This was our 2nd go at camping. We are a family of 4, children are 5&7. Site is a large field with electric hook-ups along one side and a pylon in the middle.
We picked site for its location to the adventure park next door. For us this was perfect for a short stay as facilities were quite basic. Toilets were cleaned regularly but found the indoor hut for washing and cleaning up dirty. Site was friendly enough and we happened to pick 2 nights in a quiet week which was lucky!
I would warn potential visitors that there is a speed way very nearby so had to listen to that from 7-10pm. Apparently this occurs on a Wednesday and Saturday. Our only grumble is that they cut the grass and leave it. Consequently we had a tent full of grass and the underneath of our ground sheet was caked so have had to leave tent out at home to dry and clean. Makes the facilities look scruffy too with grass everywhere.
Kids loved the Adventure Park, we were there all day and we got a 2 for 1 voucher to get in. Nice to be able to walk there rather than drive. You can also buy your milk at reception but there's a limited supply as owners have to go and buy it in.
We had a lovely stay, as I said before, basic, but you get what you pay for. Also, hot showers work on an honesty box basis, 30p for 5mins which is fine, we paid our £1. 20. Did however observe one or two people take showers and not pay. Shame on them.

Really great campsite. Lots of space. By a lovely lake. The toilets were always clean. The staff were really friendly.
The cost of everything was very reasonable. They are not money grabbing in the slightest.
The adventure park next door is amazing. Loads of stuff to do and only £8 an adult. Once in many of the attractions are free and the food is cheap but good. Struck gold picking this place.
Will definitely be returning soon.

Have just spent a lovely weekend at this site and can highly recommend it. Yes it is a basic site with no frills but for the pitching fees well worth it.
The fact that you can have open fires is an added bonus. The only niggle would be that there are no water taps around the site, so to get water for coffee etc you have to go up to the main block.
The owners and staff are very friendly and for the fishermen out there, the carp bite with just bread for bait. We will be going back hopefully this year

I drive past Knockhatch virtually every day en route to work. I was delighted when I filtered campsite. Co. Uk to find this gem allows camp fires and dogs. I love the Knockhatch adventure playground too and easy access to this gave me enough sway for my six year old daughter to give camping another try. Unfortunately as a victim of my own hapless, accident prone and inane disposition I was to disappoint myself. This outcome however was no reflection on the family that run the site and the kind and supportive approach they took.
On arrival at the site we were guided to a very good spot with a hook up. We were in a small camper van and also had a new pop up tent which popped up easily. The amenities are clean and thoughtful. Showers, loos and washing up facilities are excellent. These people care.
Our first mishap of many occurred when my Terrier ran free. Into the adjacent sheep field where I was told that I was lucky he hadn't been shot by the farmer.
Next my 8 year old son succeeded in burning my daughters leg with a red hot Marshmallow skewer. Richard was there in a flash with his first aid experience to assist.
The following morning as we steered the camper van excitedly to the adventure park just down the track the kids shrieked in horror as the 'still connected' hook-up cable snapped off the socket. Again Richard was there to help.
On our arrival back from Knockhatch our tethered dog was missing. Richard appeared again looking slightly jaded, with dog. Apparently, he had barked all afternoon and upset the other campers so was bring cared for by the family.
Later that evening I absent mindedly let my dog free which led to a ferocious altercation with two mastiffs, and thier dogs.
When we left I felt that we couldn't have found a better gem of a campsite. Yes we caused more than our share of maintenance. But the family took it in thier stride. These guys really have a passion to help people have a good experience.
PS: as we set off down the A22 my tailgate opened and spewed the entire contents of our camp gear all over the dual carriage way. A major incident but the road is now reopened.

We, a group of several families comprising 11 adults and 7 children, camped at Knockhatch for two nights over the jubilee weekend. The shop at the entrance sells drinks, firewood, milk and a few other bits.
They have developed their facilities and have showers, separate male and female toilets (3 of each) with sinks with hot water), and a washing up area (again with hot water). There is a central water tap and many rubbish points. There is a pylon in the middle of the field - not the prettiest but has no impact on the fun.
Fires and bbqs are actively encouraged. The best bit about the campsite, if I'm totally honest, is the proximity to to the knockhatch adventure park.
It's easily walkable and camping gives you half price entry. Price wise, very good - £14 for two people, a tent and a car, £2 extra pppn. Staff were friend;y too. We are going back soon and would highly recommend!

