Visited for a weekend in August. We were a large group with 7 tents and a mix of adults, teenagers and young children. This campsite is ideal for groups as you can pitch tents in a circle as there are no fixed pitches. If you are a large group it is good for some of your party to arrive early and stake your claim as there are no pitch reservations. We arrived at 11am.
The showers were better the earlier you went. There were only 4 for woman (as far as I found), there never appeared to be a queue but understandably with that many people they were never going to be pristine by the end of the morning. There were a lot more toilets and they always appeared to be clean.
I would recommend this campsite for groups as it is perfect if you all want to camp together and have a fire pit/BBQ. If I was on my own it wouldn't be my first choice.
We felt the pitch prices were expensive and charged per tent per person per child. Costly indeed.
Facilities where absolutely disgusting, the female toilets a disgrace! Some disgusting person had wiped poo over the cubicle wall, and the showers were cold and left me feeling dirtier than when I went in! Bugs, hair, a used sanitary towel! I was so disgusted I threw up!
We left early.
Staff extremely helpful! But we feel the facilities need to be more monitored and we did NOT get our monies worth.
I'm not a snob, but I do think cleanliness in shared areas should be highly monitored on sites.
Especially when they are charging same price to pitch as a night in premier inn costs!
Wow this campsite has improved since our last visit a few years ago!
We visited as part of a group with couples and families with small children. We found a great spot in the main field close to play area, EHU and toilets. I can imagine if you turned up later on a Saturday afternoon you might struggle to find a good spot for a group within reach of hookup though as it's first come first served, pitch anywhere with no reserved spots. But the field was flat and well drained so no problem areas. Despite several groups it / was very family orientated and no loud noise or disruption, apart from kids playing in the play area until after 10pm! The play area so close was great for the older kids in our group as parents could keep an eye from sitting outside tent. In the evening fires in hired pits are allowed and adds to the atmosphere of the site. Happily everyone seemed to respect the 11pm curfew and there was no late night noise.
The facilities have been much improved and although not 5* they were warm, clean (but not spotless), no queues and plenty of free hot water. They could benefit from requesting children aren't allowed in them unaccompanied as young kids were constantly running in and out, not flushing loos, leaving puddles at sinks etc But maybe I'm being a bit pompous as too many rules like that would spoil the fun feeling of the site! It is a family orientated site and it's great to see kids having so much fun outdoors and camping.
The nearby village (Henfield) has everything needed with a Budgens, butchers, coffee shops, pubs etc. We found a lovely pub can't remember its just a few minutes away turn right out of campsite and right again and was on the left after a bend. It has a great play area and garden. Food is not traditional pub food it's all pizza and pasta, but they was ok with us!
A fab site and definitely recommended for families!
Visited this site as a group of 11 adults and 3 under 2 year olds. Would definitely visit again as individual families or as a group again.
The camp site is easy to find from the motorway and well signposted. On arrival you drive through the farm to the site which again is well signposted by static cows! Once at the site you need to book in prior to pitching which is in the on site shop. We were greeted very warmly and with a wealth of information of the site and local area and more importantly a huge smile.
Pitching is a first come first serve with courtesy for others that have paid for or need electric hook up. There are 2 fields, the furthest away is the 'quiet' field by the lake and the first field is mainly for the families with children, although this is not a rule, just how the visitors choose to pitch.
The second field is very basic and you will need to walk to the first field to use the facilities but this is not far, a good 2 minutes! The first field has everything! There is a playground area in the centre which is very well stocked for all ages, although the swings do not have a baby/toddler seat which I think could be considered but this is very minor. The climbing frames/slides are for all ages and there are also model cows and horses that the children can play on. Our under 2 year olds loved this area and all children of all ages had plenty of room to play in the area and out of the area without disturbing anyone.
The electric points are allocated around the edge of the field with several water and fire points following suit so no need to carry big tubs of water across a field (and was easy to fill up the baby paddling pool!).
