 We camped at South Lytchett Manor from 2nd to 8th July 2007, and this was our first whole week away in the tent. When we arrived we were very impressed by the imposing entrance. Checking in was very straightforward and we were given a map of the entire site and how we should pitch our tent. The shop/check-in is well stocked with fair prices too, even down to electric hook up units and tv aerial leads so if something had been left at home, it could be obtained in the site shop. The site itself is large and constitutes four areas. The first is the field on the left of the entrance, the second is the field on the right of the entrance, the third is the main driveway where most of the touring caravans are sited, the fourth is the field where we were sited and that is at the far end of the site and is called the Manoe Field. This has a gentle slope and caused problems for us as the weather was not good. It had rained a great deal before we arrived and it was very damp underfoot. There is a toilet block and vegetable prep area at this end of the field but this is in great need of refurbishment which I am assured is scheduled for this season. The main toilet block is "out of this world" and I have never seen such good facilities. They are new for the 2007 season and are kept spotlessly clean by the site staff. Also us campers are encouraged to mop out the shower areas when used and I did not see one instance when this did not happen. Pat on the back for us campers there! The area surrounding the site is lovely. It is not far from Poole and is used as a stop off for those who are off to camp in France. Wareham is just down the road and the RSPB protected area in Arne is a must complete with its Red Deer and Wild Rabbits. Wimborne Minster is a lovely little town and the abbey at Stapehill is worth a visit. Bigger attractions include the Tank Museum at Bovington and the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu. We stopped for lunch on our way at The Black Horse in Sturminster Marshall which is about 6 miles fro the site and we had excellent hospitality. A lovely week spoiled somewhat by inclement weather but the campsite and the welcome we had by Dave Joanne, Vern and Margaret is enough to brighten anybody's week. Thanks for a lovely week and the site is fantastic.

Big site, but didn't seen overcrowded - and we visited on bank holiday weekend.
We pitched away from the main two fields on edge of site - which meant we got woken up by cows in the nearby field.
Well equipped shop, good security, pleasant staff.
Would recommend.

Trying to find something to say that hasn't already been said.
The bottom field was a delight, much more prefereable to the rest of the site for us, which filled up with caravans very quickly. For most of our time at the site we just about had the bottom field to ourselves, like camping in a football pitch.
The staff were superb and the facilities are pretty good. The old toilet block at the bottom I understand will get replaced to bring it up to the excellent standard of the main block in the middle of the site.
We recommend the chip shop which is about 2 minutes drive from the site. Best cod and chips we have ever eaten.
Easy access to all the major resorts and there is a lovely walk from the campsite. Just go to the main entrance and keep turning left. Is about an hour around the block but very quiet and peaceful, not much traffic at all.
Will definitely be returning to the site, hopefully this year.

Visited site with friends for the weekend, and absolutely loved it! Have already booked to go back again.
Toilets and showers clean, plentiful and FREE! Staff very helpful and friendly. Nice little play area for the kids. Tent sites clean and appreciated recycling facilities.
Did not use surrounding area, went in car to Sandbanks beach and Studland beach ( both well worth the 20 min or so drive).
Can't wait to return!

Great campsite, the toilets and shower block were excellent, very clean. The staff were really helpful, even when we manged to trip out the campsite with our electric blow up mattress, (twice) sorry!There are lots of nice walks and plenty to do. We will be returning next year!

This was our first camping trip - ever - and we had such a great time. The site was great with really clean toilets/showers that were heated and brand new. The washing up facilities were also spotless. There's a small shop and the owners/managers were very friendly - helping us out with the EHU. The site is ideally situated for visits to local attractions - we went to Lulworth Cove and Knoll Gardens. The kid's area was fine and there was plenty of room to knock a football around. We would definitely return.

What a lovely site to stay at. The newly refurbished wash blocks are the best I have ever seen, very good, clean, light welcoming. We managed to luckily pick a quiet week, so had a whole area of the site to ourselves for most of the week. The pitches are well laid out, plenty of room for each. Water points are frequent and there is power for all (I think) pitches. Poole is a 5/10 minutes drive away for shopping (there's a convenient big ASDA) and a pub/restaurant with good food is a 10 minute walk down the road. All in highly recommended.

We had seen the details of the site and decided to take pot luck and booked for a few days end of May/ beg June. My sister and her family who are new to camping were joining us on the plot next door. Our first time with hook up and a much larger tent.
We had a fab time. The site Managers were great and very accommodating. The shop is very reasonably priced. The toilet block on the top field is great. Hot water and lashings of it!
The lower field has the old facilities and not so good.
I understand that in time, the top field will be for hook up tenters only. A second field acted as a permanent football pitch for my son and we totally lost him with his new friends for the holiday! bliss. A security barrier stops unwanted cars on site. The whole feel is secure and safe for the children. Even the robin who came into the tent at 6:00 in the morning was refreshing. We are booking again soon and would strongly recommend.
ps visit Upton Park just up the road. Free, loads of parking space, walks, lake, peacocks and a great assortment of wild birds that visit the feeders in the courtyard.

