 What a little gem this site is. Immaculately clean and tidy with a 3 yr old shower block that is always kept spotlessly clean. The pitches are a good size and look out onto beautiful flower beds. The owners are very welcoming and very helpful and ensure that everything is ok for you. There is a separate field where children can play which is great as this avoids any issues of children and footballs etc round the pitches.
The site is situated 5 miles outside Shrewsbury and is in a perfect location for visiting Llangollen, Ludlow etc. And only a mile from the park and ride for Shrewsbury. The owners are a wealth of local knowledge and will supply as much information as possible of any town or attraction that they can.
A brilliant little site and we will be back there next year as so many others do !

What can I say, Pat and Alan were the perfect hosts in a perfect setting. The site is small which isnt a problem and is spotless and godsend, was well presented. The toilet and shower block perfect and clean and free. Yes free, experience of great pleasure in a cold May Shropshire camping.
I would recommend this site to anybody and will no doubt stay there again when I next visit Shropshire.

WHAT A GREAT SITE
Approx 35 level pitches
Well laid out, with new shrubs between pitches to about waist height.
Plenty of room on the pitch.
Toilets, showers, washing-up, disabled facilities all SPOTLESS. There is a freezer - FREE USE and washing machine for a couple of pounds. Local information shed full of leaflets & ideas of places to go, magazines & books. The adjacent field has a mowed perimiter, excellent for dog walking or a quick jog in the morning. The swings are great for little children - a bench in the field would be great.
Near enough to Shrewsbury & other local attractions to make it an excellent base.
Very friendly & thoughtful owners who gave great suggestions of places to visit/where to park & checked everyone was ok during bad storm.
Larger dome tents with additional pods might find the pitches a little tight.
We have a Bear Lake 6 & it was perfect.

I have just got back from a stay at Cartref Campsite near Shrewsbury. I chose this campsite because of the previous reviews, and I'd like to add to the compliments made so far.
Alan and Pat were extremely helpful to us, they make the perfect hosts. They genuinely care about the people that stay there, and want to make sure everyone enjoys their stay. The toilets and showers were very clean indeed, and warm. The showers are free and lovely and warm. There is an area for small children to play in the next field with some small swings and see-saws, a couple of goal posts for ball games and plenty of space for the children to run around without disturbing anyone. There is an area to walk your dog if you have one.
I stayed there with my wife and 2 young children, and will definitely be returning, I have recommended the site to my family and would recommend to anyone else who is looking for a good peaceful, friendly, clean campsite.
It is only a few miles from Shrewsbury but in the peaceful countryside. It's also quite handy for Telford and Ironbridge, and not far from Llangollen and welshpool.

Have just had a fantastic stay at Cartref campsite. The toilet block is the cleanest I have ever used in over 20 years of camping, there was even a heater and fresh flowers in there! The owner Alan was really friendly and was happy to answer any questions that we had.
The site itself was very peaceful and very safe for children to play in the adjacent field on the play equipment. It was also refreshingly inexpensive to stay which is becoming quite rare in the camping world.
Will definitely be going again - ideal for a 'chill out' weekend break.

We chose this site after reading previous reviews and were not disappointed. This is an excellent site with first class facilities. We took the dog with us and the site did not charge any extra for him.
An adjacent field has a play area for children. There are swings, two goal posts and a small pitch. The grass in this area is mowed and there is also a mowed path running around the perimeter of the field for exercising the dog. A few times around the field was more than enough for our old border collie. There is also a bin provided for dog waste.
The surrounding area is really lovely and Shrewsbury itself is beautiful, with lots of interesting places to visit. There are lots of very nice shops if you like shopping. We also went to Telford which again was packed with interest and is a designated World Heritage Site.
We will be going back to this part of the country as there is so much to see. The walk along the river at Shrewsbury is a must. We will also stay at this camp site again too as it is such a lovely place to relax in following a busy day exploring the area.

This was our first outing with newly acquired trailer tent. We chose it on the basis of the previous reviews on this site and we weren't disappointed. The toilet / shower block is superb; other facilities also excellent with washing up cubicle, excellent information room amongst others. We mostly saw Alan for the 2 nights we were there and he could not have been more helpful. Very highly recommended.

Visited for 2nd time. You could circumnavigate the globe and still not find a better site. Pat and Alan are really nice people, the site is excellent, very clean and very quiet. If there is too much noise Pat's there in a shot to repectfully remind you to be quiet.
The toilets are something else, so clean, there's even plants on the window ledges. We bought a cactus (have I just started a trend?).

