Description
Pitches: 16
Opening Dates this year: 01/04/2021 to 06/09/2021
We are a traditional family run small farm in the peaceful village of Preston central to Canterbury, Whitstable, Dover, Ramsgate and Sandwich. Across the road we have the (Half Moon and Seven Stars pub) which serves good food and occasional live music. Opposite them we have (Preston garden centre and Coppers bistro/cafe), tucked in next to the garden centre is our excellent (Preston Family Butcher) and a stones throw away is (Preston Village Stores), which stocks a very good selection of all your essential supplies.
On our farm we grow cherries and plums and a large variety of vegetables for supply to local shops, restaurants etc. We can supply campers with any fruit or veg that is in season and also eggs from our small gang of chickens subject to supply.
The camping areas are in either of the plum or cherry orchards depending upon the season, giving you a very generous area in which to set up camp, additional small tents are welcome. The orchards are bounded with traditional high hedges of hawthorn and alder, which give protection from the wind and a peaceful ambience.
The toilets and showers are in the end of a converted pigsty block and there is a separate eco friendly urinal block for the boys. To the front of the pigsty block there are three kitchen sinks, one larder fridge, two fridge/freezers and phone charging facilities.
We can also supply fire pits and logs for a small charge, but do not allow fires directly on the grass, if you do use a firepit, then please take great care as tents are flammable.
There are cold water points in both orchards.
There are numerous footpaths criss-crossing our area that lead to surrounding villages through woods and along rivers, including the Wantsum Walk and the Saxon Shore Way. We are situated on a national cycle route and Stodmarsh National Nature Reserve is but a mile away. Canoeing is available at nearby Grove Ferry or perhaps you might like to catch the riverbus down to Richborough castle or all the way to Sandwich (summers only).
Nearby Attractions
Wingham Wildlife Park, Howletts Animal Park and WildWood are all nearby, as are the beaches of Margate and Broadstairs, famous for their golden sands and seafront entertainment. Local to us also there are a couple of vineyards and several cider producers where you can purchase a taste of Kent, with numerous country inns serving excellent local food and ales. For historic interest Richborough, Deal, Walmer and Dover castles are well worth a visit as are the towers at Reculver which were used by Barnes Wallis to perfect his famous bouncing bomb, one of the practice bombs can be seen in the Spitfire Museum at Manston. The Ramsgate tunnels are an amazing feat of engineering over 3 miles long but prebooking is essential or you could just have a relaxing day out in the medieval towns of Sandwich or Canterbury.