We (Family of four) stayed here for 2 nights in September to try out new tent, and were pretty happy with the whole set-up, this is BASICS camping in terms of facilities two showers which were 'usable' but nothing flashy at all, and a small toilet. This was out of high season so the facilities coped fine.
All camps/caravans were around the edge of a large field with huge space for kids to play in centre, there were football goals, badminton nets/swingball already set-up and you can borrow raquets from booth provided you return them after each use. Kids loved it here as they made new friends and could 'wander' whilst staying in clear sight. You get to choose where to pitch which is nice, only about 18 units there in total, plenty of space in between each.
Open fires permitted and wood sold on site so a proper camping feel to the place, no noisy neighbours, all was quiet by 11:30, owners very polite and generally let you get on with it.
Local town 5 minutes drive away, has large tescos for supplies, the entrance booth/hut does sell a few basic/handy (milk etc)bits but no major stocks of product.
Definitely will stay again.

Hi all we stayed at knockhatch for the august bank hols and fount the folks who run it very pleasant indeed they were very helpful with any questions that we had. As this was their first season opening as a campsite they were not expecting to have as many units arrive as were there but accomodated everyones needs as and when required to do so the shower and toilet blocks altough quite old worked very well and there hardly seemed to be a queue for either was quite close to hailsham and other surrounding areas so shopping at tesco was convenient. Also plenty of takeaways and a petrol station were also at hand lots to do for every body as there are plenty of additional activities on the site though these were at a pricey premium e. G. Quad bike riding (run by amazon not the campsite owners) was 45 pounds for 45 mins needless to say we didn't enquire about the paintball or dirt buggies all in all a pleasant site not bogged down with too many rules though common sence should prevail in those that stay there we all had a lovely weekend there and hope to stay there again someday.

Visited this campsite 3 times this season, owners are very friendly and welcoming. Toilets are standard but clean and working, showers are clean too.
Had plenty of good laughs here and looking forward to going back next season! The site could do with a play area for children with a climbing frame or something similar, but there are communal apparatus such as football goal, badminton/tennis net, and swing ball.
Best part of our visit was the campfire! So nice sitting together roasting marshmallows, Frankfurters and such. Oh and jacket potatoes cooked in the campfire are the best by far!
The shops are 5 mins away from the site consisting of a main supermarket and a nice village with local shops and pubs, take away's, restaurants. Petrol station is closer than the village ( which is very handy ) and Eastbourne is about 15 mins away.
Will definitely be coming back to knockhatch soon! The kids and I love the adventure park, lots for small children and and teens and the animals are amazing :0)

A lovely campsite for sure - I love the fact that all the tents are pitched around the edge of a good sized field leaving loads of room for children to play in the middle with volleyball net and football goal provided. Yes there are only 2 showers but then there are not that many campers in the field and I have stayed at plenty of campsites with more showers but actually the ratio of showers to people is a lot smaller! I have to say though the temperature of my shower fluctuated somewhat from freezing to scalding but my partner went much later and said it was fine. I thought the price of the pitch was slightly expensive in light of the showers but maybe the space and bogof tickets to the adventure park make up for that. We had a lovely day at the next door knockhatch adventure park both my 4 year old and 9 year old enjoyed themselves as much as each other. The owners are lovely and very helpful We will be back!

We spent a week at Knockhatch with another family who were in a tent next to our trailer tent. We had one electricity hook up so pitched to one side and very close together so as not to take up more than one pitch. The electricity hook ups had splitters and ours popped when we boiled the kettle if we were running anything else.
The first evening was very noisy, a packed site with many large groups and the speedway close by going on until 10. 30 with amplified music. We were assured by the owners this was once a month only or we would have moved - unfortunately this happened twice during our stay.
The facilities were tired and whilst the actual toilets and showers were cleaned regularly, the walls and ceiling etc were full of bits, spiders and webs. There were 3 ladies toilets and one gents with two urinals when we arrived but the owners secured the use of other toilets just outside the site due to so many users whilst we were there. The showers for the whole site were just two in number. These were electric and didn't work if someone washed up or flushed a loo.
The owners are lovely and if they can address the facilities the site will be greatly improved.
On our last two nights there were two big groups pitched very close to ours (the camper van parked next to the tent with less than two feet between the two). Both these groups were loud late into the night with one running amazing lights illuminating all of our tents. They also played house music until we woke the owners at midnight and asked them to do something about it. They then switched off the light but the music and noise continued.
Our children got bored very quickly as this is just a field with nothing to do and when they booked so many tents on there was no room to play.
The area is great for families camping as there is much to see and do - this is the reason we stayed!
