Called in to Wild Camping with no prior booking and stayed one night. Good spot, very quiet, high hedges which give shelter from the very strong winds. The two showers (plenty of space and hot water), two toilets and two urinals were all very clean, as was the dishwashing lean-to. Only cold water in the latter, but just take a kettle full of hot from your van. There were only two other units there so we had plenty of spaces to choose from. Very pleasant owners who gave us a good price for the night. There are some electric points for those who need them.
Site has a choice of 3 fields, 1 has short grass, 2nd has grass cut around the edge and long in the middle and 3rd is just a field with longer grass with no hook ups.
The site has all the basic facilities, 2 toilets/urinals and 2 showers. The washing up area though undercover is cold water only.
As its on part of a working farm the facilities have an 'agricultural' feel about them and put together on the cheap.
There is plenty of space for children to play ball games without getting on peoples nerves and the site is a good base for exploring the Lizard/Mullion area.
Only gripe is it is called 'Wild Camping' but has premium prices! £9 per adult, £4 per child and £4 per hook up which given the basic facilities provided is expensive.
A lovely campsite, level, spacious and well kept. The facilities are kept very clean although there could be more of them ie another shower and toilet block. Personally I would like to see these divided by sex as I find it really annoying waiting to use the toilet or shower for someone doing their makeup. However there are mens urinals and there was always hot water for showers.
The washing up facility as very small (one sink) with cold water only, I would like to see that at least doubled with hot water. Hopeless trying to wash a greasy frying pan in cold water so we ended up doing all our washing up via boiling a kettle at our pitch.
There is plenty of space so no need to cram in the little field as the other 2 fields are massive. Having fires in fire pits is always lovely and wood is available on site. (to be fair we only stay on sites that allow fires) Fire blocks to support your fire pit and protect the grass are available free of charge.
No children’s play area so no noisy 'corner', however all the children ran around making their own amusements really happily, kite flying Frisbee etc.
I wouldn't call it 'wild' camping as it is certainly not that basic but it is 'unadorned' no shop, play area, bar etc and for that we are truly grateful. However useful fridges and freezers available and nice and quiet away from the main road too.
The surrounding area is stunning, the Lizard peninsula being so beautiful, great walking, superb beaches (Church cove got my boys vote), crystal clear water, wildlife abounds although not as many raptors as the part of Cornwall we live in.
Super market shopping in Helston, great fish shop (for your BBQ) in Cadgewith and terrific pasties from the St. Keverne bakery. Too much to see and do to list here. Falmouth National Maritime Museum great for a rainy day.
I'm sure we'll come back to this site soon and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to any other UKCampsiters
We popped in for a look at this site as we were staying in one we didn't like. We asked the owner Peter if we could have a look around and he said yes, we loved the look and feel of this site and had a funny and long chat with Peter before we left. We arrived the following morning and spoke to another camper who was just packing up for home, she said they loved their stay but go in the back field as one family in the front field had an annoying screaming child (she was not wrong there)
The toilets and showers are so clean and fresh, with some very bright toilet seats. There are 2 toilets and showers (uni-sex) and 2 mens urinals at the side. The single dish sink has no hot tap but just boil your kettle and bring a bowl. The toilet area has a French campsite feel to it and is in the small front field. The larger field is mown around the edge for camping and the grass left long in the middle.
The lovely Lizard point is about 3 miles away with free parking, gift shops and a fab greengrocers/ Butches. Just down the road from the site is a Cider farm and opposite that is the best tasting cream tea stop in Cornwall called Sue's cream teas, its down a farm track at the farm bungalow and Sue is very chatty and makes the scones etc each morning (indoor place to sit if its raining) Try to eat both scones with all the cream and jam, tea or coffee if you can, its one huge serving and at £3. 75 very cheap. The name Wild camping is a bit misleading so don't pass this one by, call in and enjoy your stay.
Very friendly site, nice and secure, sheltered (we had the hottest 2 weeks on record during our stay)
I stay on this site most weekends. I only live about 25 miles away, if your looking for a quiet and relaxing with no noise from neighbours. And people that are just out for a quiet tine this is made for you. Bbq's and a beer (no disco's ) come here great stuff. Most of the people I've met are looking for a nice quiet place to launch as a spring board to visit other places. This place is rich with history from WW11. Within a few miles there are bunkers gun pits Plus an aerodrome used during the second world war
With sea and countryside views, Tregarton Park is ideal for couples or families with younger children, given its relaxed seclusion and proximity to so many of Cornwall's fine safe sandy beaches. Large grass and hardstanding pitches with electric, divided by hedging and shrubs, perfect for tents and tourers. No statics! Superb toilet and shower block with large glass shower cubicles operated by motion sensors with ceiling mounted shower heads, laundry room, baby changing station.
This peaceful park is home to an outdoor heated swimming pool with waiter service, tennis court, adventure playground, outdoor football table, table tennis, pool table, large shop and take away service. FREE WiFi, dog walking meadow. Pentewan Beach is just five minutes away! Find out more here
Just had a week at wild camping in our folding camper. Although the name suggests wild camping, it's quite civilised really, the site has only two toilets and two showers but there were very rarely any people waiting to use them. The site has two fields for camping, both flat and the smaller one is as good as any garden lawn! Facilities are cleaned very regularly.
It is a busy working farm site though and is subject to the usual farm noises of cows, horses, chickens and tractors etc but I do not find these noises intrusive at all, there is no traffic noise at all as the site is about 100m from the Helston-Lizard road.
The location is ideal for exploring the Lizard peninsular, it's a 5 minute drive from the Lizzard village or ten minutes drive to Cadgwith cove, I did walk to cadgwith and it took me 50 minutes each way.
Our leisure battery failed on arrival and the owners allowed us to hook up for a recharge which was really good as we didn't book EHU and they only have a few points. Very helpful an friendly people. There are no specific child areas but as there is so much space you can pretty much do what you like!
Great friendly well run site. Its central for the surrounding places of interest.
Another double shower and 2 Loo's on the way which will provide more facilities during peak season. Its a quiet non regimented site, the kind I like.
The owners are great, when I arrived it was cold and the owner (Tricia) asked me if I needed any extra blankets.
Two fields with plenty of space.
I only stayed a week and found the folding places were the best places to visit. 1)Kynance cove and the associated coastal paths. On the route from Kyance to Lizard there is a great quite beach one down from Kyance cove. Its a large Beech and very quiet (probably because access is a walk away with no access by car).
2) Cadgwith, take the road highlighted for use by lorries, It will lead you to a carpark. The other road is very narrow. It's worth taking the boat trip with Nigel (the guy off the TV series and it's not expensive)
3) The Old Inn at Mullion (great food)
4) The coastal walk Lizard to Kynance or vice versa.
Stayed here while travelling around Cornwall, we were the only ones there - 2 fields plenty of room and electric hook up- all grass site/pitches, the facilities are basic - 1 shower 2 loos, but as we were the only ones there wasn't a problem, could be busy if several there.
Second visit there for us as we stayed last year in June and even then ony 1 other unit.
Good base for touring not much on site, but away from the road so quiet and with the hedges around the site its also quite sheltered.
We stayed in mid August a large tent, the weather was rain and wind at night, and sunny afternoons. Slept well because the field was quiet and very flat.
The site is set back 100 yrds from the road and the hedges worked well against the wind. We had a fire every night.
Lots to do and see in the Lizard, particularly walks and beaches. Most things are a short drive away. Costco was a couple of miles and sold most basics, and there were big 24 hr Tesco and Sainsbury's at Helston around 10 miles away.
Basic and clean facilities. The site felt safe for the family, well run and friendly.
