If your looking for the perfect camp site in a perfect location then this is the one for you. I have just returned from a weeks camping with my family of 2 boys 8&4.
The pitches are spacious and nestled under and around the trees. (Though no pitch outlines which makes it a little hard to stop people walking over your boundarys )
The facilities are clean and even though there is only one block for the whole site I didn't have to queue. (though could do with updating and possible addition of another block)
The pool is a bonus and both my children loved it. The play are was also a big hit and didn't see my eldest till it was dark most nights as this was a fab place for the children to hang out.
The owners are lovely, always happy to help though the shop could be stocked with more local produce.
The fire pits are fab, yes £16 to hire per night may sound steep but well worth a last night party. You collect it all ready to light and a box of more wood. We lit ours at 8. 30 and it was still going at 1am!
It is a shame that we live so far away from Alpine Grove but would deffently return next time we are down in Sometset.
We spent a long weekend at this campsite and thoroughly enjoyed it. The site itself was great, with our tents being hidden away among the tress. Facilities were clean and I never had to wait for either the showers or toilet. Swimming pool kept the kids occupied, as well as the trampoline and table tennis table. Close enough to the town for it to be convenient, but far enough away for it to be peaceful and quiet. The owners couldn't have been more helpful, which all adds up to make this the best campsite we have ever been too.
Lovely setting in a lovely area. Swimming pool was a real bonus with having small children and its very handy having a shop on site. The negatives were the cost of the fire pit was expensive at £16 per night! We camp all the time and have never had to pay so much and also we had to pay £3 to use the family bathroom which when your paying top price for the night it should all be in. We did enjoy the site but the cost of everything put a slight dampener on the holiday.
I stayed for 2 nights with gorgeous weather and loved the dappled sunlight coming through the trees, its very peaceful and an excellent place to relax. The site was full but I never had to queue for toilets or showers, both were always clean and I liked having the squeegee in the showers so I could leave the cubicle the same as I found it. There was plenty of hot water for showering and washing up, the only thing that was a little annoying was the push button shower only lasted about 30 seconds each time, which is a pain when trying to get soap suds out of your hair.
The pool area was a real sun catcher and I enjoyed sitting there while the children played in the small pool. There is a good play area open from 8am to dusk with climbing frame swings, slide, a large trampoline and table tennis table (bring your own bats and balls) the woods are superb with lots of pathways to explore and offering some very private pitches for the braver woodland camper.
The shop is small but adequate for the size of the site and not too over priced, the children enjoyed going in for penny sweets and ice creams. The owners are very friendly and helpful, offering use of EHU extension cable for a fully refundable £20 and ready to light fire pits costing £16 a night.
A fantastic site wish I could find more like this one, luckily its not too far from home so I will be returning… again…. And again!
Just the sort of campsite that all campsites should be modelled on. Really friendly, good clean facilities, small shop and bakery delivery in the morning. Nice secluded pitches, a really peaceful setting. Lovely dappled light coming through the trees- a million miles from the sort of bland, lines of caravans in a field, site that can make camping seem like a mug's game. Alpine Grove is very beautiful and peaceful. We will definitely return
Well maintained facilities including hot showers, toilets, washing up sinks and numerous water taps! Start the day with a delicious breakfast bap and tea / coffee onsite before venturing out to the famous Cheddar Gorge, only five minutes away! Lovely dog walks direct from the site. We have just returned from a 3-night stay at Alpine Grove which, despite the grim weather, we thoroughly enjoyed.
We stayed at this site 3 years ago and, although I gave a rather vague recollection of our precise location when booking this visit, the owner was able to provide us with the same pitch we had before. Basically, the owners can't do enough for you. Even providing us with wooden pallets outside our tents to step onto in order to try and reduce the amount of woodland debris being brought into our tent. As it was very wet during our stay!
The site is very well run and not at all regimental, which is why we returned. We never go to the same campsite twice as there are so many more to discover, but this one was so good and so well located, we couldn't resist!
My only negative is the shower block! Despite it saying on the website that it is 'newly refurbished', it was the same as it was 3 years ago. This is mainly a case of the website not being updated. This was also evident by the fact it says at the bottom of the camping section that ''2010 Tariff (prices at 2009 rates)'. A small point, but when choosing a campsite myself, the toilet/shower facilities are a major consideration.
