I have been camping all around the UK and in Europe for many years and I can quite honestly say, that this is one of the worst campsites I have ever been to. It cost £16 for 2 adults, without any electric or close facilities. I have stayed in campsites for £4 a night that were 10 times better!
Don't get me wrong, Epping Forest is lovely, when you pass the borders of the campsite which are littered with beer cans and bottles, toilet roll, condoms and human turds. Why is this you ask? Its because the nearest facilities to field 7 are about a 10 minute walk away and when you get there, you would wish you had also gone in the woods instead. The toilets are in a portacabin that smells like a tramps rancid y-fronts and there is a great big skip for bagged rubbish next to them which clearly hadn't been emptied for some time and was not only ripe, but swarming with wasps.
The camping ground itself is a bit like a large over used town park and has the same quantity of litter and filth as one. The campers seem to have no respect for the park and the park wardens don't seem to be bothered to clear it up either.
Oh, but despite all this, the security is quite good. Well that is to say, they make sure everyone has paid up properly. The lady at the front desk was about to charge me for an extra 2 children. Which was news to me as I don't have any children. Interesting! When I told her this, she gave this look as if to say I was lying to her. Hang on, I'll just go and check my camper to see if there are any stowaway children shall I?!
I suspect the highlight of our stay was the novelty of no sleep whatsoever due to the very large party of young people in the field next door who delighted us with their singing all night. I am not kidding when I say this - it was just like 'Britain's got Talent'/a very poor version of 'The Choir' but with drink and drugs. Most campsites have limits on groups of youngsters and same sex parties - but there must have been easily 30 people.
This campsite is clearly only interested in getting it's money and allowing people to behave as badly as they like - obviously some people find this acceptable. But we won't be going back, which I am sure will make no difference to the owners whatsoever.
I didn't try the showers or any of the other facilities so I can't comment on them.
And before you think we are old fuddy duddies have a moan, we are both in our 30's, enjoy a good laugh and a late night with our friends. But we prefer common decency and care about keeping our country beautiful for all!

A camp-site for all types of campers. Different fields depending on what you would like.
For example, hook ups if wanted, mowed and flat, or (my preference a bit wilder. The field we were in allowed bonfires and was right next to a huge woodland. It was a family get together so all ages were enjoying the camp together and wandering around the woods.
I remember facilities being bit of a walk but not too bad.
We had plenty of room although I don't know if several pitches were booked together in advance.
There was plenty of of great hunks of wood but I think we had to get it from a pile placed there for the purpose, not taken from the woodland.
A piece of the countryside just off the tube line. Who'd have thought it!?

Exactly as the previous 2 reviewers describe it - absolutely the worst campsite we have ever stayed on. Don't go! We had the same experience of the all night party, the raided site, the inaccessible woods - nothing like camping at all. The security guard on the gate (yes really!) apparently heard some noise but couldn't leave his post, however the people that stole our stuff got in illegally through the woods!
The only positive thing I can say is that the showers were big and relatively clean. But miles from the decent fields.

We stayed here with some friends. There were 6 adults and 3 tents. We stayed for 1 night and loved it. We have already planned to go back. Here are the pros and cons.
Pros.
Clean well kept site
Surrounding areas lovely. Forest and some lovely pubs
Being allowed fires a huge bonus.
Great bike hire shop
Great cafe for breakfast
Lots of security so you feel safe
Great atmosphere at night
Toilets and showers always clean. Plenty of loo roll
Showers are huge so room for your clothes, towel etc
Cons
Toilets a long way from the fire fields. We had a bike with us so we rode to the toilets. Would have been a pain to keep walking there. About a 10 minute walk each way.

We are locals but surprisingly this was the first time we have used the site. We just stayed 1 night with some friends who were first time campers who wanted to take their kids. There were 3 families altogether making a group of 12. Kids aged 2 and a half to 8.
I have mixed feelings about the site so here are pros and cons:
Pros:
Beautiful setting
Couple of play areas
Huge natural play area - the forest - kids enjoyed making dens
Decent cafe for brekkie
You can have a fire
Cons:
Field quite waterlogged
Field 7 where we stayed had quite a bit of rubbish left behind by careless campers, especially old bits of wire racks from disposable bbqs, a fair amount of glass bottles and one of the kids found a tampon holder left lying about.
We were also put next to a very large group who were celebrating a birthday. They were quite loud and even let off a few fireworks! I don't mind groups but my issue is I can't understand why we had to stay on our allocated pitch when there was lots of space in a huge field!
Security do the rounds. Our friends parents were not even allowed in for 5 minutes to see the grand kids camping for the first time without paying. Was a bit disappointed in that as they live round the corner!
That said we will go again as its a lovely spot and the camp fire was a highlight for the kids!

