Arrived having booked and prepaid. Me and 6 year old daughter, just one night, treat to go camping and the beach!
Wish we hadn't bothered. The 'campsite' is basically a track that leads to an open-air 'eco-shower' (no sun no hot water) a very ropey portable cabin WC and then a slight hill climb to pitch a tent either side of a track. There are no marked out pitches, the grass wasn't mown, it was technically flat but with huge tussocks of grass to negotiate.
I was surprised that the place was so busy, however given the clever marketing of the website (cool website but no photos!) perhaps in hindsight I needn't have been.
Suffice to say there are no facilities and its in Georgeham not in Croyde, so its at least a mile if not more to the beach if you want to walk it and avoid the car park fees.
They really should promote the campsite more honestly, I'm not worried about rough camping but it would be nice to know! Coupled with my little girl feeling disappointed with the set-up and a lack of kids on site for her to team up with, it was a bit of a downer.
Upsides? Well there is a sort of a sea-glimpse over the trees.Nice friendly fellow campers (but that is pretty general I find!) who were strumming guitars and chilling out nicely (!) it has the potential to be OK.
I didn't bother with the shower, daughter who is a hardy sort said it was cold and exposed, no need to alarm other campers unduly with me in there!
All in all I'd rate it only 3/10 for the little view and the fact that there's practically no rules and you can book for one night. But the fact is it promises much and delivers little, one night may be all you want!
