 As a last minute decision we (me and my partner) decided to visit Serenity after doing a general search for sites near Whitby. We were very pleased with our choice. The site was quiet although choosing a pitch was a little hard due to the field being very bumpy but just got close to the bushes. The owners are very friendly and the toilet block is the cleanest I have ever seen on a camp site. Although we came to visit Whitby which is 8 miles away from the site we were pleased that there are a couple of pubs within a very short walking distance from the site which was handy for a quiet night near the camp. One pub is directly opposite the entrance to the site!
We will definitely be visiting again, had a great time.

This has to be one of the best sites my daughter and I have visited. Lovely setting and truly serene as the name implies! The showers, toilets and washing up facilities are clean and light. Cost's 20p for Shower + Hairdryer, 50p for the Tumble Dryer and hot water for the dishes is 10p. This is goog value as the nightly charges with hook-up are also very reasonable. The owners are very friendly and make you welcome.
The surrounding area is beautiful, the moores are spectacular when the heather is in bloom. Whitby, Staithes and Runswick Bay are excellent in their own right and we had a very peaceful and enjoyable few nights. Would recommend Serenity to anyone.

Just spent a really windy August Bank Holiday Weekend at Serenity! The camp site was great, not totally child free but really quiet. Just one draw back...the the trek to the loos from the bottom field, is there no way that a loo could be added to the wash station half way??
Willl defo be going again.

We went to this camp site, thought it would be small as on here it says 20 pitches, but there was another field, also caravans. The site (first field) was a little lumpy here and there, you have to get as close to the edge as you can. There are some electricity points for Tents but you must ring and order.
We found the owners very friendly and helpful,..the showers are great and you get plenty of time, though you have to pay 10p to wash your dishes up, and the Dryer is 50p,(dont put a lot in) There are two local pubs, only 200yds away, go out of site turn left, then 1st right up the hill to the best pub, we met some really nice people here, we will definatley go back

Lovely site, lovely owners, lovely part of the country! Site relatively flat with loads of space between pitches. Tents and caravans in different fields. Toilet blocks smallish (3 loos, 2 showers with a wash cubicle in ladies too) but very very clean with loo paper! 20p per shower. Was surprised to have to pay 10p for hot water in washing up room and only 1 sink but again, very clean.
Owners very friendly and helpful. One pub over the road with good restaurant selling basic "pub food" but Brown Cow further down High Street which looks absolutely grotty from the outside is warm and friendly and not at all grotty inside. 3 real ales too!
Site description says "predominately adults". Not too sure what this means as there were one or two children about but wasn't large families with loads of children. Brilliant fish & chip shop few yards away, not open every day, and huge queues when it is because its so good! One very small general store and a butcher. So, all in all, I would definitely recommend this site and would go there again.

The site is in a lovely rural situation with a pub very close by that does great food. The village of Hinderwell is lovely and for once the site does not stretch the truth about the distance to places - Runswich Bay was just a short walk away. Whilst this is a lovely place I doubt we will visit again: We booked two campervans in for one night with electric two months in advance and paid a deposit, on arrival we were told without apology that they only had electric for one as they had to give priority to people wanting to come in for a week. It would have been nice if we had been informed when booking that they could and would do this. Alternatively they could have asked us if it was a problem and would we help them out - we would have been happy to relinquish the electric supply if the situation had been explained and we had been asked not told. The only reason I did not make an issue out of this is that I did not wish to spoil the night we were there. But there are other reasons for not revisiting the site: The toilet facilities are clean and new but a long way off luxury and inadequate for the size of site. You have to pay 10p for one sink of water to wash up! Its not the 10p but the inconvenience of having to have a pocket full of them. People were washing up and then cleaning down with cold water, which is not ideal. After breakfast the following moring we went to wash up armed with our only 10p to find that it did not work - apparantly the boiler could not cope with the amount of hot water required for the site! One visitor had not been able to shower due to lack of hot water. We took our dirty pots and pans home and will in future look for another site in the area as it really is very nice round there.