We visited this campsite last week with our 2 children and had such a fantastic time we can't wait to go back again!
The campsite seems very new. The staff were very friendly. We certainly had plenty of space on our pitch, and looked out onto a field full of cows! It was beautiful.
The toilet blocks (the important thing!) were very new and clean. There were 2 blocks within close proximity, one smaller than the other. There were plenty of showers and loos. There was even 2 parent/child rooms attached to the smaller of the shower blocks. In the larger of the shower blocks there was a parent/child room but it seemed a bit strange it didn't include a shower in the same room. It was great to hear music while showering, although for some reason there wasn't any music in the womens larger shower block.
The shop had a sufficient amount of provisions, and there were plenty of small shops within a short drive available.
There are lots of things to see and do in the area. We visited Brownsea Island, Corfe Castle, Lulworth Castle etc and would recommend these to everyone.
There were a couple of pubs in the village that were within walking distance, although we didn't eat there. We did eat at the Rose & Crown at the next village along and that was fine - nothing too exciting on the menu though! It would have been good if the campsite had a brochure of places to eat in the area.

This was our first camping trip and we were reassured by the friendly, welcoming owners (who did in fact come to check on us after 15 mins or so of signing in, which we were grateful for).
The site is excellent overall - the new toilet blocks/washing up area was second to none - including the piped in music! I think we have been spoiled for future camping trips!
The Breakfast Bar is recommended - very nice bacon bap!
The only concern we would raise was the water-logged field on which we were pitched. It is a known problem that the drainage on the field is not very good and as such, we think it definitely needs some thought as to how that could be improved or certain pitches not used.
That said, we will definitely be going back - it is highly recommended - the owners could not have been friendlier. The shop was well stocked and if the children's play areas were updated, it would made it an excellent site for any family to visit.
Well done to the new owners for all the work they have done so far! Hope to see you again soon!

This was our first camping trip and we were very impressed with the facilities. Our next campsite will have a lot to live up to!
Myself and two young children didn't queue once for a shower.
The weather was wet and muddy but everything was kept spotless.
We were camping in the overflow field as it was busy (bank holiday). The pitches were small and we were very close to our neighbours!
The staff were friendly and helpful though and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Lovely campsite!
We had an electric hook up pitch and I stayed with my eldest daughter for two nights.
The owners were very welcoming and friendly and there was a lovely family atmosphere here.
The pitch was smooth and flat and very close to all the facilities.
The washing up room was clean. The ladies shower room and toilet was luxurious.the shower cubicles were large and had a seperate area to keep your clothes dry. There are hair dryers which were brilliant and the toilets/shower rooms were cleaned on a regular basis.
A very well stocked shop where you can book your favorite newspaper.
Ten minutes walk away is a lovely little pub that serves excellent food, albeit on the pricey side it was well worth it for their Sunday roast.
Five miles drive from Poole where there is plenty to do and see.
I loved this place and will definitely be going again.

We spent a long day in April looking for a site to stay for the season, this site came out on top by far. The toilet block is second to none, and all the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The main difference for me was how accommodating the owners are, which was something I found rare when visiting other sites in the surrounding area. We have now been for three weekends and are looking forward to spending many weekends here this year and for years to come.

Wow – what an improvement! Been staying on this site for 6 years and had decided last year would be our last as the site was really old, tired and unloved. Our kids nagged us to retry under the new owners and we are so glad the we did – what a difference. Smiling, friendly owners, vast improvement to facilities and not a vast hike in price – brilliant!
If we can ask for just one thing though – please, please South Lytchett improve the kiddies play park, with over half a million pounds of investment spend 5-10K on a stonking central play area with a safety flooring (bark chips or the alike) would make such a difference to the quality of holiday offered to your younger campers. Well done though great start to achieving that top slot for Dorset.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at this site. The location is great for getting out and about and everyone connected with running the site is pleasant and helpful. Whilst some people felt the pitches were a little on the small side, for our 4 man tent they were fine. The new shower block is fantastic and the owners ensure the site is secure as possible with the coded barriers and by closing the gates at nights.
A few things let the site down over this week-end:
We stayed in the far field which is nice in that it's quiet and has a good 'campsite' feel to it. However, the nearest 'facilities' are old and desperately need updating. The owner did mention these were opened for emergency purposes due to the number of visitors they were expecting over the bank holiday. But, the site was not full and these facilities could not cope! Friday evening and all was fine, by Saturday night I was washing up with cold water in the dark, and avoiding 2 of the ladies toilets as they had packed-up. By Sunday morning there was little or no water coming through at the sinks and it was all cold. By contrast all week-end the water from the water points came out so fast, half of it watered the ground while the other half was on your clothes.
I hope the owners are planning a revamp for the 'emergency' facilities soon as this really is the only thing letting the site down.
