We spent 5 nights at this lovely site. We chose La Ravoire mainly based on the reviews on this site and the fact they took camping cheques from the 25th August this year. We didn't book but then it was the 24th August when we arrived and talking to our neighbours the site had been very busy til a few days before our stay. We had a great pitch, given a choice of three which the owner showed us on foot. The site has a nice relaxing feel to it, lots of brits about 50% with plenty of Dutch, Germans and some Belgians. Toilets/ showers were always very clean. The ice cream is some of the best I have ever tasted and only 1 euro 20 with caramel being my favourite. Our kids loved the pool and slide. I spent most afternoons on a sun lounger on the grassy area overlooking the pool while the kids played. I agree with a previous reviewer in that the site was very quiet at night from as early as 9.30pm although on our first night the noise from the kids play area went on til 11.30pm.
The site shop is very basic, nice bread and croissants which need to be ordered the day before. We went to the Super you at ST Joriez for our main shop, there is also a Shoppi in Doussard which is slightly nearer. We went to Annecy on the boat one day, its a nice 10 min walk down to the lake. The cycle path runs past the site which we made good use of.
The sun went down behind the mountains by 6.15pm during our stay which is a bit of a shame as I love to sit in the evening sun, this wasn't something I had thought about it when considering the area.
To summarise this is a gem of a site, very well run in a great location.
Wow what a site! We have just returned from 15 nights at La Ravoire. Just 2 days of rain (and boy can it rain) but plenty of warm sunny days spent by the pool.
Our pitch was absolutely huge - enough space for an Outwell Nebraska, people carrier, table and chairs outside, and the usual games (swingball etc). There were some smaller pitches so I guess we got lucky.
The toilets / wash rooms / showers were spotless for much of the day. It would appear that the majority of visitors clean up behind them - you'd be embarrassed not to. Although only one block it is more than ample for the number of campers. I never once had to queue for any of the facilities.
A good mixture of tents and caravans. (I only spotted one caravan with a flag flying mounted on the obligatory fishing rod). Why do they do that? Likewise the nationalities - Dutch, English, Belgians, and French, in the main. The site is extremely well maintained.
The site is quite quiet with many of the campers retiring between 9.00-9.30pm. We felt like the resident party goers being sat outside the tent (beer and wine in hand) after 10.00pm! Many of the campers are up early in the morning, off walking and cycling, so early nights to be expected.
The site is situated amongst stunning scenery. It really is breath taking. Within a five minute walk is a cycle path to Annecy in one direction, and further into the Alps in the other. Annecy is great, but be prepared to take out a small mortgage, as the shops are on the expensive side. Yes it can take time to drive in to Annecy but the longest it took us was 45 minutes. There are plenty of other places to visit including Mont Blanc (a third mortgage required), some fantastic villages / skiing resorts. If you have children take a 35 minute drive to La Clusaz and enjoy the toboggan run and chair lift. Good value for money.
We spent quite a few days at one of the lake beaches. We found the best by far was at La Talloires (about a 10 minute drive from the site and well signposted). The kids loved it. A diving board and a slide that they have to swim out to, kept them busy for hours. If you don't want to go to a 'beach' with lifeguards there are many parking places on the lakeside. Just stop and jump in!
All in all we were very impressed with the site, the welcome, the facilities, and the scenery. If there were any negatives it was (and it's hard to describe) the lack of atmosphere after sundown. You may feel guilty if you stay up after 10.00pm. We are not party goers (passed that age many moons ago)but it really was very very quiet. Our Belgian neighbours would sneak out of an evening to visit a neighbour campsite bar for a quiet beer!
There is also a little road noise but you soon forget this after a couple of hours. The scenery is a great compensation.
Only visited this site to see friends, as stayed at lac bleu which was also near Doussard and right on the lake.
Firstly, I should say that we thought this site was a definite 4 star v's lac bleu. The wash and shower facilities were very clean and up to date. The pitches were small, but v's the other 3 sites visited these were larger. The other benefit for us was that our 3 children could play with other British kids as this site as it was 90% British. We found most other sites were 95% French / Dutch.
The pool facilities were good, but not totally toddler friendly. Also, being by the lake gave lac bleu 4 stars which imho it did not deserve and you felt like a sardine right next to the lake as pitches were only some 20ft from lake so little room.
