Please note we have been advised that this site is now permanently closed, and no longer offers camping, motorhome or caravanning pitches. If you know that this situation has changed in the future, please could you let us know. Many thanks
No longer sensibly priced. £20 per night for the woeful facilities is a shocker. We will not return. Another camper told us they paid £10 last year and were charged £20 this year. It is clear that the owners have done little to maintain anything here to anything like an acceptable standard.
Broken windows, broken shower, very tatty external washing up sink with no hot water, power hook up hanging off a rotten wooden post. The sign says to clear up after your dog which of course we always do. Shame that rule doesn’t apply to the owners dogs.
We’ve stayed at some campsites that are tired and somehow absolutely charming for it as despite being “old” they were clearly loved and cared for by the owners and we have enjoyed being there. Not this one.
There are very few campsites near Sherborne so there is a great opportunity there for someone to do it properly nearby.
Had three nights here in July, we chose this site as we prefer a quiet site and this was perfect, pretty much as others have reviewed, a smallish field with rough grass, we were told to pitch where we liked depending on whether we wanted the sun in the morning or evening, there are electric points on both sides of the field. The wash rooms are very basic but clean, the washing up facility was an old kitchen sink unit adjacent to the washrooms with only cold water, but knowing this I boiled up some water and washing up in the rain means that you don’t have to rinse the suds off!
Very friendly owners, and reasonably priced, if you want five star facilities then go elsewhere and pay a five star price, I would have no problem returning.
Would highly recommend nearby Sherborne, a lovely town with a super selection of independent shops and an amazing abbey.
Upon arrival after a 146 mile non stop drive we were greeted warmly by our friendly hostess who settled us in quickly (pouring rain for that week). Idyllic setting for us 'old 'uns' surrounded by lovely horses in adjourning fields, peace and quiet. We nipped down to Yeovilton to visit my old air station at Yeovilton. In that week week were able to out every day albeit the rain followed us, this site is more than adequate showers and toilets very clean, hot water would be nice at the external washing area but this is what it is all about. TV reception is fine although we used a booster. Mob/Phone was good. In milborne port, 3 miles away, one must visit the 'The Tipping Philosopher' sited amongst the picturesque setting of thatched cottages, good Somerset fare in great friendly local surroundings.
After week it was time to move on to our next pitch in south Chard.
We have a lovely picture of the lady of the manor in the 11th century portals waving goodbye. We will be back. Recommended.
Myself, my boyfriend and our dog stayed here in our tent with 2 friends next door in another tent for 4 nights in August.
This is a lovely, simple campsite that just allows you to get on with chilling out undisturbed.
It is set on a equestrian farm and horses are in the fields surrounding the camping.
The facilities are basic but adequate, two showers and toilets in the ladies with free hot water, 1 shower and two toilets in the gents. We pitched at the furthest part of the field but was still only a short walk from them.
The site was quiet and we never queued to use them.
Only down side was the washing up sink was cold water only and not covered (didn't rain on us but interesting if it did!), tricky when trying to wash up after a fry up so would send the boys to do it and fill washing up bowl from gents.
All in all a nice site so long as you have a car as no easily walk able amenities. Great value for money!
This award winning Adults Only campsite has a working 17th century watermill in a peaceful wooded valley within the Exmoor National Park. Grass and hardstanding pitches, all set beside the River Exe or the sparkling mill stream, with electric, water, drainage, and TV hook-ups. A leisurely stroll up to a weir, and an area where dogs may run free and splash in the river.
Facilities include the beautiful dog walk, free wifi, fishing, modern toilet and shower block, dog wash, working watermill (tours on most Sunday mornings), salmon pass on the weir, shop, bus service, and excellent pubs in the locality. The site has beautiful views, an abundance of wildlife and many footpaths leading directly to the Exmoor woodlands and rivers. Find out more here
This campsite is a small, very quiet and relaxed site. It is set within a working farm, they also hold equestrian events in the adjoining fields. Our daughter loved an evening walk in the fields to see the horses.
The owners were very friendly and would often stop for a chat. The toilet and shower facilities were in a small nearby block which were kept clean, although a hot tap in the sinks would be better.
This site is very good value for money, £10 per night all in during peak season is unheard of!
Overall we enjoyed our stay in this peaceful part of Somerset.
A small well run camp site, with all the basics, clean showers, toilets and electric hook up if required!
Owner was a very nice lady and very laid back about where to 'pitch' up which is nice, the camp wasn't overcrowded and quiet at night, all in all a great little camp site and only £12 a night, worth a stay if passing through the area.
It is a working farm, with lots of horses around in the fields, but camp it self is set back off the road so no traffic noise.
Stopped here for one night en route to South West without having any information about the site from here or its website, but decided to chance it after calling owner. Turns out to be small, simple and quiet little gem of a site!
Camping field is by the farm house, bordered on one side by trees and stone walls around other sides. It has lovely views over countryside and farm land. Horses in paddocks next to site add to the ambiance. The garden and kitchen garden are also beautiful and well tended.
Facilities are clean and look newly converted with a couple of showers and toilets in separate men's and women's washrooms.
Owner was friendly and stopped to chat and help with questions. £8 per pitch per night.
Would definitely stay here again and spending one night here didn't do justice to the place.
