We stayed at this site for one night, as a stopover on our way further south.
We booked online directly with the site and had prompt confirmation of booking. The site was very easy to find, exiting the A71 at Junction 3. Reception gave us a very warm welcome, which was lovely after a long drive. We were allocated Pitch 63, a good size pitch, with plenty of shade. The toilet and shower blocks were a little dated, but very clean and there was plenty of hot water. Remember your loo roll though!
We didn't want to cook supper, so asked reception what our options were. They told us about a pizza van in the village next to the church, and gave us a map. A short five minute walk and we'd ordered our tea. Delicious, fresh and worth it! There is also the choice to eat at the cafe on site should you want to.
It was beautifully quiet at night and we woke refreshed and ready for our onward journey.
Very easy to find off the motorway and well signposted.
When we arrived on site we were given a lovely pitch opposite the children's play area. The site was very well laid out and lots of things for the kids to do. There was a big lake in the centre of the site and there was a small shop within reception. The sanitary facilities were clean and plentiful. Obviously a popular stopover site as when we got up in the morning the site was empty. Overall a great site and would stay for longer next time.
Visited end of August for a one night stop over on the way back from the South of France.
The site is approx 280miles from Calais. We arrived at about 4. 30 in the afternoon as had previously booked online before we left the UK. We were not required to pay online when booking, but we're told that the pitch would be released after 6.
We found the wardens to be very hospitable and very helpful. They spoke very good English. The site was not that busy, but could cater for over 160 units. The facilities were first class, very clean toilets and lovely warm powerful showers. The swimming pool is just off site, about 100m away with its own showers and changing rooms. While we were at the pool, we started to notice more caravans arriving, obviously a popular stop over.
The on site restaurant opened at 6. 30, it had a very simple menu at a very reasonable cost. This was ideal for us and very welcome.
I would highly recommend this site for a stop over or a longer stay. Also on the site was a large fishing lake, a children's playground and a little shop. The lovely village is only a couple of minute walk and had a few restaurants and bars and a mini supermarket. A large Carrefour supermarket was within 10m. The cost was 25 euro for the night.
We left in the morning at 11. 30 and got to Calais at 5. 30
My wife and I stayed here for 7 nights with our 16 year old and we all had a really relaxing time. The site was previously a municipal site and offers everything you need from a campsite. They told me the plans they have for this site and it sounds like it will only get better.
The staff on the site are very pleasant and provided us with useful information regarding the surrounding area and on our arrival Marie told me which areas of the lake fished best; and she was right.
The shower and toilet blocks that we used near the lake were spotless and cleaned regular by staff and also had separate men and women facilities. There was plenty of hot water at all times of the day and I never once had to queue to use the showers. There were also two other large toilet and shower blocks that looked like they had just been built and again these where spotlessly clean.
The campsite seems to be split into three areas with one area near the lake were we stayed, another field just behind which tended to house mainly tents but with a few caravans and an overnight area for those either returning or travelling further south. All the pitches seem very level and when we pulled up we only had to put the legs down and the caravan was level. There was also static chalets near the lake and these looked really clean and tidy.
The campsite is situated in walking distance of the town of Nouan Le Fuzellier were there was a Bar Tabac, boucherie, boulangerie and a small shop for and groceries. The chemist also spoke very good English. Salbris, 5 minutes from the site provides a large Intermache, restaurants, banks, etc. Outside the campsite is a municipal swimming pool that is free for people staying on the site.
The site provides a small room where there is a pool table, a small selection of children’s toys and where free WIFI can be accessed from. Near to the entrance is what I would describe as a large trampoline style play area for children to play on with ropes, etc to swing off. There are table tennis tables situated around the camp, but what caught my attention were the thrones and stools that had been cut out of tree trunks for the children to use.
The reason we came to this site was to allow me to spend some time fishing and I was not disappointed, with both my son and I catching double figure carp. The only down side is that there are not many fishing pegs close to the pitches – something Bill said he was going to sort out for next season.
