Description
Opening Dates this year: 01/03/2021 to 30/11/2021
Nestled between the ‘Quantock Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty and the ‘Jurrasic Coast, Moorhouse Campsite is a quiet, rural, family run, site.
The area is surrounded by open farm land and far reaching views to the hills, with dog walks easily accessible directly from the farm.
Pitches are carefully spaced out, level and well drained, with beautiful mature trees and hedges dividing each area. These give shade in the warmer months and shelter in the rain. We have a large tent field with electric hook ups and a landscaped BBQ communal area in the centre.
There is a seperate paddock for family tents and those looking for a more private area of the campsite. We allow fires in this field using our fire pits and own locally sourced wood.
For those looking for a bit of extra comfort, two glamping Pods are situated at the top of the tent field with seperate views to the ‘Quantocks. They are equipped to sleep up to 3 people with outdoor furniture and a BBQ. Both are lockable, with storage, lighting, microwave, kettle, small fridge and heating. Sorry no Pets.
The farm is a working arable farm, with ‘Mad Apple Cider‘ being produced in our barns. Children and adults will enjoy watching the free range chickens and peacock on their daily jaunt around the site. There are small petting animals for children and new for 2016, a wooden climbing area in the large tent field.
Kilve beach is a 40 minute scenic walk away or a 5 minute drive. ‘The Chanrty tea rooms, provide a lovely pit stop for a cream tea, before or after searching in the rock pool or finding some fossils.
The ‘Quantock hills can be directly accessed down a private farm lane to the picturesque Holford Village. Wonderful historic walks, following in the footsteps of the poets, ‘Wordsworth and ‘Coleridge and picking up the ‘Coleridge Way.
Our site is popular with mountain bikers as we have some of the best natural trails in the country.
There are two local pubs, both within walking distance. ‘The Plough at Holford is a 12 minute walk which is great for a drink after a walk on the hills or a hearty evening meal. ‘The Hood Arms in Kilve provides a scenic walk with views across the Bristol Channel to Wales. It has a family friendly beer garden and play area for the kids. The local ale is not to be missed and will help on the walk back to the campsite! Both pubs are dog friendly.
Moorhouse is a small independent place to stay, ensconced by the beautiful countryside. One not to be missed!
Nearby Attractions
For day trips, ‘The National Trusts Dunster Castle and Gardens is a 30 minute drive away. The cobbled village with a wide range of local independent shops, galleries and cafes is perfect for a stroll.
The ‘West Somerset Steam Train, can be hopped on at ‘Williton, a 10 minute drive away. Take the children on a trip to ‘Minehead for a play on the beach and scrummy West Country ‘Styles ice cream.
Porlock Weir is a favorite for crabbing and watching the world go by from ‘Millers at the Anchor. Also ‘Watchet with its antique and craft shops and delicious fish and chips to enjoy whist deciding which boat you would own in the harbour!
Bridgwater Bay NNR, Steart, contains one of the biggest intertidal mudflats in the UK and the largest area of salt-marsh in Somerset. Over 200 bird species have been recorded at the reserve.

Directions
Moorhouse Farm is situated approximately 10 miles west of Bridgwater, just off the A39, in a quiet but accessible location.
Please ignore your Sat Nat when you reach The Plough Inn at Holford, if it directs you off the main road down Portway Road - this is a narrow lane not suitable for large vehicles caravans etc. Please ignore and stay on the main road.
Travelling from Bridgwater, when you leave the 30 mile area at Holford there is a brown tourist sign on your left for Moorhouse campsite which is about 300 yards ahead on the right. At the sharp left hand bend turn right signed Lilstock and Stogursey, Moorhouse is the first entrance on your right.
