We were there during the school holiday period so as you would expect it was near to capacity. We were there for 13 nights. It was me, the wife and our two children of 11 and 9. Our pitch was 54 I think at the far end just down from the second toilet, shower and washing block and the gate to the dunes and the beach. We are asked for a shady pitch and it was just right with some cover but not completely 'dark'. Our pitch was pretty roomy, some were a little more cramped but perfectly reasonable in my view. It was good to be at that end I feel as it was a quieter and simply more pleasant. A bit more of a stroll to the bar, pool, shop however.
We used the bar/restuarant once when we bought three pizzas. They were very nice and the bar area had a nice feel to it. We just prefer to drink 'at home'. Could never get the free wifi to work, tried 3 times and asked at reception who weren't particularly helpful - in keeping with our general experience with them. They weren't terrible, just OK.
We went to the pook once. It was mobbed and there were really strict about wearing trunks rather than swimshorts. It's supposed to be for hygiene reasons but kids go out of the pool area in their trunks. Our lad as specific swim shorts that he doesn't wear away from the pool but the rules are the rules. Anyhow, it's not a particularly large pool, is busy and noisy during peak season - so we just left it. We prefer the beach anyhow.
Talking of which the dunes, beach and sea are terrific. Lovely sand, plenty of room, the tide doesn't go out too far. When it's in it is really good for swimming because there is a bit of a shelf that means after 10 metres you've got a good swimming depth. When the tide is out a little it becomes great for paddling, body boarding, wave jumping.
Back to the campsite itself. The facilities struggled to cope a little at this busy period. Sometimes you had to wait for a shower or to wash your dishes. Water wasn't very hot in the dishwashing room - or indeed the showers sometimes. The showers didn't give a good spray. The dishwash room flooded a little. The water taps weren't great and the electric hook up box a bit worse for wear. Not much in the way of recycling available. All adequate and liveable but not top notch.
Oh, just remembered, the children's playground, table tennis tables, etc. Are not great and could do with a major revamp.
Plenty of supermarket options nearby, the local town is pleasant enough as are some of the other coastal towns. A visit to Puy du Fou is a must if you haven't been before.
If you are beach lover this is a great option and a safe bet. If you want top notch facilities, you may find better - though you could also find a lot worse - and a pay a bit more.
Other than that. You just need to decide if you want to be near the bar, pool, etc or at the 'top end'.
Les Cypres is a large(ish) camp site just south of the town of St Gilles Crois de Vie on the French Atlantic coast.
The site is well maintained and is clean and tidy. There is a pleasant bar, where drinks are reasonably priced, a large play area for the kids, pools (indoor and out), and direct access (5 minute walk) to the beach via a path through the dunes.
We've been on two occasions now, and both times we have been at the back end of the site, near the beach. This area has it's own shower and toilet block, together with an area for washing the dishes.
It does feel a bit crowded at this end of the site, with a mixture of pitch shapes and sizes not helping. The first year we went, we had no option but to leave our car at the main reception area, a ten minute walk from our van. We *just* managed to squeeze in this year. Access is also a bit tight, be prepare to push your van into place.
The pool / bar area is lovely, and it's possible to sit outside the bar with a drink, keeping the kids on the play area in view.
The town is a real treat, easily walkable (even easier on a bike), with plenty to see and do for adults and children.
I don't know if we'd go back for a third time, chiefly because of the feeling of being crammed into a small pitch in such close proximity to other campers. That said, we've enjoyed both of our trips to Les Cypres.
We came here after Pors Peron in search of some good weather and boy did we get it ?We stayed for 7 nights and had a fantastic pitch near the pool (108)but again we had to unhitch the van and shove with a good bit of help from my Dutch (Bert)and French (Claude)Neighbours. We had probably the best pitch we have ever had, it was close to the pool and bar so we could watch the brats from the pitch. The staff were all excellent and only too ready to help me improve my French. The beach is a 15m walk across sand dunes and the gates back into the site close at 2230 so be warned. The nearest town is St Gilles Croix De Vie and it is picture post-card beautiful but again is very expensive for beer and grub if you fancy eating out. There is a massive Leclerc shopping centre on the outskirts of St Gilles but again it's dear for the essentials.
I'm going to book this for 1 week next year on the way back to Le Havre from Spain as a stop over on the way home.
During late Aug/early Sept, we decided to go to France for camping but we have made no booking as we don't know much of the area.
We determined to be near the sea and beach, we stumbled across Les Cypres. The staff allow us to choose our own pitch after viewing them.
This is a very large campsite and cater for various campers. They have area for family camping, also they have an area for people like us which like a bit of peace and quiet.
Our pitch is only 800m from the beach with campsite's own private entry. Also, it is within walking distance to town. ( around 15 to 20 mins along the seafront)
All facilities are very clean and tidy.
The only downside is they do not allow Charcoal BBQ because their location is situated near a nature reserve.
We are going back this year again and hope to be able to pitch at the same area again!
