Station Farm is a small family-run Somerset farm on the edge of Shapwick Heath Nature Reserve and situated between the Ham Wall and Weshay Moor Reserves (3,700 acres of reclaimed wetland collectively known as the Avalon Marshes). The nature reserve is within short walking distance from the farm. There is also easy access to cycle routes which cross the reserves (including the Bittern Trail, which goes all the way to Glastonbury, five miles away). The wildlife on the reserve and farm is abundant. Birds regularly seen include cranes, egrets, bittern, swallows, kingfishers, warblers and many birds of prey. Mammals include otters, beavers and deer. The farm is also a haven for a significant bat population with up to 12 of the 17 UK breeding bat species having been identified, several of these species having maternity roosts. The farm has also recently been designated a County Wildlife Site in recognition of its rich plant biodiversity. The camping area is in a large, flat, tree-lined, wildflower meadow with access across a bridge to the nearby wash-up area, recycling station, undercover seating area, drinking water supply, toilets/showers and parking. Each pitch is provided with a barbecue/firepit (with logs and kindling available to buy). For safety there is no parking on pitches, wheelbarrows are provided to move camping gear. There is an orchard and a Forest School area to explore. It is an environmentally friendly, off grid campsite with a quiet, peaceful atmosphere and no night-time light pollution. Station Farm Camping is the perfect place to relax and immerse yourself in nature in beautiful surroundings. Next to the farm there is a river which is great for fishing (permit required), wild swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding. As this is a working farm and near to lakes, ditches and the river, parents are requested to always keep a close eye on children.
