We were booked in for one week but left after two nights due to bad weather, not sure if we would have stayed any longer if the weather was nice though. The site itself is situated in a pine forest, so even if the sun is shining it seems very dark on the site.

The pool was tiny and our children didn't go in it. The pitch we were given was bit out of the way and we found a few dog poos next to it. The owners dogs do roam the site and may come in to your tent.

The toilet block was not the cleanest, the toilets smelt and the floor was hazardous due to mud after the rain fall. The bins were also over flowing and were attracting wasps. Overall it wasn't the best site we have been too.

Have just returned from a week's stay at Alpine Grove with mixed feeling's.

The site itself is based in a woodland setting, which sound's rustic and charming. Which it is, you can pitch up in the wood's if desired, or on the three grassed area's next to the wood's, there are hard standing's for caravan's too.

The fact that this site is based in the wood's also work's against it too, we had a lot of rain during our stay, because the site is well shaded by all the tree's, tent's took a lot longer to dry out, mud was in abundance around the children's play area which also meant our kid's were bringing the wood's into our tent too. Being such a shady site slowed the drying and draining of all the wet weather we had making life on site a damp affair long after the rain had stopped.

The shower block struggled with the high season demands too. Sewage odour was quite strong in the afternoon's and one of the men's urinal's kept overflowing soaking the floor on a daily basis. The shower's themselves were fine and clean with plenty of hot water.

The owner's of the site were very friendly and helpful. The shop was well stocked with children's toy's and camping good's, wet weather gear is available too.The local bacon, sausages and free range egg's they sell were wonderful and highly recommended. The small pool was a welcome sun trap which we used when it warmed up, our kid's had a wonderful afternoon splashing around.

They had a local charity barbecue on the site which was a great way to meet your neighbour's.

A local fish and chip van visits the site on Tuesday's too, very nice fish and fairly priced too.

It's about a twenty five minute drive to Lyme Regis and Charmouth seaside resort's. Charmouth is great for fossil hunting and has a stunning back drop of cliff's and meadow's adding to the beauty.

Lyme Regis has a large beach which is mainly pebbly but has a sandy stretch near the harbour. It has plenty of shop's and pub's to keep you amused if you can stray from the beach.

Due to the un-reliability of the English summer weather, we wont return to Alpine Grove, but that is just our personal choice. If you do book up and get good weather, the site will reward you with a wonderful time, where you wont get too hot due to the dapple shade, your children (if you have them) can play in and out of the wood's and the small play park without getting burned too easily too.

A really great site and we arrived to a nice friendly welcome.

The pitches are flat and nicely spaced out. The toilets were always clean and we never had to queue.

This site is very dog/child friendly. There is a modern playground and trampoline to keep the kids quiet or they can explore the woodland area. (includes WW2 pillbox!) The outdoor heated swimming pool seems very popular to.

The good thing about this site is that you can rent fire-pits! Makes the camping experience that much better to be able to sit round a fire and toast marshmallows!

We will be returning to this site again.

Booked this site as had problems trying to get in anywhere for halfterm, so glad we did! Fantastic small site about 45 pitches, clean modern toilets, showers.

Playpark which included a trampoline, small but very warm outdoor pool. We were pitched up in the woods which was nice and secluded although I think if we return I will ask to be in the main area, I like to people watch, had a small fire in the barbeque after eating each night with wood gathered from around the site.

Whilst there we visited Lyme Regis about 20mins away and ate at the River cottage canteen in Axminster, which was delightful and to my surprise very cheap!

Overall its a lovely site, lots of children around but the noise completely dropped off by 10 ish.

Beautiful site, smaller than expected upon arrival, greeted by kind staff, shown to pitch and was offered to cut some bushes back to get onto pitch.

Very nice swimming pool, great heat. The toilets were great and showers perfect. Apart from some strange porcelain thing sticking out by urinals which our toddler walked into. Nice little shop selling some basics with a smile.

Great site to walk around and great little park.

Now the only bad points, owner dog's not on lead, and one of them entering our awning and lucky to get out as our GSD doesn't take kindly to uninvited guests. And there seemed a bit of dog poo about when we arrived, might be other camper or owners dog's?

I would advise you pick up the signs for site and head out towards cricket St Thomas as the roads are better this way, and no speed bumps.

