Please note we have been advised that this site has closed, and no longer offers camping, motorhome or caravanning pitches, although the inn itself is still open. If you know that this situation has changed in the future, please could you let us know. Many thanks
Easy to find and close to the A30. The actual location is lovely, the camping area behind the pub is grassy with some trees for shade. Hook ups were available. We were the only campers on a bank holiday weekend. They have removed the toilet block, and seem to be more geared towards log cabins. This wasn't an issue for us in a Motorhome.
I see other reviewers complained about the road, not sure why there were about 2 cars all night and we were able to pitch at about 200m away.
The owners & staff were very friendly and helpful and the pub food was very good.
Overall a great stop over for 1 or 2 days in a Motorhome.
Stayed here as part of a motorcycle tour. Staff were helpful and accommodating when we turned up without a booking.
Facilities for campers are basic and limited: one WC and shower between all campers and a bunk house which had at least 15 rooms, I feel lucky I got a shower as every other time I went back the facility was locked. I'm a big guy and the shower is tiny, I could barely turn around. Having said that it was clean and hot water.
Food was good and the bar nice to sit and drink in. You can hear the A30 from this site but I didn't find it a problem.
Nice stop over for a night but could do with more ablution facilities
We didn’t book this site as used it as a stop off on the way to Cornwall.
We turned up & booked in at reception & was given a pitch, due to the time we arrived did not have time to look around the site but it looked lovely (it’s situated to the back & side of the pub). We ate in the pub which was ok but nothing to write home about.
Pots wash is outside with no shelter so if it’s raining you’ll get wet! The shower blocks/toilets are not good, although there was hot water you would not want to use the facilities as they are dirty & showers are not at all private with only a shower curtain to pull across & no where to put your cloths or towels.
We had an emergency in the morning at 8. 30 but could not raise anyone from the reception/pub. Can’t comment on friendliness of the staff as we didn’t really see any!
Small site which the owner appears to be winding down in favour of wooden chalets.
Not busy when we stayed Bank Holiday. Shower and toilet facilities very good, always clean and hot, hot water!
Pub serves great food!
Quite a lot of noise from main road and no trees to help screen this.
Easy walk to viaduct and longer walk to reservoir at Meldon, great views!
Enjoyed out 2 night stay apart from one camper who let their dog wander round the site off a lead, early in the morning. He peed up the side of our tent!
Award-winning camping and glamping on the edge of Dartmoor National Park near Tavistock, Devon. 40 grass and hardstanding pitches for tents, touring caravans and motorhomes with optional electric hook-ups. Choose between the scenic Daffodil Field with moorland views or the sheltered old walled garden. For those preferring a bit more comfort, the park provides camping pods and mega pods.
Immaculate facilities with free hot showers, toilets, hairdryers, underfloor heating, laundry, dishwashing, games room, small shop, WIFI and playground. The onsite manor house hosts a dog-friendly restaurant and bar serving evening meals. Surrounded by mature woodlands with direct access to Dartmoor, with Tavistocks amenities just a short drive away. Perfect spot to explore Devon and Cornwall's main attractions Find out more here
Surprisingly the campsite had plenty of space while we stayed here for two nights, although its not the school holidays yet.
Plenty of well looked after, sheltered and flat pitches although a bit on the small side if you have a larger tent.
We also sampled the food in the pub and were surprised at the choice and reasonable prices. We were not disappointed with our choices - good sized portions and freshly cooked.
The toilets and showers were pretty clean (male - can't vouch for the ladies side though) but the only downside we would highlight was the fact it appeared the staff didn't keep to the cleaning schedule (no loo paper in the gents for at least 24 hours - so we had to resort to the ones in the pub) Not a problem for us this time but it may not suit everyone.
Others have commented on the road noise from the A30 - you could definitely hear it but not enough to spoil our visit.
Given the above we would certainly stop here again but probably only for a night or two.
Stayed here as part of our tour of the south west, it really is a lovely little site, beautiful views around the valley and a really nice little inn,
Toilets were always kept very clean and the showers were always clean, hot and no queues!
We had sunday lunch in Betty Cottles Inn, it was very nice and we got plenty of food for a reasonable price,
There is plenty to do in the local area, some really nice walks through the woods up to the old railway bridge across the valley, and over to the reservoir, also, we would strongly recommend lydford gorge, we had a brilliant day there!
The ground was a little soft, due to the amount of rain that we had, but there was still plenty of dry ground to pitch on, the ducks were happy!
Its about half mile away from the motorway, which you can hear a little, but not enough to annoy you, sleep was not a problem!
The only complaint we had was with the wasps, no matter what we tried we could not get rid of them, we later found that it was a problem with the whole area at that time, so don't let that put you off!
We will be back to this site, we would strongly recommend this site to people who want a nice clean, quiet site,
We passed through here on the Coast to Coast cycle route and were mainly attracted by the fact it was a pub with a campsite. There were only a couple of other tents there, although it was Easter and quite cold in that area still.
The showers were great and there was a washing machine and dryer we used to wash our bike gear. We locked our bikes up to a hand rail behind the pub which wasn't ideal.
The pub itself was not as 'traditional' as we were expecting, it was large but had a bit of an identity problem. The food was not very nice, just unfresh and overcooked.
The campsite was quite pretty but the noise from the motorway on the other side of the valley was not something you could ignore and we were woken early to the sound of cars whizzing past.
Overall a bit disappointing but would stay there again if really had to.
