small site so recommend trying to book as far in advance as you can!
Shower and toilets are the best I’ve ever seen for a campsite, and the 50p per shower is well spent.
No issues with electric hookup which was handy to have at the additional cost.
John was very helpful and fun to chat with.

A lovely site with spotless facilities.
Very quiet when we were here.
Hawes is nearby, within walking distance, and has a great fish and chip shop with cafe.

One of the best sites we’ve been.
Spacious places, very clean facilities and wonderful surroundings.
A true Yorkshire Dales experience.

Just had two nights at Shaw Ghyll and what a wonderful site. Situated in a small flat little sheltered valley with the ghyll running alongside.
Facilities are impeccably maintained and the wardens are friendly and helpful.
All the pitches are flat, some with hard standings, EHU is available and surrounded by herbaceous borders which were in flower in July making the whole vista a riot of colour.
Green Dragon is only 3/4 mile downhill (uphill on the way back) which serves excellent ale and reasonably priced food.
Shaw Ghyll campsite gets a 10/10 from me!

Quiet site set in a nice location,
Good value for money,
Nice flat area for the tent.
A short drive from Hawes or 10-15 minute walk to Simonstone Hall Hotel & 30 minute walk to the Green Dragon Pub in Hardaw.

Travelled in poor weather, wet on arrival but hard standing pitch was beneficial.
Warm greeting in the morning with lots of practical information. Toilet facilities clean and well looked after.
Great walking from the site or within short distances.
Well placed to explore Hawes, quiet site and we enjoyed the tranquillity.