What I liked most about this site was that the staff where really friendly with nothing being a trouble for Marie, Eric or Bill. Marie spent time discussing other sites that she thought we might like in other regions and Bill, who is English, spent over an hour with me, sharing his knowledge of the lake and making sure I caught some big fish. Bill also took me to his secret spot on the lake and we both spent time chatting whilst hand feeding double figure carp that came to the surface for bread.
On a down side – one night the overnight field must have got full and they came onto the lakeside field. With the Dutch pitching up ready to go immediately the next day, we did feel slightly hemmed in, but I feel this was more them being inconsiderate rather than the fault of the site staff.
Would I return to this site? – Yes, we will be going again in August.
Would I recommend this site? – Yes, I feel it can cater for all ages from young families to older people just wanting to relax.
We've stayed here a few times in the past on our way up and down, but we wont be staying here again, (especially now we have found the lovely little municipal down the road at Gracay).
Its nice enough, but way overpriced now, compared to the early days of staying here - we were charged 38 euros for one night!
It was also very, very crowded compared to what it used to be like, but was not noisy at night, although it was in the morning because loads of people left - some of them very early in their noisy motorhomes!
We've never seen the loo block at the top end of the lake open - they were very clean.
We did go to the pool and I enjoyed a walk around the lake with my dog, but as I said I will avoid this one in future.
Stopped off here for the night on our way to Limousin. Arrived at reception to find a long queue of other people also arriving, it seems very popular as a stopover.
I'd booked a pitch in advance but wasn't very happy with the pitch they tried to give us as it had a tree slap bang in the middle of it, still slightly confused how they expected us to pitch a trailer tent on it?
The lady on reception wasn't as friendly when I went back (and rejoined the queue) to ask for a different one but we got it sorted in the end but not really the welcome you're after when you've been travelling for 13 hours!
We made use of the municipal pool situated just outside the site which campsite guests can use for free and did have a bit of a giggle at the white hatted lifeguards (picture a beefy woman in a swimming costume that didn't leave anything to the imagination and a man in very tight speedos). It was well used by locals and campers alike and was a decent size pool with diving board and paddling pool with slide for small children.
We attempted to have a take away for tea, burgers and chips were on offer from the takeaway/restaurant at the site entrance. I sent the kids to buy it while I had a well deserved drink, they came back saying they'd been told to come back in half an hour as they were really busy, they went back and were told the same again so I ended up cooking something, something else I was hoping on not doing after such a long drive but I just needed to eat and sleep.
Toilet block was modern and clean. Hot water was plentiful, toilet roll provided.
A nice site with a few niggles. Don't think we'll bother again though.
We stopped for just one night on the way to the Dordogne and only arrived at 6pm following a long delay on the motorway. The site was lovely for our four children with a play area, trampoline, some rabbits as well as a games room and crazy golf. Shower block was clean and tidy and it had a small bath for the younger children. It will definitely be worth a longer stay at some point when we are heading south again.
My husband and I stayed at this site for 3 weeks in August. Very peaceful. There are 3shower/toilet blocks very clean, Laundry room and dish washing area. Very flat site, pitches large 100sq, mtrs Beautiful lake with fishing available. Play area for children, plus indoor games room with free facilities, WIFI, TV, New bikes for hire. Bar/restaurant, adjacent heated pool, tennis courts, easy reach of Chateaux. Vinyards wine tasting, present owners are very welcoming and have lots of ideas for future development. Will call again.
Stopped here for two nights while returning from southern France. Took the opportunity to have a day in Orleans which was about half an hour away.
The site was quiet with only a handful of the pitches being used which surprised us in mid-late August. Clearly this is used as a stopover site and is perfectly adequate for that. With access to two toilet/shower blocks, both deserted when we were there so no waiting! Facilities would benefit from a spruce up but clean and more than adequate. Very relaxed atmosphere, freedom to pitch where you wish on grassy pitches amongst mature trees. Lake on the site and swimming pool just by the entrance looked modern and clean.
Village centre only a couple of minutes walk away, with small supermarket, bakers, bars etc.
Friendly welcome at site reception and would use again.
