I'm just back form here and I loved it. It was very quiet, I pitched at the far end of the the High Meadow and the views are spectacular.
Campfires - ah the smell of woodsmoke and bacon to waken you in the morning - bliss
Facilities were clean
Staff all very friendly
'eco' message very clear but in a friendly way.
Wash up facilities were great with lots of very hot water.
Recycling area was so good I only throw out a sandwich size bag of rubbish the rest got recycled - including eaten by chickens!
I imagine in high season the site might get very busy but now it's just lovely.
If you are looking for somewhere which feels like camping in the middle of nowhere but with the luxury of Toilets, showers, wash up facilities, internet access and a small shop - try this for size
The way campsites should be! Stayed here for 3 days, with a large group(around 40 in total). Hard to find fault with the site. We were all pitched in the lower field next the a large fire pit covered by an old parachute, which served as a good focal point for the group. The facilities on site, although limited in number, were very good and clean. The was a strong emphasis on recycling and many items were left by previous campers which could be re-used.
The owners were extremely friendly and never seem to lose their patience despite us having a horde of children with us. The site is located in a nice part of Scotland, which isn't too remote, but remote enough to feel as if you are away from it all (only an hour from the central belt). The site seems to be split into three areas; an upper field, a wooded area and a lower field near the shop and toilet facilities.
There is also a hostel on-site and meeting/function area. The shop seems to sell a strange collection of goods, you can also purchase free range eggs laid by the on-site chickens. The eggs I bought were still warm! The chickens also provided a lot of entertainment for the children and also added income for the owners as they sell the feed in the shop.
Overall all we had an excellent weekend and would not hesitate to return to this site or recommend it to others.
We were at this site for one night it was a short but lovely visit.
Lovely place, lovely people so friendly shop was great. Showers and toilets were extremely clean and beautiful. Surroundings so amazing. Will defo return.
It is one of the most relaxing and best places I have ever been too. My two year old nephew loved it as well and had fun feeding the chickens.
Was initially put off by the other reviews on this site, but was pleasantly surprised. Yes the road up to the site is rocky but if driven sensibly is fine.
The facilities were more than adequate, even having a computer to use if you can't drag yourself outside to see the fantastic location, great area to explore and the staff are very helpful.
Stayed here for one night on a tour of Scotland in the wettest week ever and had a fabulous time.
The firepits are a great idea, and will give kids something to do ie play in the woods and find firewood!
Visited this 'Eco' site at the beginning of August. Was met with a branded coffee machine and related cups in reception?
The toilets/showers were not cleaned once in our 2 night weekend stay and got progressively smellier. The brown towels deteriorated in a similar fashion, no paper towels because of the eco thing.
They do not allow you to drive or park you're vehicle next to your tent. Found this extremely inconvenient as I had a bad hip at the time. They did allow me to leave my small trailer (concession), but pushing it over 150 meters, backwards and forwards 3 times in the rain was both tedious and painful. This I hasten to add was on the lower field site, the tree sites would have been a nightmare up a mucky path.
This site was strangely disappointing. Although there are only about 8 pitches on the small ‘field’, and maybe 12 up in the woods, it didn’t have the feeling of a small, owner-run site. The lodge/bunkhouse accommodation is also on site – very busy when we there with some kind of conference/gathering. There was a different person at the shop/reception desk every time. Facilities are limited – three showers, two toilets, unfortunately always dirty as there was no way of cleaning up mud and grass after yourself, or even a mat to wipe feet on. Take your own towel if you want to dry your hands – the only things available were dirty, wet hand towels. Sheltered area at the side of the main building for pot washing, with dim lighting. As mentioned earlier, you can’t drive your car onto the field, you have to leave it in the car park below, and either wind through the rough, or talk a trip around by the paths. Two wheelbarrows are available to help!
On the positive side, we didn’t see a sign of midgies, even though every day was at least a little wet. The firepits are a great idea – we did foil-baked fish and veggies – and we’d go back for that alone. There is a large tarpaulin-covered area on the field, with benches and it’s own firepit, so you can always scoot in there if the weather is too bad. The view is nice and road noise minimal. If you don’t need to be near the facilities and don’t mind trekking up some muddy paths, there are nice private spots up in the wood. Oh, there are also chickens - great entertainment for wee ones.
Comrie itself is very small and doesn’t have much to see/do, but the chippie was recommended. Crieff is larger, with some interesting shops (and a good old fashioned sweetshop as well!). Perth is only half an hour away – recommend the swimming pool for all weathers, as it has a wee outdoor bit you can swim into from the indoor pool, as well as a splash pool for toddlers and a regular pool if you want to swim, rather than play.
We stayed one night at this campsite over a fine July weekend, using our own tent in the camping 'field' (rather than the pitches or pre-erected tents in the woods).
You can park next to the field, but cannot drive into it. This is not a problem, since the field occupies a small area. There are no marked pitches - you set up where there is space. Those who arrived later found themselves on sloping sections of the field. The ground is somewhat un-even, with stones below the surface. That said, we did manage to pitch our tent without problem and without resorting to rock-pegs.
The location is fabulous - open views of beautiful countryside. Though there is no playground for the children, my 3 and 7-yr old kids entertained themselves and had fun exploring the woodland walks, collecting firewood and playing around our tent.
The facilities were great: Despite the campsite being fully booked I did not once have to queue for the facilities. The showers were large with plenty of hot water. There is also a small on-site shop (which I did not use). A hot drinks vending machine is available around the clock.
Campfires and barbecues are allowed. Bags of firewood may be purchased at the site (for £5).
Summary: Great location, great facilities, space for kids to explore.
Downside: Some pitches slope, ground un-even. Kids may need entertainment after the first night.
Just back from comrie croft and have to say this site is fantastic.
We pitched in a woodland pitch but would have been equally happy to stay in the field with its communal covered fire/bbq as well as camp fires allowed next to your tent. The facilities are basic, two toilets & two showers but brilliant pressure and adjustable temperature, we didn't have any problems getting a shower. All toilets are stocked up with soap and towels and the dishwashing area had washing-up liquid and towels. They also had excellent recycling facilities as well as encouraging people to leave any unused/unwanted items for someone else.
The swimming pond was great and a brilliant place for the little ones to go pond dipping/ paddling and there was ample space for a run around in the tennis football area. Didn't check the in door play area as the weather was good when we were there. The staff were all friendly and extremely helpful although the shop didn't stock many provisions or gas.
While there we spent a day at Auchingarrich and loved it and a day in crieff at the park which was brilliant.
