My partner and I stayed at this site for one night passing through and was greeted by the lady owner who was very pleasant, a nice secluded site with a great private male and female toilet area with basin and shower and was clean, the electric is a £1 meter for the shower but we didn't put any money in as was loads of credit still in it, washing up is done in a shed building with ample water and sink, our only gripe was the ground wasn't very level and a bit bumpy and also some dog fouling was noticed left by dog owners but in general a good peaceful site.

Quite a small campsite but found a nice quiet corner in the 'front' field. I like campsites that encourage campfires so chose to stay here. Didn't buy any wood but you can do near the owner's house. I think it is about £2.50 for a bag of wood.

In general, I had a great time - it was my daughter's 1st birthday and she really enjoyed herself. We could let her roam around our tent without being worried and watched her walk off to meet the owner's dog 'Oddy'. Fed the family of donkeys with her too. There are also 2 tree swings so of course, I had a go!

The showers are £1.00 and last just over 7 mins. There is basically 2 bathrooms - male and female and both have a toilet, sink and shower.

10 minutes from Battle - has a co-op supermarket and 20 mins from Hastings. I had a good time and if I was to go to the Hastings area again, I would def stay here again!

We have just returned from a perfect weekend spent at this beautiful site with our friends.

On our arrival we were met by Pat who made us very welcome, and showed us to our pitches. The site is only small and Pat explained that she never over books it because there is only one shower/toilet per gender, these are kept spotless and we never had to queue.

The children spent their time playing on the swings in the trees, feeding the donkeys, and fishing, although we never caught anything!

We booked our next stay before we left.

Upper Morgay Wood is a beautiful site owned and run by a lovely couple, Pat and Bill who took us in unexpectedly at 9pm on a bank holiday friday night.

A small and friendly site with beautiful surroundings, donkeys, chickens, geese, two farm dogs and a cat. Kids love it.

Free range eggs are available to buy on the site, as are bags of logs to burn in the camp bonfires which come complete with grills to enable cooking - barbecue food never tasted so good.

There are two showers / toilets on the site - one male and one female - the showers cost £1 and the hot water lasts for approx 10-15 mins. There is a separate shed with sink and hot water to enable washing up.

Just past the shower / toilets is a steep'ish field where the three donkeys are kept, with a walk up to the pond at the top - where we even managed to catch a couple of fish on our travel rod, and stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

For a tent or caravan plus two people costs £10 per night - additional people are charged at £2 extra pn - under tens are free - electric hook-up £2 pn - if our memory serves us right.

Bodiam Castle is worth a visit, take a bag of bread to feed the large fish and ducks, as is Tenterden. Local pubs are the Castle Inn in Bodiam and The Queens Head in Sedlescombe - both serve food. The Queens Head has a lovely garden and is dog friendly - the Castle Inn also accepts dogs in the bar area (we went there on a wet day!).

Sainsburys is just down the A21 towards Hastings (about 5 miles away) and the local store in Sedlescombe was reasonably priced for a small store (open until 7.30pm).

We took our five year old daughter and our young dog with us - they both had a great holiday.

All in all we had a lovely week at this site and would recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet time away from it all.

Me and my young family have just spent our second week at this site and again we loved it

This site is very small and quite, no play area or entertainment just a couple of fields a nice shower that is lovely and hot a toilet block and washing up shed with large sink and very hot water the owners are very friendly and always happy to help

The only entertainment at this site is all the lovley and friendly animals (donkeys, chickens, geese and dogs, all except the donkeys wonder freely around the camping area the donkeys are in the next field where you are free to go and they are always at the gate ready to see you

My children loved feeding the donkeys carrots and apple for breakfast every morning and the geese and chickens joined them for their toast and cereal

They have lovely fire pits for cooking and keeping warm round on colder evenings and sell the logs at £2.For a large bag

This site is perfect for younger familys who don't need too much to keep little ones entertained our two are only 3years old so we hope to have a few more years visiting upper morgay wood before having to find somewhere with more to do

A very lovely place to stay with lovely country walks and views and close enough to Hastings for lots to do

Just had a most wonderful holiday at Upper Morgay Woods Campsite. This is a basic site. The owners make no bones about this. You get to pick a pitch on one of the two fields, shown the toilet block and that is about it. Electric hook if needed. However, there are plenty of friendly animals from the farm dogs to the donkeys and hens. There are also enough fire pits for each pitch. To be able to have a campfire is a rare thing these days and you can buy sacks of wood for £2. (This is enough for one fire.)