Stayed here for a few nights with 2 children. The owners are very clear that you can't have noisy children here. There was only one other tent in the field! - 2 teachers with 2 Dobermann dogs. We all got on! (It was probably empty because the Foot and Mouth thing was in full swing at the time). There were some horses in the next field which was something for the kids to go and look at while we sorted things out. The toilets were a bit basic but very clean. You were told where you had to pitch your tent and that you could not have a campfire + you had to use bricks under your BBQ. There was a child-friendly pub within walking distance that did food (turn LEFT out of campsite then RIGHT down lane and it's further down on the RIGHT.) You should visit Whitby, Staithes & Robin Hood Bay while you are there.

Found this lovely site in Hinderwell after a disasterous start on another site in whitby. Freak gales made us move from previous site as we have a folding camper and there was no shelter or hedging to hide behind, and we ended up here at serenity.
What a lovely site Pat & Nigel were the best hosts, always available to your needs and the site is exactly what you need for a relaxing time. Toilets and showers very clean, 20p for a shower but always hot anytime of day or night. Soft toilet roll supplied, only downfall was toilet block quite a walk from pitch but nigel and pat are trying to put in a new toilet/shower block for 2005 planning permission awaited. Also new water taps and drainage being done for 2005, and are going to get some more lighting installed upon the site.
We would recommend this site to anyone who wants a get away from it all holiday with lovely views of the countryside, peaceful and very sheltered.Great pub to eat at is the brown cow just down the road from this lovely site, food is great,plenty of it and at a great price too.The staff at the pub are brilliant very helpful and friendly.

Excuse my punchy comments - I'm not big on narrative so what follows is just the facts...
This site is fantastic. A genuinely friendly welcome on arrival. Extremely spacious pitches. Main field nicely sheltered by high hedges. Glorious views across moors/farmland. Very peaceful and relaxing - everyone on the site was respectful of others - the fact that this site is adults only doesn't mean its full of drunken parties. Great toilet/shower block painted in a lively sky blue. Very clean. Showers 20p (make sure its off before you put your coin in - i got wet shorts). Chemical disposal point. Washroom. All central to rest of site. They keep doves - which goes well with the whole serenity thing. Good footpaths at bottom of field - don't know where they went (we did about 30 minutes). Plenty of info at reception - including a big map of the area. Hinderwell village is right outside the site with a chemist, grocer, post office, butcher, pubs, fish and chips etc. Beautiful Runswick Bay just a mile or so away. We'll definitely go back.

As a last minute decision we decided to go camping the May bank holiday weekend and of course everywhere was pretty much booked out. I phoned Serenity on Saturday Lunchtine who said they would check and I was to call back in half an hour. I did and there was space available.
Upon arrival the guys were very friendly, and also the people on the campsite were friendly too. Toilets & showers were very clean and the site was fairly peaceful. It looked as if one group were causing a bit of hassle and instantly the owners (or staff) arrived to deal with it.
I would definitely go again, but if you are expecting an adult only site don't. Children are there but without the facilities of others so it is generally peaceful.

Called into this site for a look around as I was passing, the owner greeted me and was as nice a man as you could wish to meet. He explained that the site was a quiet site and mainly aimed at the adult only market offering, as the name explains, serenity. With his blessing I had a look around, the toilet block was clean as were the showers and the location is peaceful and beautiful although the pitch offered was a fair way from the toilets, I felt that as I had children it was a happy medium.
All in all this is a great place to stop not too expensive and quiet

Situated in sheltered fields behind the village of Hinderwell. A rural and very pleasant site. There is ample space for caravan and tents on flat grassy areas. There are good views across the rolling hills to the south and west. Access is off the main road through Hinderwell. Well placed for coastal walks along the Cleveland Way between Staithes and Runswick Bay and convenient access to Whitby some 9 miles away. There are numerous pubs nearby serving food and shops in the village of Hinderwell a few minutes away.
The site is well run and the staff are helpful and friendly. Although the toilet block is near for most, access can be up to 100 yds away depending upon pitch. The toilet block is clean and well maintained with three toilets and two -metered hot water -showers in the male and the female block. There is a small washing up room again with metered hot water.
