Son wants to camp surrounded by trees. Anyone recommend a site within 2 to 3hours of Peterborough with electric hook up in a woodland area. Thanks in advance.

Both with hardly any mobile phone signal to speak of, however, that is as expected in areas near a forest.
The CAMA site does not have any facilities as in flushing toilets, washing facilities and hot shower, therefore, not recommended for tents and campervans without its own facilities.

Sandringham C&CC site is quite wooded, and the area nearest the entrance is a favourite of ours. The pitches are mostly random, and we have been able to set up our caravan any way round we liked in among the trees. Tents are welcome too and I have seen many there.

Typo error, I meant CAMC's Thetford Forest Site.
BTW, the site in Kings Forest is quite open, however, it is surrounded by wooded areas. They do not have any hardstanding pitches, and when I asked why, they said they have sandy soil and does not become waterlogged even after heavy rain. I found that to be true after a very wet stormy night during my stay there.

I bet he won't want to do it twice. Awful when it rains and you would be amazed how much gunge falls onto your tent !!

Nonsense! I first went camping in a tiny tent with my parents at the age of 3. It was an adventure that I still look back on fondly, 60 years later.
I love it, but it's not for everyone (adults as well as kiddie-winks!), there can be an amazing amount of snuffling and scuffling by the wildlife just the other side of the canvas walls, and all sorts of stuff drops out of trees onto the tent, and it often sounds incredibly loud in the general quiet of a country camp site at night!
For a first time I wouldn't be looking for too wild and remote a pitch, the kids (or you!) may only want to stay the one night if truly spooked! You can get the sense/joy of 'the great outdoors' even on a fairly well groomed site. Remember, put them off now and they may never ever want to camp again, but get them to fall in love with it, and they've got a lifetime of enjoyment ahead.
Sadly can't recommend any sites, as years since I tent camped in this country, now a confirmed caravaner.
