This is just the sort of site we like, but it's not the 2 acres of level ground as described in the C&CC Big Sites Book, more like 1 acre of undulating ground, but we found it surprisingly easy to level up without using chocks or levelling ramps. Cost is £10 with ehu.
The site is eay to find, suggest going to St. Martins from the roundabout on the A5 and turning right signed Gobowen, then Sarn Lane is the first road on the right, single track, about 1/2 mile.
We received a friendly greeting from Calvin the owner and then his wife brought us a large folder of local attractions. Since then (we are still here), we have been left alone and we are the only ones here which is great for us. We have horses and chickens for neighbours (agree about the eggs, 20p each and lovely).
Stan's supermarket is very good, surprisingly big, seems you can buy anything you could possibly want or hope for. There is also a petrol station, to find turn left, left and right from the site. Oswestry has more shops, but for for proper retail therapy, head for Wrexham.
There are 2 lovely riverside pubs, the Cross Foxes at Overton Bridge and The Boat at Erbistock, great for a hot day. Also try the mountain road from Trevor to World's End and then down to Minera or Wrexham.
We originally booked for 2 nights and ended up staying for 5, because we liked the site and its proximity to North Wales, in particular, Llangollen.
The site owners are very friendly and welcoming and gave us a folder containing information about local walks and tourist attractions, soon after arrival.
The site itself is a small field with views over surrounding countryside, big enough to take 5 units with each unit having plenty of space around it.
The facilities on offer are - access to drinking water, a washing up area, chemical disposal and recycling waste bins, all sited conveniently and kept clean. There are no showers or toilets, but we didn't find this a problem and enjoyed using our own toilet and shower!
Freshly laid eggs are left in a basket next to the chicken run if you wish to buy any and we did - they were delicious!
This is a place where you can relax. Every one we met was very friendly and helpful. There is an excellent supermarket close by (Stan's - a family run, independent store) where there is a wide choice of products at very reasonable prices.
The nearby canal path takes you to a restaurant and a pub. We only did part of the walk (weather!)so can't say what they are like - save that for our return visit!
If you want somewhere quiet to recover from the hassle of every day life than this is a place for you.
