We stayed at this site for ten nights. We chose it because of the reviews on here and were not disappointed, it was everything everyone said it was.
The toilets and shower area were indeed basic but ok my only comment would be that the shower building would benefit from having a proper door fitted
We would certainly stay there again if we were in that area. We enjoyed feeding the chickens and geese and watching the goats playing in their pen.
The site was peaceful even on friday night and saturday when quite a few tents arrived for the weekend. We only visited the pub once but were quite impressed with both the quality and cost of the food menu and the helpfulness of the staff.

A pleasant little site. Basic but very adequate toilet block (didn't use showers as only stayed for one night) Plenty of hot water at washing up sinks.
When we went it was mostly caravans down each side of the field and very few tents (early in season I guess) this left lots of space in the middle for children to play. Younger child very taken with the small animals and chickens.
Easy walk to local shop was handy and a 15 minute walk along road takes you to the lovely (and free) nature reserve of Woods Mill.
Four of us in VW van was £9 so really good value,

We had a lovely couple of days here - despite the rain! In fact, even tough it had been raining heavily for several hour on our arrival, the chalk soil dried out so quickly we could walk around bare foot only a hour after it stopped
This is a basic facility - electric sites round the edge of a field, and tent camping haphazardly in the centre, giving plenty of space for all sizes of tent.
We had a large family tent, with four kids in tow, and the site was mostly used by families - plenty of kids to play with and good line of sight across the whole site. There is a small playground just next door, and an easy walk to the post office / shop in Smale Dole.
The site is a working farm, with animals such as chickens, geese, goats etc on the field. The kids thought this was even better than any play equipment, although the cock crowing at 6am wasn't the adults favourite!
I've used better toilets/showers, but then again, I've seen worse! They were regularly cleaned, porcelain toilets, and with the site almost full, we never had to wait. There was also washing up sinks with hot & cold water, which was useful.
The owners were friendly and approachable the site well kept and by far the best value for money in Sussex and beyond. There are amazing views of the South Downs, and easy access to the whole of the Sussex coast. Smale Dole has a bus stop just a few hundred metres from the campsite.
We will definitely be returning next summer, and hopefully for many more years. Very pleased with this site.

The facilities are a little basic and the shower block could do with being bigger with more showers. Overall we loved it because the field gives some lovely views of the South Downs and it is not too far to the coast.
The pitches around the hedge are very nice and sheltered. This is a working farm, so there are some animals to see on site. There are a mixture of tents, caravans and motor homes with people of different nationalities. We found it very friendly and the people who owned it were very pleasant with everyone.
We will be going again very soon as we liked it that much. The prices are reasonable which is a good point about this site.
If you want a lovely site and can accept the basic amenities, then this is a great place to stay.

Stayed here for 7 nights over the half term in June. Arrived on the Sunday of a bank holiday weekend to find the site really full but still with plenty of room to pitch our large tent - great sized pitches, with good drainage.
The site facilities were basic (portable cabin toilets and only one shower for women & one for men) but for £10 a night, what do you expect?! We loved the site, the animals were a good distraction for the younger kids and the older ones found a park nearby and had plenty of room to run around in the camping field.
Small shop nearby which was well-stocked and quite reasonable. Also nice pub in the village.
Good base for touring round Brighton, the Witterings etc and think we'll def go back!

My partner and I have just returned from our first visit to this campsite. We normally like to go to the west country but decided to try somewhere a little closer to home. The weather for the weekend was lovely and this always helps. Previous reviewers have mentioned the layout, i.E. Just a field with caravans down either side and tents and campervans in the middle.
The area is not particularly big so if you like a bit of privacy then you may be a bit disappointed. Best to pitch at the bottom of the field next to the hedge.
The facilities are very basic and this is reflected in the prices which are very reasonable. The owners, as previously described, are very friendly and were keen to make our stay as pleasant as possible.
Children will love the animals that are on view, chickens, ducks, goats and geese and there were certainly plenty of children to enjoy them. This brings me onto the only slightly negative aspect.
On both the nights we were there, children were being allowed to run around the campsite until well after 11pm and then we were woken up by children playing at 6am with little or no supervision. We had hoped the parents would have shown more consideration to their fellow campers and perhaps the owners could have done more. We did mention it so who knows. We have decided to try the campsite again in the hope this was a one-off.
However, overall we had a very enjoyable weekend on a pleasant, if somewhat basic, campsite and would recommend it to anyone wanting something cheap and cheerful and is not looking for 5 star luxury.

Good value for money, views of south Downs and lovely walks. Could arrive at any time with a tent and were relaxed about leaving times Was told to camp in middle or at edge although full at edge, people tended to camp on top of us although there was plenty of room. Nice relaxed site. Only 2 showers for a lot of people, 75p. Local pub good food and made very welcome.

I stayed here on a Sunday night in beautiful weather.
It is one large field attached to a farm with electricity points down either side.
There are chicken and goats. Dogs allowed, but keep on a lead.
The washing up facilities were outside with bowls and drainers, so that was nice.
The Chemical disposal point is also outside, and fine.
There is no motorhome service point, although if you had your own hose you could fill up water from the drinking water tap.
The showers required tokens, so I didn't bother with them.
The site has beautiful views of the South Downs and is very quiet - absolutely no car noise whatsoever, just birds.
Footpaths start immediately from the door of the site, so it's a lovely place to go walking, take your Ordnance Survey map.
The village has a shop and a pub, within a short walk.
It was cheap - I paid £10 for my motorhome with electricity.
A great place to get away from it all.

Cheap but cheerful site set up short lane from the main road through Small Dole. Loos and showers a bit basic, but nice wide open field with great views of the Downs and good and dark at night which meant star gazing was good.
Few other facilities on site but the kids did enjoy the little animals kept on site including chickens and rabbits. Relaxed atmosphere with few 'rules' - ok for our stay.

Just wanted a base for exploring the area and weren't fussed about paying for 'extras' that wouldn't be used. This was perfect - and good value at £8 per night for a medium 4 berth tent.
As others have said, toilets are basic, but cleaned regularly; however there wouldn't be enough if site was as full as could be (went just after Spring Bank Hol).
Owners pleasant and helpful with info on arrival (recommended pub for food but had other plans) and happy for us to initially pay for first night out of potential 2 in case the bank holiday weather proved to be the norm!
Improvements? 1. More facilities (as per above). 2. As most pitches were without elec, somewhere to freeze cool blocks (even pay modest fee for - 20p per block?) would be useful. 3. Covering pot wash area for when the Great British Summer arrives!
Overall, would go again (not at peak times) if we want to see more of area.
