We stayed at Les Ilots for 14 nights, which was not our original intention. I had suffered a blip with my health resulting in a short admission to a hospital in Vannes.
It was our intention to get an earlier ferry home, so I found this motorhome Aire near Saint Malo. We ended up staying because I felt okay and couldn't get through to Brittany Ferries anyway.
I believe the site was once a municipal and it was taken over and run as a motorhome Aire, so you won't get on with a caravan. In all the time we were there, we did not see any other Brits, just French, Belgians, Dutch and Germans, which was okay for us.
The staff at reception speak passable English and were very helpful, but don't take bookings.
You drive on, find a pitch and tell reception when you catch someone in. It's a pretty free and easy atmosphere on site with no warden or owner interference, which was good.
Everything goes quiet at night. It was Easter holiday, so there were French kids racing round on electric scooters. I'm sure the management will ban this after someone gets hurt. Get there early if you want to get on for the weekend as it gets very busy.
Plenty of hardstandings and 10 amp electricity for everyone, all included in the price, which was a tenner a night in low season.
5 minute walk to a very pleasant beach and a couple of minutes more to the village of Rotheneuf, which has a good Boulangerie, a Grocery store, restaurant and bar - also a Pharmacie. Bus stop right outside the site and regular buses to Saint Malo and Cancale. The Saint Malo bus stops outside a big Leclerc - check with driver as some of the number sixes take a different route.
You should get a grassed area with most pitches, which is nice for sitting out and for French dog owners to use as a toilet (for their dogs!). The younger ones seem to use bags and scoop it up, but the older ones generally don't, so be careful on the pavements going up to the village. I think a number of people live there permanently.
No showers or toilets and two motorhome service points. I would go there again, but it might not be to everyone's taste.
I personally wish we had places like this in the UK.
