 A (not so) little gem.

If you want electric hook ups, club houses, arcades, fish and chips, bars, entertainment and a night club then you may be a little disappointed, however if you want to go to a site, have acres of room around you where the kids can run around all day playing football, cricket, water fights, den building and fishing then you will not be.

Site:

The site consisted of three large fields with two fishing lakes dissecting each.

It is a fairly flat site but each field has a tree boundary and the field that we were in a had a small copse of trees that the kids used as a den.

Owners were extremely friendly and very relaxed. There are some rules such as Dogs do have to be kept on a lead at all time and no smoking near the farm buildings but as this is a working farm you can appreciate this.

Price:

We paid £10 for the pitch (large 6 man tent 2 adults 2 kids) and £1 for the dog so £22 for a two night stay!

Location:

It is a short hop to Southminster and a slightly longer hop to Burnham on Crouch but due to the size of the site it does feel like you are in the middle of nowhere - in a nice way.

Facilities:

Toilets/Showers 2x wc and showers clean and well maintained but consist of two WC’s as a male no problems with queuing however I think the females in our party struggled alittle at times

Chemical toilet Disposal

Three washing up sinks. These are situated in the ladies. The men will see this as plus point but the ladies may not.

Water point

Fridge and Freezer for ice blocks etc

Both the site and facilities were clean and well maintained.

There was one water point for the entire camp.

I originally wanted to say the facilities were basic but thinking about it they are not. We have been to another very popular site which has exactly the same extent of facilities (albeit on a larger scale) and EHU and paid more for one night there than we did for two here.

I am not sure what the long terms plans are for this site, if they keep it low key then what they have is more than adequate, however if the owners plan to expand and hope get it anywhere near to its potential capacity then the facilities would not cope perhaps they could could keep the facilities they have but put the same on each field. A wooden adventure playground for the younger kids would go down a storm and whilst I appreciate that this would raise the cost per night I for one would be prepared to pay more to come here.

Conclusion:

From a purely selfish point of view I was in two minds, do I recommend this site by posting a review for it or keep it a secret…….

I have given this site 10/10 as I did not expect to get what we did for the price we paid.

Everyone raves about the local and indeed it is a nice pretty pub, a very short walk from the site the food was excellent and well priced but if anyone has seen American Werewolf in London I felt like the American walking into that pub!

Spent 3 Nights here with the Wife, Her 2 Brothers, kid and dog. Site was great fishing fantastic toilets and showers clean.

The downside was the one of the showers in the mens was out of service, Parts of the field was uneven with dips. Other campers not following the rules of keeping dogs on a lead. One incident was that our dog got pinned down round the neck by another dog on site. I did complain a couple of times about but this seems to have not worked

This campsite is ideally situated in picturesque countryside. The owners were very friendly and could not have been more helpful and welcoming.

The toilet facilities were very clean, the site itself kept clean. The local public house serves up great food at reasonable prices.

I have been camping for over 20 years and have found this to be one of the friendliest sites i have been to.

Pitch sizes are nice and spacious and would certainly come back again. If you are after a site that is peaceful and set in farmland this would be highly recommended.

This site is a little beauty and value for money (£9 for the tent when we went). The owners are very friendly and the site is well laid out. There is a nice fishing lake for those who are interested, a little path around the site to walk and some bush/small forest areas. There are fresh eggs and some veggies at reception with an honesty box, a small play area for the kids to make new friends and now I believe a craft caravan. This site is situated near the lovely town of Burnham on Crouch, well worth a visit, even if just to walk along the river.

We have just returned from a weekend away at Boro Waters. Initially chosen as it is nearby and this particular weekend was not promising much weather wise so we could make a speedy return to the luxury of home. BUT the weather improved and we spent a very good weekend here.

The site is clean and welcoming. A selection of fields to choose from depending on how far you want to walk to the facilities. The owners were lovely and came round to the tents throughout our visit. We were able to pay on a daily basis pending the weather making its mind up (although on a busy weekend this may not be an option?)

The site facilities are clean and up to standard. There are separate male and female amenities including two showers and two toilets in each. There is also separate washing up facilities. Plenty of hot water in the showers although it was a fairly quiet weekend and again may be different during busy periods? There is a large fishing lake on site although we did not make use of this, but they are more than accommodating if you wanted to. There is a play area for kids and plenty of nature trails and general space for kids to tire themselves out.

