Thing is everyones ideal would be different! We all like different things and that is why there are so many different types and sizes of sites. One person might say their ideal is in the countryside and another next to a beach whilst a third might like to be in woodland -
There a few sites I have been to that I can say are perfect for us, I think though that the weather plays a big part. Some sites that in fine weather can be idylic as some found last year can become a mud bath in a really rainey period.

For me it depends on who you are with and what the weather is like!!!!! Also on who else is using the site........
Have had brill holidays on v basic sites and also went to France on more commercial site which was also good...but weather was hot and sunny and this plays a BIG part for us in camping!
i don't know if it's the best, but it is a lovely site.
YELLOW CRAIG at north berwick, just outside edinburgh.
it's a cc site. spotless. you walk over a field next to the site and you are in the sand dunes. walk through the dunes and you are on the most beautiful beach you will every see. miles and miles of sand and rocks with very few people on it. BASS ROCK is just up the coast.
we wenty into edinburgh every day on ther bus. park and rides is about £3 for the day.
north berwick is a couple of miles up the coast. lovely little town.
you are surrounded by some marvelous golf courses. spoilt for choice.

The Plassey is almost perfect - well laid out, excellent shower block, friendly staff, play area, tearoom, restaurant and bar, selection of shops selling allsorts of things, well stocked onsite shop. Views across farmland, golf course onsite, fishing onsite, good dog walk, small plant centre - only a small thing but there's no where for ball games but to be honest a bit of me is quite pleased sshhh don't tell my children that though!!!! ooo and WIFI is also available too. Just returned today from another lovely weekend here.

For us, Little Trevarrack in Carbis bay just out side st Ives in cornwall,
spacious pitches with little hedges in between each one, very clean heated free showers and lots of them, the place is kept spotless, there is also a bus sevice from the car park to st ives very regularly.
The beach at carbis bay is huge and clean, Tesco just down the road, what more could you want??
we've been 3 times now and have even been blessed with good weather!!!!!!
Banff Links is our favorite, right on the beach, clean toilets, etc etc, been there many times, but can get very windy!! like febe said, depends on weather

Its better to regret things you've done than things you have never tried
I agree with Belinda The Plassey in Wrexham is a fantastic site worthy of all the awards and the new swimming pool is superb I have just returned from another delightful weekend there.
Freshwater Beach in Burton Bradstock, Dorset is perfect. We stayed in static 3 times last year overlooking the Beach. Camping field looked lovely so we have booked for 2 weeks and bought a tent for this year. Friendly Club House. Morrisons and Bridport 5 mins drive away. Village of Burton Bradstock a short walk through a cow field. Toilets/Showers immaculate. Outdoor Pool. OH loves the Bass Fishing right on the doorstep and we have them on barbie for supper. Only 7 weeks to go for me.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