Even though we visited during the school half term, we never had an issue with queuing for the showers, (mind you, the owner did tell me that they had some cancellations due to the weather), but because there are only 3 per male and 3 per female, I'm sure that in the Summer school holidays, this may be problem.
The shower cubicles are an OK size, but the changing / hanging area is at risk of becoming soaked because the shower heads are not adjustable and are aimed virtually directly at the cubicle door. This was particularly annoying when just wanting to wash hair. Basically, this couldn't be done because you got soaked just leaning across to press the button to turn the shower on (every 60 seconds it seemed!).
That said, everything else was perfect. We enjoyed it, the firepits are great and the kids had a fantastic time. The sun did shine for us eventually so all was good!
My husband and I visited this campsite for a long weekend to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We were looking for a quiet site in nice surroundings and this didn't disappoint (though unfortunately a school group was booked in for the Saturday night, which inevitably created a fair bit of noise).
The owner of this site is incredibly friendly and accommodating. There is a little shop on site too, which is handy, though we didn't use it ourselves. We did, however, order some fresh bread, which was delivered the following day and also rented the use of one of their fire pits, which is a great way to spend the evening. It's the next best thing to an open fire, which is (understandably) not allowed on pretty much any campsite nowadays. Supplied with the fire pit itself is paper & kindling to get it going (set up for you by the site owner), enough wood to keep the fire roaring all evening, & also long forks for cooking sausages or marshmallows!
Turning up on the Thursday night (a day before most people) gave us the pick of the camping pitches. We chose a lovely secluded 'room' tucked into a clearing in the woods, from which we couldn't see another tent! We even had our own picnic table provided.
About the only criticism of the site is the toilet/shower block. There are only 3 loos & showers in each of the ladies and gents. Though the campsite is small, I can imagine when it's busy earlier in the year that this creates quite a queue. You also need to be careful where you hang stuff when using the shower as it directs itself right out into the cubicle & gets everything wet! There was always plenty of hot water though, and the ladies at least was always pretty clean. There are washing up facilities with free hot water, and you can freeze your own blocks in the shop's freezer free of charge also.
We didn't really do much whilst we were there (leaving at dawn on the Sunday as the forecast was awful), but we did take a trip to the coast, which isn't very far at all.
All in all, a lovely campsite that I'm sure we will return to, especially if we can get 'our' pitch again!
We visited this site for 5 nights last week. We used the vouchers in the Sun and were amazed at how nice it was for 13. 50 a night.
The site is a lovely woodland we were in some trees which was lovely and sheltered. The facilities are quite basic but were fine. They were clean until the weekend when lots of families with children arrived. The children were left to use the Toilets alone and thus they were not as clean as they had been all week when it was all older people on the site. Not the owners fault at all.
The owners were very nice and friendly, They live on site so it did feel a little like we were camping in their garden, which I surpose we were ! It is Dog friendly, the owners have 2 dogs that wander around during the day.
Lots of shops close by including supermarkets. Easy to get to beaches, we had a few days out visiting Charmouth beach and other beaches that were dog friendly. We didn't use any of the local pubs but there were several close by.
We are planning to visit again as it is such a lovely site however because we don't have children we will probably keep it to mid week stay as it did get full at the weekend with families.
First impressions of the site were great, not too big, beautifully laid out with trees and grass areas with sun, there were also pitches quite secluded should you wish to be in amongst the trees.
The welcome we had was good and we were shown to our pitch with a quick tour of what was on site on route to the pitch.
We had requested a grassy spot with trees and got just that which was perfect.
The children's play area was ideal especially the trampoline and the pool was exceptionally clean, the children loved it.
The only negative would be the amenity block - there were only 3 ladies showers and toilets and only 2 showers in the mens leaving queues at most times of visiting.
The ladies were quite dirty on our 3rd day of being there with the loos smelling quite badly, they certainly didn't look like they had been cleaned since we had arrived however I did mention this to reception and when returning in the evening they had been cleaned so give the camp staff a big plus they do listen to comments/complaints, thank you.
We also hired a fire pit on 2 nights which costs £15 per night for the pit, wood etc. Its lovely to do with the children but is quite costly in my opinion.
I would definitely return to this site as it is one of the nicest I have been to.

