We stayed here for an overnight before catching the Dover ferry - as it was a bank holiday weekend, there were not many places that were available or would accept a single night booking. I emailed Dunn Street and got a reply within a couple of hours to say they had a pitch free. I thought it was a pleasant farm campsite, yes you can hear the motorway in the distance, but at least there is not much traffic immediately next to the campsite field. The washing facilities were good, and the provision of fridge, freezer and kettle for campers was particularly useful. If you are in the non-EHU field, you are across a lane from the farm, so this does perhaps make it harder for younger children to go to the toilet unaccompanied.
When you drive up from Ashford, make sure you take the second turn to Westwell (not the first, as that is a more narrow approach).
We stayed here on an overnight before taking the tunnel to France the next morning. The booking process was very easy (all via email) and the owner emails instructions on how and where to set up. We never saw him/her at all, just left the money in the honesty box.
On arrival we were scuppered a bit as the field had just been mowed for hay which was still lying in rows waiting to be bailed. This made manoeuvring a bit tricky as I didn't want to drive all over the hay, but we eventually got sited OK.
Unfortunately we chose the one night they were going to bale up the hay, which took place right outside our window until about 10pm - some people might have found this unacceptable but to be fair if you stay on a working farm you have to expect some farming related activity!
The facilities were fine, not super luxury but good enough, and the site is pretty quiet although it is quite close to the motorway so you will hear the steady hum of traffic all the time. Not too intrusive though in a caravan, might be a bit more noticeable in a tent.
It's obvious that a lot of people use this site for its easy access to the Eurotunnel, so I would expect a few early-morning leavers, but it really is ideally located for that purpose.
Overall a nice little site, I'm not sure it'd be suitable for a lengthy stay but for a week or a stopover for the tunnel it's great.
I arrived on foot while walking the North Downs Way (the campsite is right on the path). After a short briefing regarding the site layout, I booked in and paid using the honesty box provided. There was plenty of space to find a pitch and I was more than happy with the toilet and shower facilities. I found the owners to be very friendly and helpful, and the pub down the road served a good ale. After I finished the NDW at Boughton Lees, I walked two miles to return to the campsite for another overnight stay.
My boyfriend and I planned a last-minute escape from London over bank holiday weekend. We chose Dunn Street Farm as it is one of the few rural campsites in Kent that aren’t Holiday Parks and wasn’t fully booked. It also had excellent reviews on this website and I can say we weren’t disappointed at all.
The booking process was very easy, email to check availability and then another to confirm. All took a couple of days. Getting there wasn’t too bad even though we don’t drive. We took a train to Ashford, bus to Hothfield and then walked for 40 minutes to the campsite. Reasonably pleasant as we travelled light. Price was £42 for the both of us for three nights, bargain. Checking-in involved filling out a form and putting it in a box with cash.
There are two fields and we were in the main camping field. Despite it being bank holiday weekend there were only a maximum of 7 tents there at one time so we had a lot of space (possibly due to the fact that it rained all the time!). The field had been mown around the edges providing a lovely flat surface to pitch the tent.
The facilities were luxurious compared to campsites I have visited in the past. The showers were hot and the washing room had a fridge and freezer. Everything was pretty clean. There was also the option to buy Eggs and Apple juice.
The only downside is the area. We wanted to go on a few walks so we took an Ordnance Survey map and set out in the rain. The North Downs Way runs along the road the campsite is on and the bits of this we walked on were lovely. But beyond that the majority of the woodland is private and the ‘public footpaths’ are overgrown and impossible to walk on resulting in us getting very wet and dirty on our afternoon stroll. Also, to get to the nice bits you have to navigate the busy A roads without pavements so it was generally quite stressful, Kent is definitely built for cars.
The local pub ‘The Wheel’ was really nice, the owners were chatty and pleasant and the food was good. The closest shop is about an hour’s walk so we had to take everything we needed with us.
So, I can’t fault the campsite it’s just a shame about the area. It would probably be much better with a car.
We spent nine nights at this wonderful campsite. It was a very good experience thanks to the owners who are really friendly with everybody. Pitches aren't delimited and you can take all the field you need. The ground is very good, flat and absorbent for rain. You can have shadow during the morning or the afternoon. Bathrooms are plain, but good. Children have fun because of the animals living there (sheeps, horse and cats) and because they can use the fields as playground.
During our stay there were only 3-6 tents; there was crowd only during weekend, when a lot of families arrived, but they went home after two days. There is a room with washing machine, refrigerator and freezer where you can find also two showers; there are toilet blocks with other showers next to that room; bathrooms were always clean. Very hot water was always available.
There isn't possibility to buy food at campsite and in the neighbourhood there aren't shops, but if you have a car, you can go to supermarket during one of your daily trips and use the common refrigerator for keeping them.
This campsite is very good if you wish a holiday in a peaceful place: there is a wonderful countryside and beautiful trips to do by car (Canterbury, Leeds Castle, a lot of villages).
During the night no noise at all, sometimes a background noise from motorway; but at dawn a lot of wild birds will wake you up!
Set in 500 acres of beautiful, rolling Kent countryside. The Oast village on site is the World's largest Oast house collection and makes for a spectacular backdrop. Grass and hardstanding pitches for caravans, tents and motorhomes with electric option. Modern toilets and showers and multiple washing up facilities.
