Opening Dates this year: 01/05/2024 to 31/10/2024 Opening Dates next year: 01/05/2025 to 31/10/2025
Our camping site is situated on a working farm which is in an area of outstanding natural beauty in East Sussex.
We would love to welcome you to our small secluded campsite which has 14 generously spaced pitches, and for the glampers amongst you we have 4 yurts, and a shepherds hut
If you like small quiet camp sites where you can have a campfire and enjoy the sights and sounds of the countryside then we are the site for you. We pride ourselves in offering campers a taste of camping the way it used to be, you wont find any electric hook ups or club house here, nor will you be camping cheek and cowl next to the neighbours tent.
What you will find by the bucket load is the joys of nature, listen to the birds, spot the rabbits or squirrels and at night listen to the owls, frogs and foxes and gaze at the star lit night as you sit by your campfire.
Our small campsite is divided into three sections:
Mill Garden
Our largest camping field is surrounded on all sides by mature trees giving it a secluded feel, a small stream winds its way along three sides. It has 14 large pitches each with its own fire pit. There is a large camp kitchen with 2 hot water sinks for washing up, two compost toilets and two hot showers. There is also wood to buy if you feel like having a camp fire. For the children there is a climbing frame, swings and a large area for ball games and bike riding.
Stream Field
This small camping field is next to Mill Garden and has 4 large pitches with fire pits. It has its own eco compost toilet and shower but you will have to use the camp kitchen at Mill garden to do your washing up. These pitches are ideal for adult groups as it is a quieter field away from the childrens playground area.
Woodland Glade
These 2 pitches are nestled in the wooded area of the campsite in dappled shade, one can be driven to but the other can only be approached on foot over a small stream and up some steps but it is a lovely secluded pitch and well worth the effort. You will be able to use all the facilities at the Mill Garden but will be tucked away little out of sight.
Campfires are allowed but we would ask that you use the fire pits provided
We can take small VW camper vans but no other camper vans, caravans, trailer tents or large commercial vehicles as there is a narrow bridge to cross to get into campsite.
Sorry, we are unable to take dogs at the farm.
Pickham Farm is a 200 acre farm situated deep in the scenic east sussex countryside.
On the farm we have cows, sheep, 2 pet pigs, and 2 donkeys Alice and Rosie. We have a circular farm trail which takes you from the campsite up to the farm and garden then back across the fields passing sheep and pigs and through our newly planted woodland which houses a active badger set and then returns you back to the campsite.
Our Fairy Trail is full of wonder and surprise for children of all ages. Take a walk along the bank of the stream, stop and listen for the fairy bells, search out the fairy doors at fairy hollow and make a wish at the great oak wishing circle but be very careful not to wake the troll who sleeps under the bridge and keep your wits about you if you trespass near the goblins lair. Finally relax in the fairy yurt read a fairy story or write your letter to the fairies they would be so pleased to hear from you.
We currently have a 30 strong herd of suckler cows who graze the pasture land with their calves at foot, during the summer months they are joined by Harry the Bull.
Following on from the cows come the sheep, we have a flock of 130 ewes who have their lambs outside in March and April. It`s always a joy to see the lambs playing and racing each other in the fields during the summer.
The small flock of hens lay beautiful brown eggs which are available buy, so you can enjoy fresh eggs for breakfast!
To complete the picture we supply DIY horse livery so there are usually horses around the farm as well.
Nearby Attractions
The farm is ideally placed between the two historic towns of Rye and Hastings
There is a wealth of wild animals to see, these include rabbits, badgers, field mice and weasels. The bird population is flourishing and range from large barn owls to tiny Jenny wrens and everything inbetween
If you have a passion for wetland birds the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve and the ancient wetlands at Pett Level are only a 10 minute drive away.
Also close-by are the towns of Rye and Hastings.
Rye is a busy market town with a maze of cobbled streets and a interesting mix of small medieval dwellings and larger Georgian houses. For many years it has been a haven for writers and artists alike. It has charming blend of antiques shops and art gallerys but dont forget to try a scrumptious cream tea in one of the tea rooms!
