For added peace of mind, the Van Cook Pro FFD includes a flame failure device, which automatically shuts off the gas supply should the flame go out. It runs from a compact 227g bayonet-style gas cartridge, secured with a simple magnetic connection, meaning there are no bulky gas cylinders or complicated fittings to manage.
A removable windshield helps protect the burner from breezy conditions and doubles as a useful splashback when frying. When it is time to pack away, the windshield folds down neatly into the supplied premium vinyl storage bag. I think the CADAC Dometic Van Cook Pro FFD is a brilliant bit of kit for anyone with a campervan, motorhome or compact outdoor setup. What I really like is how little space it takes up, as it can be neatly stored in a drawer, cupboard or small van kitchen without taking over valuable room.
Despite being compact, it feels really versatile. The ribbed GreenGrill plate is ideal for burgers, bacon, sausages, vegetables and quick barbecue-style meals, while the removable pot stand means you can also use your own pans for simple one-pot cooking. The coffee-pot stand is also a handy touch for anyone who enjoys a proper brew while away.
The flame failure device gives added reassurance, particularly when cooking outside or in changeable weather, and the magnetic gas cartridge connection makes setup quick and straightforward. I also like that it includes a removable windshield, which is useful on breezier days and helps keep cooking more comfortable.
Overall, we think this is a really practical, well-designed cooker for van life.
