Just spent two nights on this surprisingly quiet site.

There was just one other unit there for one of the nights.

The Cafe and farm shop both seemed to be doing a good trade though the dog exercise field did not get a lot of use. (This could have been due to the excessively hot weather).

We had a nice walk up to Captain Cooks monument, which is a very steep climb, and walks along the ridge are easily accessible from site.

You may need chocs on pitching though if it's as quiet as when we visited you should be fine.

The showers are good and the toilets, which are shared with the cafe are clean and well stocked.

The campsite is advertised as a basic site by the owners though their pricing doesn't really match this.

We paid £25 / night without EHU (available for £5 extra).

The CDP is in a really poor state and the sink / grey waste disposal is next to useless.

I have marked the site down due to the state of the CDP and have also brought this to the attention of the owners.

This site is in a lovely location but is let down by several problems. The worst is that the chemical waste emptying point is disgusting. It’s into a tank that is rusted away so that it has gaping holes in it and you can see the sewage sloshing around inside. It’s right next to a lovely little stream that runs down past the children’s play area and then in to the village. It’s at risk of leaking in to this, not very nice. The washing up area is a metal sink with a cold tap right next to the broken sewage tank.

The field is slightly sloping with six electric hookup points. There is one water tap. The toilets are shared with the busy cafe, there are two ladies loos and one gents. There are two showers but only one has a door that locks. Several of the doors stick really badly, and looking back at previous reviews I can see this mentioned in 2019!

Fletchers Farm web site says it’s Camping and Caravanning club but it’s not on the CCC website, and when I spoke to them to check if it was a mistake they said it isn’t a current site of theirs.

It could be a really nice site as it’s in a great location, but it needs some serious work. I feel that £30 per night is way too much for what this site has to offer. I wouldn’t stay here again.

All in all the Fletchers farm site simple and basic with good facility's and also lovely walks.

There is an on site cafe that serves a good selection of food and refreshments, staff were attentive all in all a great site.

The camp site was the cleanest I have been to.

The pitch had electric which was easy to plug into.

The site is very dog friendly and is about 40 to 60 mins from walk from captain cooks monument.

I would highly recommend this site to everyone.

I will be returning soon for a longer duration.

Before I forget the cafe and farm shop are perfect and offer 10% discount if staying.

The 10 minute walk Great Ayton is also perfect.

Philpin Farm Campsite - Yorkshire Dales

Beautiful tent only site set on a family run hill farm in the Yorkshire Dales, nestled between Ingleborough and Whernside. The Three Peaks footpath runs right through the farm adjacent to the campsite with lots of walks direct from the site from easy strolls to climbing the Three Peaks, and five minutes to the pub!

Tent pitches only, no electric hookups. Toilet and shower block and washing up facilities. Sit, eat and socialise in the old barn, with free wifi, charging lockers, freezer. At weekends the Philpin Snack bar is open for cooked breakfasts, hot and cold snacks and drinks, ice creams, chocolates etc, on other days there are vending machines in the barn.  Nice quiet site, lovely field for the boys to play sports.

Lovely farm for the boys to walk around.

Farm shop and cafe on site. Only 10 minute walk into centre of Great Ayton.

Shame the toilet and shower block closed due to COVID.

This was our first time on this site and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We had a very spacious pitch with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.

The owner checked that we were all set up on our arrival but after that never bothered us.

The location is ideal for sightseeing the many places of interest in the area and very close to Great Ayton station for trips to Whitby and North York Moors.

We fully intend to revisit this site in the future

 Stayed during the Yorkshire Monsoon.

Only hardstanding was the spine road, but we were the only visitors so we parked on it.

Site shares facilities (3 wcs, 2 good showers) with a very busy farm restaurant / farm shop.

£20 per night.

Likes. Great view of the Cleveland Hills and Captain Cooks monument. Easy access to Great Ayton, shops etc. And station. Good cafe on site offering filling breakfast. Working farm with lambs, piglets and geese nearby so good for kids to learn a bit about animal rearing. Big field for children to play in and safe as not near busy car traffic. Great location to set off on walks and rides.

Dislikes. Not enough attention to the campers needs. The priorities for this farmer seem to be his cafe and his animals. Once we had paid our money we never saw him again. There was litter on site that remained for the whole week which showed nobody had checked the field.

The toilet facilities are clean but insufficient to cope with heavy use by campers as the customers at the cafe also use the facilities and there's are lots of them during the day. The doors of showers and toilets are ill fitting and stick and jam so you could literally get stuck in the lavatory, especially the disabled loo.

The field is not kept up and the grass is too long with lots of mole hills. There is EHU but no hard standing and in wet weather with long grass the place will get pretty muddy. The lane running past the site is a main thoroughfare for walkers and local dog walkers, cyclists and riders, particularly as the cafe is a magnet for local people.

Fortunately there were not a lot of other campers when we were there even though it was half term. But there would be long queues for the facilities if the big field filled with tent campers. The washing up provision was pretty grotty, a single sink in among nettles, definitely not good enough. And the chemical loo Is an improvised rusty old drum with a rubber hose attached to a tap. At twenty quid a night with the above shortcomings the price was a bit steep. I would not camp here again.