As a group of friends with children, we used to go to Debden three or four times a year, camping for the weekend. It's very close to London, and accessible on the tube, while being in Epping Forest, which is the best thing about the site. However, this site is not without problems. Nine times out of ten, staff had lost our booking. Field 5 is, for some unknown reason, where most of the antisocial behaviour goes on.
The site allows open fires, which I love, but in recent years, builder's rubble has been provided for people to burn. Untreated pallets are OK (still not a patch on real wood from the forest) but MDF, plastic and other rubbish are also burnt, resulting in acrid smoke. My group don't use it, but the camp is packed during bank holiday weekends, so you can't help but breathe it.
And it's bring your own loo paper from Saturday night onwards! In September, when it's mosquito season, some of the charming people camping there use their muddy boots to splat the mosquitoes in the toilets, smearing the walls in the process. It's really off-putting, especially when you have children.

We have stayed at this site many times over the last few years as it is local to us. The site is huge and divided into 'fields' some of which have firepits.
The booking in process can be slow during busy periods and the carpark to be used whilst booking in is quite small and busy with only one entrance/exit, so not ideal if you are towing a caravan!
The facilities are really good and the site has a cafe/shop which serves good breakfasts and a bicycle hire shop at reasonable rates. The shower and toilet block are cleaned twice a day and the shower cubicles are huge. It has a small animal enclosure and children's playing areas surrounded with vast forest areas.
The security at the site is good, during one of our visits a few visitors suffered thefts, including our two daughters bikes that were stolen. I reported this to the office on site and fortunately
The security guards had stopped someone trying to leave the site with the bikes and had kept them. Unfortunately not everyone affected was so lucky.
Overall the site is peaceful and well priced.

Went for 2 nights here with the family. 2 tents and a camper round a firepit.
Think we were in one of the group fields and did find that some of the younger campers were a bit noisy with their music. Was also really disappointed with the state some campers left their pitches in when they left.
Security was good and when the wood ran out, a enterprising local man came around with truck loads (a wheelbarrow full for a fiver)
I found it amazing, Saturday night - everyone burning fires and the haze that was over the site. Brilliant stuff.
The showers were great - hot and as much as you wanted for free (push button). Didnt use the loo as had own facilities.
Defo will be going again.

My daughter and I stayed here and apart from some admin issues, we had a fab time.
We arrived on foot after getting a bus from Ilford Town Centre and it's about a 10 minute walk although towards the approach to Debden House there were no footpaths.
On arrival, I asked for a field, for just one night, where I could have a campfire and was initially told no as they were all booked. I explained I had phoned in the week to enquire and was told I didn't need to book. I could just pay and pitch as it were. To give the team at the desk their credit, they didn't argue and let me pay. I am guessing though this is because the field they actually put me on wasn't 'fully booked' as they first said.
My daughter and found a lovely little spot and pitched. We found where all the wood was we could get although I would say take an axe or claw hammer with you if you are on field 2 as it is more blocks of wood and you have to go on a search.
I had no problems with the washing facilities and toilets. They were relatively clean and they had soap (nice soap actually) in the dispensers. I would say, after 8pm take your own loo roll just in case.
My daughter made friends pretty quickly as they all just play together.
All in all, it was a fab overnight stay and we plan to do it again before the start if the new school term.

This site is less than 5 minutes car drive from us and yet it feels like we have gone miles from home. Quite surreal.
We have stayed here for 1 or 2 night breaks many times. I will list the pros and cons.
Pros.
~Beautiful location right on the edge of Epping Forest.
~Loads of walks around and there's a deer sanctuary you can walk to.
~Lovely campsite for children. Nice kids play area in field 1. Basic swing and not much else in field 3?? (cant remember the number. )
~Cafe on site and a small shop area.
~An abundance of ditches and loads of room for the kids to enjoy playing free and enjoying the forest.
~You can park your car at your pitch.
~There's a few farm animals to look at in a fenced off area.
~You can have a camp fire on allocated fields.
Cons.
~Toilet block is ok but often no toilet paper later in the day. There is a portable cabin block further on site which is quite grubby at times as it is so well used. More toilet facilities are needed.
~The site can be quite noisy at night. Sometimes we have stayed and not had any noise problems but one time a group in the field behind us were far too noisy going on well into the early hours.
To conclude the site has something about it, a nice relaxed friendly feel. We do enjoy going there for a night or two.
