When we phoned up to book we were treated by a really rude abrupt lady, anyway that didn't put us off, but it should have acted as a warning
When we arrived we found out own pitch and she drove round about 7pm to collect the money, she didn't get out the car and just tooted her horn, so I had to go and see her, she wanted cash, but I after her rudeness I wanted to pay by card, well that was too much for her, and she sighed, but eventually she sent over the bank details.
The toilet / shower facilities were in need of money being spent on them, not sure how people would cope if the site was full as there are only a couple of loos and showers.
On the plus side, the site is lovely, clean and well maintained, nice fishing ponds, ( we didn't fish but there was a few on there ). There was noise from oulton park race track, but when that wasn't running you could hear plenty of wildlife.
Would we go back again? Only if it changed hands. via mobile
We spent 4 nights here over August Bank Holiday. When we booked we asked for a pitch on the Camping and Caravanning CL however no availability but offered rally field that was close to the amenities, however when we arrived we could see no facility block at all.
We were told by a neighbour where to find them. There were 2 toilets and 1 shower and 1 disabled toilet to cater for rally field, C&CC and C&MC and very basic. They were also a 5-10min walk away from us!
We went as we visited Chester Zoo so location good, also for Oulton Park Close by, enough can hear the cars/bikes, this was not an issue for us as motorsports fans!
This is a medium sized commercial site with both a CL and a CS attached. The facilities are quite basic but were clean enough. The 2 showers (no extra charge)and 3 toilets are housed in a lean to affair and are unheated.
The grounds of the caravan site are pleasant with mature trees and bushes and there are several fishing lakes which are very picturesque. I found noise from a local motor racing circuit to be bothersome.
Had a very pleasant 4 days staying over the May Bank Holiday. Whilst I agree with the other comments that the toilet and shower facilities are basic, they are however kept clean and tidy.
The fishing was excellent and as novices we were freely given advice by all the other experienced anglers. As others have commented there are no facilities for children which suited my allergy to screaming children!
Just returned from our weekend at Holmston Hall, firstly what lovely people that run it, they were very nice and helpful, we had wanted electric and there were none left on the tent field so we were asked would we mind going in with the caravans, that was no issue to us, we had a lovely pitch and met some lovely caravanners.
Jim fished on the Saturday, which he really enjoyed, all the fishermen and ladies were very nice and pleasant.
The toilets were not the nicest by a long shot, 2 toilets and one shower, I didn't have to queue for my shower although when jim went he was in a queue of 4.
There is a games room that had a pool table and darts etc in.
Clay pigeon shooting and 3 ponds for fishing, plenty to do if you wanted.
We had a mixture of weather but still managed to enjoy ourselves and at £6 per night plus £2 for electric, we aren't grumbling.
Will definitely return, was a nice relaxing break.
From first view as you drive in the site looks very clean and well maintained.
Three fishing ponds , shooting range and tennis court.
We were on a hard standing pitch which was good with a water point and elec at the back . There was a rally in the field with around 30 in total and also in the other rally field there was about 10 others also in the small caravan club pitch was full.
For the whole site there was 1 toilet, and 1 shower. No washing up area or hot water. They were on the other side of the campsite so a good walk was needed to get there.
Cost of camping is a bit steep if you ask me, with the facilities you get. £12 a night for the far end of the camp.
This is a very interesting site, very quirky in its own little way. There are three areas for campers - a small Caravan Club associated site, a larger Caravanning and Camping Club CL site and a rally field. All three were nicely kept, with hardstandings and electric hook up available on both of the club sites. On the grounds there are three fishing areas, shooting range, tennis court, boules pitch, ornamental pond with a gazzilion fish, small games room and newly planted wooded area. All of the facilities are nicely done, not big and commercial but functional and nicely kept giving the site a rustic, homely feel. This is not a big commercial site, its more a quirky interesting place. The fishing pools attract a lot of day visitors but these are parked separately to most of the camping and didn't intrude on our weekend there.
We only found one basic toilet and shower on site but found that it wasn't a problem, with there rarely being more than one person in the queue.
Locally there is plenty to do within a short driving distance. Delamere forest is only a couple of miles away with walking, cycling and Go Ape. Other local attractions include the ice cream farms, Joderal Bank, Moldsworth motor museum. Chester is maybe a half hour drive if that with all its attractions.
The sites resident ducks are wonderful to watch. Very tame and wander about the place not at all bothered by people, and the 15 ducklings parading around during our stay were just lovely!
Warning - The site seems to have some drainage problems. Although a fellow camper who is a regular there tells me that new drainage has been built, it was definitely boggy on arrival. There are plenty of places to park near your tent without getting the car stuck in the mud. The rally field appeared to dry out the fastest but definitely take your wellies!
I cant rate this site for child friendliness as it is listed as adult only in some places, however there were lots of children at the site over this weekend and there is plenty to entertain them.