Just came back from Cartref today. What a lovely site. Small but well kept with attractive flower beds in the middle. Very good toilets and hot showers (free). No playground on site but children can run wild in the adjacent field. Pat and Alan were so helpful and even brought us an Easter Egg. The ground at the bottom of the site is still very wet so Alan used the tractor to get us on and off the pitch. He asked us if we would like to move but we were happy were we were so stayed put. The site is about a five min drive from the Shrewsbury Park and Ride - the only way to visit Shrewsbury, trust me! We drove to Welshpool which is a nice little market town, Ironbridge and Bridgnorth. There is no shop on site and the nearest pub is about 30min walk away. If you like peace and quiet you'll love Cartref.

Excellent small site about 5 miles west on the Shrewsbury to Welshpool main road. Close to A5, A49 and M54 for day trips. Local Co-op is 5 minute drive, but no pubs within walking distance.
The site owners made us very welcome and maintain the site to a high standard. Site has a new shower and toilet building which has excellent facilities, plenty of hot water and cubicles.
Site also has a large playing field with swings and small football goals, and can be used for exercising dogs.
Highly recommended.

The problem with giving this site a good review is that it may be full in the future when I want to visit again, but I need to be honest……. We arrived to a very warm welcome from Pat and Alan who own the site, the pitch sizes are reasonable with most being level.
A sky signal can be achieved on 90-95% of the pitches with just a few trees that may cause problems for some people. The site is generally free from any road noise due to its location and any noise you do hear is from birds and cows.
The toilet block is kept in an immaculate condition as are the site grounds and planted area, the toilets are normally cleaned in the afternoon so if you fancy a lie in there is no rushing to the toilet block at 9.30am before closing!
The current per night charges are a very reasonable £9 per night, plus £2 electricity, plus 50p per child over 5 years. On several occasions the kids went for a walk with Pat and her dogs around the large field/play area adjacent to the camp. The large field is great for ball games away from caravans and also has to goals setup “this end” of the field. It is large enough also for kite flying and other sports however parents need to ensure the wind is blowing the correct way as although the field is large it does have one power line running along the road edge of the field.
Recently bushes have been planted to separate most pitches, these are starting to develop and provide a nice layout to the site. So is their anything wrong with the site? Well the only two small items I can think of, firstly the entrance to the site is a little tight but you do only use this twice with the caravan attached and secondly is that the children’s play equipment is a little dated and “domestic”.
A new swing and small slide set in bark chippings would be fantastic for the kids to play on. However the many good points far outweigh these 2 little niggles. We will defiantly be visiting the site again.

This is a fabulous little campsite set in the beautiful countryside near Shrewsbury. The owners were very welcoming and friendly, shower block and toilets spotless, good size pitches and good security. Pat & Alan have planted out borders between and in front of the pitches which made it feel like camping in their back garden!
A short walk (1.25 miles) along very pretty rural roads to a local garage selling basic groceries, papers etc. Information hut alongside toilet block stuffed full of leaflets and maps of local attractions, books and magazines to borrow etc. Nicest site we've ever been to.

What a great camping and caravan site. The site is very clean and tidy. Access is good all round the site including into and out of the site. The toilets and showers are without a doubt immaculate. One of the best ever.
The owners are willing and helpful. The information hut next to the shower block is a minefield of things to do, places to go, places to eat, etc etc
We were so impressed we are going back for sept / oct it really is worth the visit.
Dont go and you miss out !

We have just got home from spending 15 nights at Cartref Caravan Site, during the worst 2 weeks summer weather we have ever seen. We arrived to a warm welcome from Pat and Alan, who helped us to settle on to our pitch. The site facilities were excellent, immaculately clean and very well planned out. During the bad weather, the toilet/shower block was always spotless and fresh flowers were always displayed in the ladies toilets. The washing-up areas were well thought out and user friendly.
On many occasions we experienced Pat and Alan's willingness to help ourselves, and other campers, cope with the rainy, muddy conditions, to the extent of taking our Son's wellies into their home to dry! We had a wonderful, peaceful, restful holiday (despite the floods) in this county haven. We plan to return before the end of the season and are already planning our summer holiday next year (especially as Alan has promised that the weather will be better!)
Thanks Pat and Alan, you are true stars!
