'What a pleasure'. The owners (particularly Joe - could not have been more friendly and helpful)
The showers/toilets/kitchen area - where you are trusted to pay (a rare thing these days) for eggs, fruit juice, washing machine etc are pristine.
It is so tranquil. Too be able to wake up and see horses grazing and just the pleasure of the English countryside is ideal. The area is close to a variety of attractions that will suit all the family.
The site has no playgrounds etc so possibly boring for young children - which makes it ideal for those of us who want to relax and appreciate the beauty of a time away.
This is a really nice campsite with good facilities.
There are 2 large fields (one of which is across the other side of the road to the Farm/Reception). The one next to the farm has electric hook-up and was the busier of the two when we were there, but we camped in the other field which was practically empty most of the time and it was August Bank Holiday. The field could easily hold 20+ tents, but there were never more than 7.
It's tucked away just outside the village of Westwell (which is within walking distance and has a decent pub called The Wheel) and is only 10 minutes or so outside Ashford. Some have written about the M20 which you can hear in the distance. Sometimes you can hear it and others you can't, depending on the wind direction, but it was never too loud that it spoilt our enjoyment.
The owners are very friendly and pleasant and leave you to get on with things yourself, to the extent where on arrival you fill in a booking form and post it with your fees and go and find a pitch. The toilet blocks are quite rustic, but the showers are hot and FREE and a self-service freezer where you can leave your ice-blocks, also for FREE.
There are horses and chickens on the farm and there are recycling facilities. There is no shop, but you can buy eggs and local apple juice from the wash room.
The only bad points I would say are the fact that it is not very well signposted until you get to the road the farm is off. An OS map is highly recommended for finding it. Also, there are no shops on the site or in Westwell, but there is a convenience store on the main road in to Ashford which always seemed to be open. There's a pub and a chip shop and a few other outlets next to it as well. And there's a Waitrose in Ashford.
The site is in a great location for visiting lots of attractions in the area such as Canterbury, Leeds Castle and Sissinghurst as it is quite central to all of them.
All-in-all, I would recommend this site to anyone.
We have just camped over the bank holiday weekend and will definitely stay at this site again.
Lovely site, the owners are really friendly and laid back. You can only take your car into site to unload and load but the little carpark within the farm is right next to the field so that was not a problem. It was at it's fullest apparently and there was so much space!
No assigned pitches - you could make yourself a nice little home. It was so generously spaced with big open expanse in the middle where families were having small games of cricket and football.
I love the fact it is on a farm, you walk past the horses on the way to the facilities (about 3-5 min walk from site but clearly pathed.). There were also sheep and chickens etc. On approach to site.
Facilities were basic but really nicely done and kept clean with little extras that make such a difference like soap and hand towels. They had a washing machine available for small charge and a fridge/freezer and washroom. In washroom was the booking/payment info and some locally produced fruit juices and eggs etc. Which were delicious!
The camping field we were in (there are 2) is kind of on the top of the hill and although the weather wasn't really bad it was extremely windy at night but there are lots of trees and bushes to tuck into.
Each evening the owner came for a wonder around the field to make sure everyone was ok.
Took us 20 minutes to drive to Cantebury which was gorgeous and about 25 to drive to Herne Bay and Whistable which were a lovely day at the coast.
This is a fab site. We stayed in 'Brocks' which is a lovely open field. The relaxed feel was just what we needed for our birthday celebration camping.
We were able to set up exactly where and how we wanted. The field is more than big enough to feel that we weren't encroaching on the other campers around us.
Other reviews mentioned the traffic noise which is only just audible, but to be honest it sounds more like the sea and so isn't intrusive at all.
Ashford is only 10-15 mins away for shopping but on site they have free range eggs and the most gorgeous pear juice. Just leave the money in the box.
Washing facilities very clean and with a lovely country feel to them. Infact better than a lot of more expensive sites I've stayed at.
We will definitely be going back as it is the perfect place for a quick get away from London.
Great site, two separate areas. We were in the lower area, across the road from the bathrooms. The bathrooms are basic but clean and good supply of hot water. The field is flat and quiet and well mown. Good location because you're right on the Downs so it's great for walkers and when I phoned up to book and found they were full, they were prepared to squeeze in walkers, but not cars which I found encouraging. Well recommended.
Set in 500 acres of beautiful, rolling Kent countryside. The Oast village on site is the World's largest Oast house collection and makes for a spectacular backdrop. Grass and hardstanding pitches for caravans, tents and motorhomes with electric option. Modern toilets and showers and multiple washing up facilities.