The toilet block has two rooms, male and female. These contain toilet, shower and sink. The showers run on a £1 meter enough for 15 mins of hot water. They were cleaned out each afternoon and then it was left to the campers to self help! Could do with an extra couple of toilets!

The site is on a B road and if traffic noise worries you then pack some ear plugs available from halfords. There is a big camping shop about 5 miles up the A21 towards London if you have forotten anything. Supermarket towards Hastings on the main road.

To sum up this is a gem of a site. The Tilley family's no.1.

My son, partner and I have just spent the weekend at Upper Morgay Wood. We got there early on the Saturday morning and left just before lunch on Sunday but we would have loved to stay for longer!

Really like the fact the site was relaxed and friendly. When we turned up the lady was very nice and let us do our own thing really.

My son was not overly impressed by the chickens and geese that peck around your feet but got over this very soon. There is also a great (if not a bit strange) dog and 2 donkeys there.

If you go take a kite and fly it in the field next to the toilets/showers - great kite flying there!

Over all we loved it there and will definitely be going again.

Just got back from 3 nights at this site in a tent with 2 adults, 2 kids and a dog in an electric pitch. Really loved the fact that this is a basic, more traditional camping campsite ie no luxuries but enough of the necessities to manage. Its USP is defnitely it's size and the camp fires. EVERYBODY had a camp fire each night and just sat around them chatting and generally chilling.(bar the chavs that turned up on night 2 and kept everyone up until gone 1 and then up at 6.30!) It was probably one of the most relaxing sites Ive been to but the toilets were by NO means luxurious. They look like they once were, but as they are basically in a wooden shed the floor rotten and filthy - noone staying ever cleaned it up after themselves so and the mop to clean up was outside all day and night and filthy. I didint see it cleaned once by either a camper or the owners. However on the one time in 3 days that I did force myself to brave the shower the water was very nice and the shower really good. Shame I felt filthy the second I stepped out of it! I reckon though that if the owners cleaned it more and put a mop inside the room for each one then people would look after it better.

The kids loved the animals but the donkeys did not like our dog and one of them went for him. Guess though he shouldnt have been in there!

In short we are looking at going back again soon so that to me says it all.

We visited this site in July 2009 and loved it! We were 4 adults and two children. No really flat ground but managed to get only a slight slope. Busy B road runs along bottom which is a bit noisy but the trees hide it. Facilities were basic but clean - 2 toilets/showers, washing up shed with hot water. Real fires in provided braziers were great - there were even BBQ grids to go on top. Bags of wood only £2, and you can collect your own firewood from the woods. The children loved the woods, the tree swings, the fields, donkeys, geese, chickens and dogs. The owner was very friendly and helpful - supplied a pallet and trestles when we found we had forgotten our table. Good free-range eggs 90p. This small site is Caravan and Camping Club certificated so they should only allow 5 caravans plus 5 tents, but it was not full even though it was the start of the summer holidays. Nearest shop about a mile away, also pub. Recommended if you want a quiet and beautiful site.

We have just returned from our first ever camping trip, we loved the site, it was quite and safe for the kids, (9 months and 4 years), their was a rope and tire swing that my 4yr old loved. The toilets were basic,, 1 mens 1 ladies in the same block and 2 showers, they were nice and clean, there was a shed with hot water for washing up in. The owners are friendly and inviting, they sell eggs and logs for camp fires, they have 2 fields we stayed in the one next to the road but it didn't bother us at all, and there was no way of the kids escapeing lol.

We drove on to Hastings a couple of time that only took us 15 mins. There are 2 donkeys, geese and chickens. It was a lovely site we will definitely be going back. The only fault it did have is that its on a slight slope. It cost us £10 per night with out electric excellent value for money
