Really nice site. Pitches individual - separated by hedge. Own tap very useful. Really close to toilets/shower facilities. Working farm which was away from the camping. Very good location for touring around. Would definitely use again.
We stayed at Streamstown Caravan Park over the Easter break and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners were very helpful and suggested some day trips for us to visit during our stay. The toilets, shower and kitchen facilities were clean and ideal for what we needed. This park is perfect for a relaxing stay in the countryside and makes an ideal base for touring Ireland.
My wife and I stayed for 5 enjoyable nights at Streamtown Caravan and Camping site just outside Roscrea in Southern Ireland. We were met and greeted by the very helpful owners and shown to our ample pitch, part grass part hard standing separated from our neighbours by a low hedge. This is a working dairy farm which was of great interest to me being from an agricultural family. The toilets and showers are in separate units, different to what we were used to but this had its advantages.
We visited The Irish National Stud, Japanese Water Gardens, The Rock of Cashel, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Clonmel and Thurles whilst staying at Streamtown as it is in such a central location. There is a large Tesco in Roscrea and an excellent petrol station which has its own bakery.
I would certainly recommend Streamtown to anyone wanting a central Irish location convenient to the motorway system. If you are looking for a well kept family run site this is for you.
Stayed here for 5 nights, and was generally happy with the site. It is very small, which meant we could see the kids wherever they were! The playground soon lost its pull, consisting of one swing and one slide, but everyone was very friendly, and my kids played with other campers most evenings.
The staff were friendly enough. The toilet/shower block warm and mostly clean. I thought it was a bit of a cheek advertising a 'campers kitchen' as being available, when you have to buy tokens to make the cooker work, and the fridge was so old and dirty I was not happy to put anything inside! The washer was also 4 Euros a load, as was the dryer, which I think was a little expensive.
The camping experience was slightly ruined by the very bright spotlight that shone directly down onto our ptch, making it possible to read inside my tent at midnight! Also there was a LOT of heavy goods vehicles using the road which is only a few metres away from every pitch. They ran throughout the night to a large agricultural depot and haulier a mile away.
On the whole it was an acceptable standard, but nothing to write home about. If we holiday in the area again, I would look for an alternative site.
Roscrea itself is a nice, up and coming tourist town. A convenient location for touring central Ireland, although the campsite is either a long walk or a short car drive out of town.
Stayed here for 6 nights, very nice site, pitches are divided by small laurel hedges, some are smaller than others so you would struggle to put a awning up. Toilet block is modern with good showers + disabled shower & toilet, there is also a games room, a campers room with facilities + there is washing machines & dryers. There is a small Tesco supermarket in Roscrea and a good variety of shops. This site is handy for Birr, 13 miles: (oldest telescope in the world), Thurles 20 miles: good shopping centre there, Portlaoise 24 miles, also it is on the edge of Slieve Bloom Mountains.