The facilities were always clean and well stocked. I used the family showers as I am heavily pregnant and had my 1. 5 year old with me. The showers were always hot, had good pressure and lots of room to shower both yourself and your child with ample dry space in the same area to dry and change without the need to go in to the public area to do so. Very well thought out. The toilets were regularly cleaned and at no point could I complain and the facilities were open at all times (even at 4:30 in the morning when you just can't hold on any more!) We were very lucky with the weather and it stayed dry during the day but on rainy days the washing up facilities could cause a problem as these are in the open with no shelter, but wasn't a problem for us.
The fields you camp on are well drained and well maintained. We had a thunder and lightening storm the first night which had torrential rain but in the morning when it finished the fields were not too muddy and the ground dried very quickly.
The on site shop had everything you could think of, even ice cream which was very welcoming in the heat! You also have the woods adjoining for nice pleasant walks. There are several pubs nearby which we didn't visit on this occasion but we did go to the local country fair which was great fun. Lots to do in the area and the coast is not a too far away drive either.
A site well worth trying and we definitely go again.
A relaxed site, great for kids with a large well stocked playground in the middle and pitches surrounding it. There is also a second large area for wild camping, very peaceful & open. Friendly helpful staff and a useful shop, we have stayed here several times as it's not too far and have never been disappointed. The showers and toilets have extended which is good as that was needed. Good range of recycling facilities too and they hire out fire pits.
The highlight for me is the woodland linked to the site it was covered in the most amazing bluebell carpet when we last went - stunning!
Lots to do nearby & plenty of shops in henfield also places to eat, tea rooms galore and pubs dotted around.
I have run our fifth rally for fans of the Stonewylde books and I have to say that each year gets better and better at Blacklands. The service I receive when booking and through the the year before each rally is brilliant and the staff are very accommodating. The improvements to the facilities are brilliant and I had no complaints from any of the 31 units that were booked in with the rally.
we had a wonderful campfire over the weekend which we then filled back in afterwards. The rally field is perfect, a little secluded from the main site, which is good and also very well cared for, as is the whole site. Not once did I see any litter or untidiness.
Needless to say that I have booked in for 2015 already. Well done to everyone at Blacklands.
We booked into Blacklands for 2 nights over the early May bank holiday with our 9 and 12 year old boys and some friends who made a last minute decision and booked in for 1 night.
On arrival we 'checked in' at reception with (presumably) the owners who were very friendly and helpful. We were told we could camp where we liked (avoiding EHU as we hadn't paid for this). There are two fields; the top one was very family friendly with a large kids play area in the middle and plenty of room for ball games. The bottom one was probably quieter, very attractive and with a lake at the bottom. We decided to plump for the top field as due to the ridiculous rainfall over winter the bottom field was still quite soft and boggy in places.
Once pitched I checked out the facilities - plenty of toilets and basins, separate men's and women's shower blocks (4 showers in the ladies I think if my memory serves me correctly) and a couple of family showers - all very clean. There were also plently of washing up sinks and fresh water pipes - again all well maintained.
The shop/reception was extremely well stocked with the type of foods you'd like to see when camping. It also had a selection of children's outdoor games and a decent array of pocket money sweets which was a great touch. Nothing was too over priced either which you often find in campsite shops.
The field was surrounded by a small woodland which looked like great fun for the older kids although ours didn't really check it out that much as were busy playing other games.
We took our own BBQ and firepit which already had stands to keep them off the ground but I did notice that there was a pile of bricks/tiles by the rubbish area which you could help yourselves to if you needed - again a really thoughtful touch.
If I had one MINOR criticism it would be that they could do with a bin by the washing up areas as I did notice that there were some food scraps lurking on the back of one of the sinks which I guess the person responsible for would have scraped into the bin had there have been one.
Overall a great campsite with a friendly relaxed atmosphere with no-one hassling/rushing you - that being said I did see the owner whizzing round in a golf cart a couple of times checking things out so if you did have a problem they were there to help. Luckily for us this site is only half hour down the road so we will definitely be back.
Great site. Simple but perfect. Really great attitude and very friendly staff. Very laid back. Great little shop with all the essentials. Kids loved it too. Loos and showers are fine - could do with hot water in the taps in the bathroom and one or two more showers, but apart from that, if you like your campsite, no frills, this is spot on!
