Ideal for those who love heritage and exploring along with history and nature bringing the welsh valleys to you

On the doorstep of the milfraen mountain in south wales, the heart of the valleys its everything old welsh

The inn itself is warm cosy and a overall quaint little welsh inn.

Close to Blaenavon ironworks and the big pit coal museum.

Great overall location dog and child friendly. Ten out of ten

We stopped here because we wanted to be close to the World Heritage sites in Blaenavon. It is a 5 minute drive or a short walk to Big Pit (I cant advise on the length of a walk because we didnít do it).

The site is under construction and is obviously behind a cosy pub. Not the most beautiful of locations but it isnít ugly either and reminds you that you are in the centre of what was once amongst the busiest industrial centres in the world.

Gravel pitches are laid out and are a bit small; our mh is 7. 5 m and only just fitted in its Ďbayí. Levelling blocks are required on all pitches for those like me who are insistent on being flat :-). There is no EHU available yet but the owners intend to have them installed in the near future. Likewise, the toilet and shower block are under construction and expected to be open in spring 2019.

The pub is a warm and welcoming haven; friendly owners, staff and locals. Good value although basic standard pub fare but was fresh and portions ample. Good selection of bottled ciders and real ales, I didnít note any cask ale or cider available.

The owners leave the external porch door to the pub unlocked allowing access to the toilets if required. Charge was £10/night for this stop and I recommend it for the purpose we used it for (proximity to Blaenavonís fantastic museums)

I would like to say how much we enjoyed this camp site, the owners were very friendly, and could not do enough to help. We did not use the toilets as we had our own, the water tap was in the middle of the field, the playground was lovely for children, we really enjoyed the meal in the pub 1/2 a chicken and chips followed by chocolate Sunday, the area in the Brecon Beacons is very peaceful. We went to the Big Pit, The Iron Works, all are free, also the Steam Gala was on, excellent as I was able to get on the train at The Whistle Inn, hope to return next year.

CL type campsite Field attached to small pub which does meals in the evening. Good steals. Friendly welcome with character landlord. Very basic facilities though pub loos left open overnight

Wonderful setting just outside Blaenavon. Open views over the town and surrounding hillsides.

Steam train runs to the Whistle Inn. We cycled through country park to the Big Pit and the ironworks

Only £7 per night. Memorable stay

Enjoyed our 3 night stay at the Whistle Inn very much. Very friendly landlord made sure the pubs toilets were accessible to us throughout the night, since the outside ones were closed for the winter. These facilities were spotless.

The pub itself is very well maintained and had a lovely real fire which we really appreciated. The meals served are of generous portions and nicely presented. The pub is open from 7. 00-11. 30pm. (Closed on Mondays).

The pub is situated not far from public transport, which is very useful if want it. Weather permitting we may well return over Christmas. We were too late for the steam train which stops outside the pub this time - but plan to enjoy this facility on a future visit. Breathtaking views from the mountains a short walk away, lots of easy flat walking for those not fit enough for mountains! I highly recommend this site.

Stayed at The Whistle on bank holiday weekend in May 2009. Very basic site with a toilet block, drinking water tap and the pub attached which serves food. The site is not what sells this though it's the surroundings - beautiful brecon beacons in the distance, Garn lakes to walk the dog round, we watched the steam train come in and out - it stops at the pub! the site is situated in a world heritage site and the iron works and big pit for which it is famous are all within walking distance.

If you are looking for the campsite ritz, this is not for you but if you are looking for somewhere cheap for a few days while you take a look around it is. At only £4 per night you get what you pay for.