We had plenty of room and other campers were quiet and pleasant. There is a lovely local pub within walking distant with very friendly hospitable staff. If you fancy a drive, there are lots of local marina's and quays to visit, giving you that 'beside the seaside' feel.

Overall a lovely weekend at a location we would definitely return to especially given the great price per night.

We absolutely love this place, so quiet but fantastic. The kids had a great time, they were able to ride around on bikes, and had endless hours of fun in a mini forest where they built a camp and so on. Farmer Tom and his Wife continue to make changes to this place and it gets better. Improved showers since last year, play equipment for the children, and a static caravan which I believe they are going to let the children use for arts and crafts. No electricity on the site, but with the glorious weather we had this weekend, didn't make a jot of difference. Can't wait to go back again.

With most of the family living in Kent and my wife and I living in Lowestoft, we have been looking for a site between the two for a bit of a get together and Boro Waters is the place! We were lucky to be able to arrive early for the August bank holiday weekend and were able to pitch close to the lake in a large open field. There are a number of fields to choose from, it is a very large campsite so a feeling of spaciousness even on the busy bank holiday weekend there was plenty of room. Which is just as well as we had grand children, children, sisters and brothers in law, our 7 aside cricket match beside our caravan did not get in the way of any other pitch, even with the impressive sixes daughter in law was hitting!

I am not a fisherman, but I am told the fishing is good and we did see fish being caught and one fish of 18 lbs being landed by a young lad.

Burnham on Crouch is only a few minutes away and is a really great place for a day out. The crabbing is great our grandson caught about 60 crabs in just over an hour. Not the place to go if it is a seaside town you want but well worth the visit.

The sites toilets and showers were very clean and well maintained but queues can form at busy times, they are also quite a way from the main site up a reasonably steep hill. No electric hook ups, a number of water points and an elsan disposal point. Very friendly owners and staff.

All in all a great site and we will return!

Stayed here for two nights bank holiday weekend.

We really liked the site as did the children. Great big hill for the kids to climb and lots of wood areas for them to make dens with the many friends they made the second they arrived.

The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Craft classed were being run for the children for £5 - two hour session. My daughter made a tie dye t-shirt and had a face paint. For 50p the children could pop to the petting zoo Sunday morning. These I thought were all a nice touch.

Down sides - The showers - first being that there was only two. So in order to hurry for others you literally had to dress outside of the shower cubicle. There was neither the room or the privacy to do this. The washing up area comes off of the ladies loos/showers. And it didn't matter how many times I closed the door (on behalf of the many half naked ladies!) people just in using the toilets just left it open.

The biggest problem with the showers was the temperature. One just ran freezing cold. The other changed between scalding and freezing!

There was a sign the next morning to apologise for the water pressure issues and that it was a problem that had occurred in the area. For me pressure was not the problem - it was the temperature. I couldn't shower the children for that reason. The mums tended to fill up a bowl and was the kiddies that way.

(the toilets/showers were always being checked on so were always clean and topped up with toilet paper)

We've just visited this site due to the excellent price of £9 per pitch, which nowadays is unheard of. My family consists of 2 adults and 2 boys 7yr and 4yrs, we would all highly recommend this site.

It is family run and all the family seem to be involved, with the 2 daughters running a petting zoo for 30p per child, the kids are then shown round their pets and get to feed the horses goats, see the chickens, guinea pigs, tortoises and then all get a fresh egg to try for breakfast. We've been told they'll be running a holiday club in August to entertain the kids.

If you like a site that hasn't been ruined by a club house and loads of room for your kids to play, this is the site for you.

My sons spent the weekend playing in the sandpit, building a den in the trees and climbing them. There is also a lake for fishing, which we didn't use. Theres a nearby horse riding school, which you need to pre book as it's busy.

Over the weekend I saw the toilets being cleaned 3 times and never saw them in a mess, they are basic but v.Clean which is what everyone wants.

Overall a very nice family run site with very friendly happy helpful owners, with the added bonus of being in a beautiful location.

Already booked to return :)

As this was the first time we took our kids camping (age - 9 & 4) we wanted somewhere that wasn't too far away and was reasonably priced. And we found it, as this great site is ideal as it is nice and safe, has beautiful surroundings and won't break the bank. It is a no frills site but has everything you need - lots of space, clean toilets/showers, the owners are very friendly, you have both southminster & Burnham on Crouch within a short drive & more importantly there's a pub within a 5 minute walk!

Highly recommended and we will visit again.