Small shop onsite and pub/restaurant at the entrance. The River Medway flows through the site, providing idyllic waterside pitches. Make the most of the location and try your hand at canoeing or fishing or simply sit back, unwind and enjoy wildlife spotting. We had a lovely weekend at this quiet and well kept campsite. You will need a good ordnance survey map to find it.
The owners are very friendly and not at all officious. The campsite is quiet, well run, clean and well mown. It is split into two fields. On the opposite side of the very quiet lane is a field for tents without EHU. Up the farm lane is a flat and spacious field for touring caravans and tents needing EHU. Pitches are around the edge of the field. Once you have pitched it is requested that you park the car just ouside the camping field on the wide verge of the private farm track. This meant the campsite was very quiet and safe for small children.
There is no purpose built play equipment but there are sheep/lambs, ponies and chicken with eggs and apple juice available to purchase. Plentiful leaflets and local information is made available.
It is right on the North Downs Way and seemed to be well equipped for those travelling light with an area to make a cup of tea, fridge etc. Showers and toilets were simple but well maintained.
Lots of walks from your doorstep with beautiful views all around. We would not hesitate to go back. Handy if travelling a distance before a channel crossing but it is quite a distance from the motorway.
This site is divided into two fields, separated by farm buildings and a quiet lane. Both are fringed by hedges and offer loads of space, thanks to a policy of low density camping. We had a choice of pitch even on a bank holiday weekend. Charges are very reasonable.
The farm setting and animals make for a rustic atmosphere. Amenities are decent and well maintained. They include a communal fridge and freezer. As many others have commented, the camp owners are extremely welcoming. Nearby are excellent walks on the Downs and a thriving pub (with large garden) in Westwell. A bit further afield are Canterbury, the Kent coast, castles and other attractions.
On the debit side was constant rumble from the M20: not loud but still noticeable. We also missed the magic ingredient of a real camp-fire. Overall, though, Dunn Street made for a relaxing break and we look forward to returning next summer.
An absolute gem of a site, facilities fantastic-showers and toilets clean. As site is on a farm the farm animals where a saviour for our little girl, waking up to see the sheep, horses and chickens. Excellent large field, Not overly busy, on a main road but couldn't hear a thing!
Lovely helpful owners even at 9pm at night when we had just arrived after being stuck on M6!
We'd definitely visit again when we go down that part of the country, Excellent value-Excellent visit!
We chose this site for a Mon - Fri getaway as it is fairly central to east Kent.
The roads to the site may be a bit daunting for caravans (very narrow) but there were a few on the field. Plenty of room on the field which is fairly level and kept mown. Some powerpoints, though we didn't use them, and a standpipe for water. Heavy rain one night didn't have any noticeable effect on the field. Shower/toilet facilities are perfectly adequate if not the most modern (2 loos, 1 free shower, handwash in each), they are about 50 metres from the field.
The owner was very friendly, as were his dogs and a couple of hand reared sheep (off to market at the end of July. Sad, but that's farming).
Because of the planning regulations you can't keep your car by the tent but there is a parking area just outside the field, campervans are allowed on the field. There is another field across the road where you can have your car with you but it's slightly further to the facilities.
We were well outnumbered by the Dutch on site and enjoyed several conversations about the local area. Ashford, the nearest town, has superstore type supermarkets.
As the birds, sheep, horses and general farm noise of the area died down in the evening we could just pick up the drone of motorway traffic but I suspect it was a case of the wrong wind speed and direction, overall the site was very quiet after about 10 at night.
Plenty to see in the area. Sissinghurst, Bodiham, Canterbury, Dover castle etc plus some lovely local walks on public footpaths, take an OS map.
We would, and probably will, return as there's plenty still to see in the area and this is the type of quiet campsite we prefer.
What a lovely site, quiet and peaceful and undisturbed.
We were the only caravan there over Easter weekend (the last 1/4 mile to the farm is a bit narrow but manageable with a 16ft van), and there were only four or five tents, all of whom were politely quiet after dark.
The field is level and mown and has electric hookups, which should be booked in advance. While we were there, half of the top end of the field was taped off for the newborn lambs to use, though I believe this is used during the busier months for additional camping space. There is a paddock over the fence and horses in the next field too.
The couple who own the farm are friendly and helpful and look after the shower rooms and toiltes and the vegetable prep room very well. All the facilities appear to be new or recently re-done, and while they are basic, are very clean and more than adequate.
Although the site is only about 1 mile from the motorway, we heard no traffic noise at all, though this may have been because there was less traffic on bank holidays. All we could hear were the many songbirds singing their hearts out each morning, a joy to listen to.
I would definitely recommend this site if you are looking for a quiet getaway. Certainly not a site for those wanting noisy after dark revelry and all night drinking sessions (thank heaven!)