Small shop onsite and pub/restaurant at the entrance. The River Medway flows through the site, providing idyllic waterside pitches. Make the most of the location and try your hand at canoeing or fishing or simply sit back, unwind and enjoy wildlife spotting. Five minutes' drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London Find out more here
Just returned from a few days r and r here! Lovely site, very rural, though unfortunately the constant lull of M20 traffic in the background, just persuaded myself it was the crashing waves at Mawgan Porth instead!
Two camping fields, one you could park next to your tent, the other (with ehu) where you had to load/unload and then park alongside the field.
We were in the latter, huge field on a slope, but pitches were more level at the edges, still sloping enough to make levelling tricky. Huge field with loads of space for kids to run around in centre. There were a fair few campers coming and going - seemed to be popular for one night stopovers, but it never seemed full.
You choose where you pitch around the edge of the field, lovely mature hedging on all sides to give shelter, no set pitch sizes. When we had direct neighbours they were 20 - 40 feet away from us!
Facilities were a bit of a walk from the tent. Gents and ladies, both with 2 loos and one shower. Also a kitchen area, with 2 sinks, fridge, freezer, kettle, washing machine and two more showers. A small honesty shop type place, with eggs and apple juice for sale. Showers free and very hot - adjustable.
Because of the setting and the huge field it was very quiet and peaceful, my two even slept in until about 9am as we weren't disturbed by other children. There were others, but quite a distance away!
Pub at Westwell was walkable, didn't try it though. We ate at the Halfway House in Challock, lovely food, huge garden with climbing frames etc, excellent service.
We just spent a lovely few days on this camp site and would highly recommend.
There are two fields, one where you can have the car next to your tent/ caravan and one where you park the car just outside the field (apart from when loading/ unloading).
Both fields are 5 mins walk from the excellent clean facilities, toilets and showers as you would expect but also a utility room with washing machine, 2 sinks, fridge, freezer an even a kettle for campers use. Plus two extra showers in addition to the one each in the ladies and gents. Eggs and locally pressed apple juice are on sale here too.
The site is on the North Downs Way footpath so excellent position for walking. You can also wak down to the village - the pub is more of a restaurant but the food was good.
You can hear the M20 in the background when ts quiet at night but to be honest it was very faint and the birdsong / wind in the trees was louder!
We do not have children but al the other families kids seemed to be having a great times -lots of space for ball games in the central area of the field away from the tents - plus petting the sheep and a horse in the fields nearby seemed popular.
An excellent site - great value for money too. We will be back
Just returned from 2 nights at Dunn street farm. Had a great time kids absolutely loved it, after being recommended by another UKCampsite.co.uk camper we where really impressed!
the owners where very friendly and welcoming on the following day of arrival the father Gordon approached us I thought he was coming to complain about my loud kids but the opposite he asked if we where ok and if we needed anything?
We where allowed to camp anywhere we liked and the other campers mainly danish where very friendly! the site was very idyllic and the kids spent hours with the resident horse and sheep & kept making excuses to use the toilet but we knew they just wanted to stroke the horse!
We made use of the free range eggs on offer with honesty box and the available apple juice very nice also I needed to use the washing machine that was very handy and there where plenty of hot showers too and loo roll available!
We went walking around the north downs and the views where stunning! If you are looking for a cheap friendly peaceful place then this is the one place to go we will definitely come back soon when I get a waterproof tent! Cannot say enough good things about this place!
A lovely site. Peaceful and laid back. The facilities are clean and spacious. The showers are free and there was always plenty hot water. The availability of a freezer for freezer blocks is great especially when your in a tent and free even better.
The owners were friendly and helpful but kept a low profile. We camped on the field on the farm thinking it would be near the toilet block but to be honest there isn't much difference in the distance to the field across the road.
It is very handy for visiting Canterbury and the Kent coast. The roads round it are single track and can be a bit hair raising when your not used to them.
The nearest pub is the Wheel in Westwell and is just in walking distance. However I wouldn't recommend it. We walked to it the first night and found there was only a small amount of seating as the majority of the pub set for meals, although there was no smell of food. The staff weren't very friendly or welcoming. We were told there was a large beer garden which there is but we didn't really want to sit outside. Also the choice of beer and lager is extremely limited and expensive. Needless to say we didn't go back.
I would however recommend the Half Way House at Challock about 2 miles from the site if you want a nice meal (seafood is their speciality) in lovely surrounding and with friendly helpful staff. Its not that cheap but well worth it. Probably would return next time we go to Kent
Brilliant site. Friendly owner (Joe has a wander round most evenings to make sure all is OK). The horse, cat and dog also very friendly :-)
Such a delight to have free use of fridge / freezer / showers.
Honesty box for use of a washing machine, wonderful eggs and fruit juice.
Site overall was very clean and tidy. Was disturbed by a unit packing up REALLY early (5. 30am), probably for the tunnel. Would have been nice if there was an area for those who wish to depart at such an early hour.
On the whole, a brilliant site, would definitely recommend it.
Local pub great, good food and very friendly staff.
Great for visiting south coast as well as Whitstable and Chatham etc
