Ferries
Depart from the gateway to the isles - Oban - and cruise down the Sound of Mull and across the Minch to Castlebay on a Caledonian MacBrayne Ferry.
Alternatively, if you are coming down the Outer Hebrides from the North it is a short 40-minute ferry ride from Eriskay.
Flights
Take an hour flight from Glasgow and land on the iconic Traigh Mhor runway at Barra Airport. A unique airport and a memorable experience.
Nearby Attractions
Castlebay is the port for the Oban ferry and has all the facilities you would expect; shops and supermarket, visitor information, library, sports centre, hotels, cafes, bank, ATM and post office.
There are many activities to do while relaxing on the Isle of Barra.
Many people come for the empty beaches, scenery and wildlife and there is plenty opportunity to see this.
There are also watersports, cycling, Mingulay and St Kilda trips, and other activities.
The island is steeped in history. If you enjoy archeology, then there are plenty of sites to discover. There is also Kisimul Castle and the Heritage Centre.