Outstanding site. Not too big, extremely well run by the owner and his team, calm and relaxing atmosphere. When we went, there were plenty of UK visitors, plus quite a few Dutch and Belgians. Nice pool with slide and adequate playground for under 8s. Decent bar / restaurant, with cheap, if basic, take-away service. Shop has all the basics and far too tempting croissants/pain raisins etc for the mornings. Most pitches are large and the loo block is the nicest and cleanest I have ever seen. The traffic in Annecy is a nightmare in high season, but we only had to go through it at the beginning of the holiday and then again on our way home. Otherwise we were able to keep clear of it, especially since the site is at the far end of the lake. When we did visit the old town we arrived on bikes - very easy to hire cheaply. Many people seem to book into the site year after year, staying on the same pitches, and I can see why. Great location near (but not on) the lake and close to the cycle track to Annecy. 'Beaches' on the lake are close and pretty good since this is not a beach holiday area! You don't have to go far to find some fantastic walks in the area - a trip up La Sambuy on the chairlift is a must (unless you suffer from vertigo!) and the big mountains like Mt Blanc are accessible for day-trips. Our only problem was that the weather was a bit off in August and we had some big rainstorms and some pretty grey days. I am sure if the owner could have arranged a bit more sunshine for us he would have done! We are sure to return as there was still lots to do and it's such a beautiful area.
This is an excellent campsite. The wash facilities were clean and modern. The pool area also had a toddler pool and slide. Bread and pastries could be ordered the previous day for collection the next morning. A Laundry with washers and driers was available for (3-4 euros). The pitches were a good size and well spaced, however there had been a lot of rain when we were there and the ground did become muddy. Annecy is a picturesque town with lots of shopping, dining and traffic (allow an extra hour to travel through). The Bike track runs past the campsite to Annecy, we hired two bikes and a trailer for the morning for 11 euros. Great Campsite, we would consider returning.
What a lovely site! Stayed for 6 days and would have happily stayed longer.Stunning scenery. There was a pool and a small paddling pool. Also a slide which kept the children occupied for ages. There was also a games room with a TV I think, although we never actually used it. There was also a children's playground as well as a table-tennis table. The toilets were top notch - clean and modern. There was a small shop from which you could order croissants etc from for the next day, and it carried a limited stock of other food - orange juice, jam butter etc. From here it's a couple of hours' drive to Chamonix - Mont Blanc and the Glace de Mer - well worth the trip. Lovely lovely site - would definitely go there again.
This is an excellent small campsite at the southern end of Lake Annecy, about 5 minutes walk from the shore of the lake and right beside the cycle track that runs along the lake.
The site itself is very clean and tidy with excellent toilet and shower facilities. The owners take great care to ensure you are happy and were extremely accommodating, allowing us to pitch on their lawn for one night until a pitch became available the next day.
The swimming pool area is very nice with a water slide for the children but the water was a bit too cold for us, we prefered to swim in the warmer waters of the lake. There was a very good children's play area and an area where older children/teens could hang out without bothering anyone else too much.
The area around the site is excellent with lots of places to go within about a 30 mile radius, however, as others have said, the traffic in Annecy is a nightmare and it can take anything up to 2 hours to navigate your way through.
There is a small bar/fast food take away which also sells ice cream etc during the day. There is no restaurant on site but a couple of times a week different vendors set up stall and sell good takeaway food such as roast chicken, freshly made pizza and Paella just outside reception.
Altogether an excellent site which we will definitely return to one day.
Top notch site. When we were there the site was full but no problems with noise or anything else. Shop is extremely limited in stock and the take-away food menu is limited (that's putting it mildly). Only a 10 minute stroll down to the lake. Staff very friendly and helpful. Very relaxing site and can't recommend it enough. Traffic can be on the heavy side but worth the extra time as everything nearby is worth seeing. Geneva is only 28 miles away and Chamonix about 30 miles. One of my favourite holidays.
We visited in high season, and yes it was full, but it was really quiet, with all the small children in bed by 10pm!
Traffic was heavy, some nights it would take up to 2 hours to get through Annecy and out to the site.
Roads coming back from Chamonix of a night were just as bad.
But, we will definatly go back, but not in high season. Lake Annecy was a joy to swim in, in such hot temps (35 degrees)and the camp site sold the most wonderful icecreams at just 1€10 each.
Excellent restaurants in Annecy old town, a must to visit.