When we went to Blacklands we were aware it was basic, however disappointed with just how basic, toilets were dirty, cobwebs on the ceilings, 5 sinks in ladies toilets 1 cracked, 3 without plugs, no hot water. Showers hit and miss with both power & temperature, the family ones slightly more room but dirty with hair in plug holes, 2 hooks for hanging items, windows didn't shut fully so cold. Men's block not any better.

Well stocked shop which was never open, no sign to say when it would be staffed.
Dog walking area good, plenty of public footpaths, offered a map of area which was useful to identify paths.
Henfield is a pleasant village, good tea rooms & several pubs, access to the South Downs cycle track, and a range of useful shops, however it is a 45/50 minute walk across fields and over stiles, I found 3 routes all very muddy but only to be expected in April. To walk by road is about 30 mins BUT a very busy road with no footpaths and a lot of sharp bends
Wouldn't be somewhere I would want to visit again, especially as not a cheap place to stay.
This was the first 'proper' camp site that I had ever visited, and I was pretty impressed with it. It's quite a large site, split over two fields, each with its' own set of toilets and shower blocks - both kept very clean (and stocked with loo roll), and although I visited at the August BH weekend, no major queues. The site is well off a main road, so the only noise around was the local wildlife. There is an 11pm curfew, although if you've ventured out in foot, you can get back in. If you do visit, a 20 minute yomp will bring you to The Royal Oak in nearby Wineham - purveyors of very fine food and the best cider (Wonky Donkey) you could possibly wish for. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Blacklands and will certainly go again.
First time we visited Blacklands Farm this year, as others were full at short notice. I sent an email mid evening to see if there was a free pitch for the next 2 nights (mid week) and they replied within half an hour, so we booked it! We received a warm welcome both times from the helpful and chatty staff, who provided us with any info we asked for. I thought it was a great setting, we pitched in the first field and faced the park and football goals, which was great for keeping an eye on the kids playing, whilst we relaxed. We walked on one of the trails and walked around the small lake. We only stayed for 2 nights both times and found the facilities basic but clean & replenished. Both nights were quiet by 10-10. 30ish which was good for my kids to sleep, and the fire pits are a great idea to have a safe/contained fire at night.
We drove to Shoreham beach about 15-20 mins away which is handy, and the kids love Shoreham as its normally quiet, but has sandy/pebble beaches and rocks to climb in and out of! Overall a very nice, short stay and we look forward to returning sometime again next year!
Have just come home from visiting this site - our first family camping trip!
In all, I was pleased with the site and would visit again. It had lovely surroundings and my children had a great time, but there were a few problems that I felt needed dealing with.
There are 2 fields to camp in - the top field has electric hook ups as well as a children's play area. This is also closest to the toilets, showers and drinking water. There are also washing up sinks nearby. In the bottom field there are washing up sinks (but only with cold water?) and drinking water - and this is the field we chose to camp in. You could pitch pretty much anywhere, we chose to pitch near the main entrance to the field and had friends which camped with us who joined us later in the day.
Our children had a fantastic time, although the play area was a little on the tatty side they enjoyed it anyway and it was very popular, even in the pouring rain! The on site shop was useful and the staff there were polite and helpful. It is possible to hire fire pits and logs/kindling etc but we didn't hire one on our stay.
The thing that let this site down is the showers/toilets. The showers were dirty and the water pressure was poor, while the toilets could have done with a clean too.
All in all, I would visit this site again, I just hope it would be a bit cleaner next time!
Just had 5 nights at blacklands farm with family, first impressions were not great as we were told that there was no electric hook up available (even though it had been booked months in advance ), we finally found one but owners didn't really seem to know who was on the site or not. Pitches were fairly well spread out and not cramped in. Facility's were very basic and dated no hot water to wash and showers were hit and miss ( only 2 showers for men for the whole site). No laundry was a shame but I should have checked before hand. Play park was for younger kids but there was plenty of room for football etc. All in all it was ok site but wouldn't recommend it or return which is a shame as its situated in a lovely part of the country.
Friendly welcome, reasonable facilities which were kept fairly clean most of the time. Good location, a pleasant walk into the village from the campsite with a short walk along the road belong the only drawback. We stayed for 6 nights, the site was very busy over the weekend when more showers and toilets would have been useful! On the whole the site is well maintained and has a good atmosphere, we would stay there again.
