Sheriff Hutton may only be a few miles from York, but it is spacious, quiet and rural. It is the perfect place for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors and the coastal towns of Filey and Bridlington. In spring you may even spot swallows nesting in the amenity block.
The city of York - a few miles away - is best explored on foot. There is a good Park and Ride scheme and the city hosts several walking tours.
The National Railway Museum includes 103 locomotives and 177 other items of rolling stock. See Stephenson's Rocket and the only bullet train outside Japan.
York is also home to the Norwich Union Yorkshire Wheel, giving aerial views of the surrounding area.
Sutton Park is an 18th century house, the family home of Sir Reginald and Lady Sheffield. It is open to the public on some days during the summer.
North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway travels through the heart of the North York Moors National Park. The Yorkshire Air Museum is based on a World War Two Bomber Command station.