What a beautiful site. The chap who owns/runs the site couldn't have been more helpful on our arrival and though we had booked a tent site he managed to find us a hard standing with hook-up for the van. A total blessing, thank you.
We unfortunately visited on what must have been the wettest week so things were difficult. The site did get quite boggy however there was a laundry which was a complete godsend. The site shop is very limited in its range however you can always get milk, baked beans, bacon, eggs and chocolate. A total must when stuck in the van for hours ha ha ha.
The showers were adequate although when someone else used the showers the water flow became a complete trickle. The toilets were more than adequate. There was a hairdryer available and I believe it was free.
Even though it was raining heavily the kids still used the swimming pool which was fun.
As the weather rained off our trip away we cannot comment on the locality, sorry!
Just a quick email to say thankyou for a lovely week at your park, we really did enjoy our first camping trip away with our little baby as we was worried it would be tough but worked out well.
The park is a joy to camp in
facilities are good and you are very welcoming and the danish pastries are lovely.
I don't know if you did it intentionally but thankyou for not pitching anyone too close to us, it was nice being in the quiet secluded corner especially having the little one at bedtime.
We will definitely be back later in the year and also be recommending you to our family and friends to come visit your park.
This site was everything we'd hoped for from an early season camping weekend. We arrived for two night on the last Saturday of the Easter Holidays to find the site fairly empty so had a choice of pitch.
All the pitches on the grassy areas and (I think) some of the woodland pitches have EHU. The pitches are all flat, sheltered and, despite several days rain prior to our arrival, were not waterlogged.
The facilities were very clean and as it was so quiet we never met anyone else in the shower/toilet block.
The owners were really friendly and helpful. We hired a fire pit both evenings which my 5 year old son loved. He also enjoyed the play area and trampoline and exploring in the woodland areas.
I have only two negatives. On one occasion my son returned from the play area with dog mess down his trousers. We discovered it was all down the slide - probably from one of the children's shoes suggesting there was dog mess in the play area.
Also the showers have a small changing area in each cubicle - don't leave you clothes/towels on the bench or hooks - as soon as you turn the showers on everything gets totally drenched. Use the hooks in the communal area outside if you want your things to be dry! The water temperature and pressure were fantastic though!
Highly recommend this site although I don't think we would return in high season when I imagine it would feel very crowded.
We stayed at Alpine Grove in August, on arrival Richard showed us to our pitch which was in the main meadow, offered us an EHU as ours was too short, £20. 00 deposit which was fully refunded on our departure.
Site was well maintained and supervised, we often saw Richard walking around inspecting the campsite, this was reassuring, lovely playground for the kids including trampolines, swings, forest walks, table tennis and a lovely heated pool, it was quite small but our children loved being in there even in the rain. Showers and toilets were clean,
The showers are push button and only issue was that about 30 seconds you had to repush button to get the water to flow again, but this is a campsite which encourages healthy attitude to environmental issues and so was fine with us. There are only three ladies toilets and three showers, but my OH says there are only two cubicled toilets and showers in the mens for the whole site, this meant that he did shower very late at night to save queuing, but the water was always hot and other than that it was fine.
We used the washing machine once it was three pound and you get the tokens from the small shop run by Richard and his wife, didn't use the tumble dryer so cant comment on this.
There are two large supermarkets in Chard 10 minutes drive away, lyme regis is 20 mins by car, but if you don't mind the drive of 40 minutes I suggest a visit to Sidmouth, it is a lovely seaside town, with the most spectacular beaches, long walks, parking was £1. 00 per hr and about £8. 00 for the whole day, but it was the nicest place along the whole coast, lovely ice cream parlours, a bit like going back in time.
The only negative thing I would say was we had so much rain during the day and nights of our visit that the ground in the main meadow was totally waterlogged, so much so that we left a day early, on packing up the smell from underneath our footprint was of a rotting, smell, it was horrendous, not sure if the whole field was like that or not, but I do know that on the Saturday a family that had arrived refused to go on the main meadow due to its soggy state !
But Richard and his whole family are lovely and nothing is too much trouble, our kids loved Fred the fluff and Murphy their two dogs, we would go back but only for a weekend, our personal point of view is that we would prefer to be closer to the coast next time.