Would go back for a weekend or two.

Chard has a nice little town centre to walk around with all the town shops you'd expect, with a 24 hr tesco and cricket St Thomas not to far away.

Situated in woodland approx 2 miles from Chard with shop on site.

Some traffic noise from 1 road bordering site. Poor or no signal for TV dependant on where you were on site.

Feel site is geared towards family campers (with dogs)Site was occasionally noisy at times.

Found a friendly pub a brisk half an hours walk away using nearby lane and there is a

Supermarket in Chard.

Visited Axminster, Charmouth etc on South coast a short drive away.

The site is quite level and pitches are beneath tall cedar trees in a beautiful and tranquil setting. The owners have done their very best here to make your stay enjoyable, with a modern and clean toilet and shower block and outside washing up area, also there is a free heated outdoor swimming pool on site and not to mention a very good play area for the children including a trampoline.

The site is located approx 2 miles from Chard when the usual big supermarket chains can be found and only a modest drive to the coast.

Alpine grove is high on our list of 'must return to' sites.

A fab campsite, clean and tidy shower block. Alpine grove is within easy reach of the Dorset and Devon Jurassic coast, but nestled away from the tourist mob.

The site boast a wooded glad feel with kids play ground and a small warm pool in a sun trap next to the shop.

Our stay with Richard was an ideal weekend break, and the rental of a fire pit made the evenings cooking and socialising a bit more fun than usual.

Overall a great site that we'll be recommending and visiting again.

The location of this site is brilliant, in woodland with surrounding farmland. The closest town is Chard a couple of miles away. The town centre is basic but there is a supermarket for your essentials.

The site owners are very welcoming and helpful. The facilities were amazing, toilets and showers were very clean. It also has laundry and washing up facilities.

There is a pool, children’s play area, a woodland walk for a short dog trip and a shop on site. There are also pitches with electric hook-up points available.

My wife and I recommend this site. She loved it.

Just returned from Bank Holiday weekend at Alpine Grove. Have nothing but praise for site and the most helpful owners. Excellent location, site facilities splendid. Showers were lovely and hot (after initial problem when we arrived). Richard couldn't have been more obliging.

Plenty of space for all size tents. Play area great for kids as was the extremely well heated pool. Shop adequate for our needs.

Visited Lyme Regis, Pecorama at Beer (lovely little resort), Fleet Air Arm Museum (it was horrible and wet so looked for indoor activity) - we all enjoyed that! So much to do in locality and not enough time.

We will definitely return and this time for a longer stay.

Just visited this site for the first time complete with kids (5 and 8yrs) and 2 dogs. Very friendly, helpful greeting by owner and beautiful setting.

The kids absolutely loved this site and said it was the best they had visited. The play equipment was fantastic and I didn't really see them for two days they were having so much fun.

The only downside would be the very cold toilet / shower block. One day it was colder in there than it was outside. I couldn't really get hot water for a shower either - it was cold when we visited so a hot shower would have been lovely. However I don't think this will be an issue in the summer.

We would definitely return as kids and dogs loved it and it is a very friendly, relaxing beautiful site.

Just returned from a fab weekend at Alpine Grove. Run by a lovely family (and dogs!) who gave us lots of advice on what to do with our little one.

The playpark was a massive hit with our son, especially the trampoline, and it was right outside our van so we could watch him from there.

Lovely, clean site that is well looked after.

Clean, hot showers. Although the block is not heated so was very cold when getting dried and dressed.

Pool looks lovely but not open until last Bank Holiday in May, we will probably be back to try it out!

Very close to lots of attractions, walks, seaside etc unfortunately Cricket St Thomas was closed but there was plenty of other things to do - definitely recommend Pecorama for kids.

Woodland setting lovely but there was a bit of noise from the road during the day.

A lovely stay and we would definitely return, may even take more family with us as they can stay in the log cabins.

Very pretty site - fairly easy to find, even with a tourer. Set in countryside/woodland near Chard with all amenities (Chard isn't my cup of tea but has everything you would need. The site isn't far but is very removed in countryside) with very friendly and helpful owners with nice children and dogs. Little shop, small heated outdoor swimming pool (although weather only allowed us to go in once, nevermind!) which has an adults hour in the mornings. Fire pits for rent. Toilet block fine - showers fine (varying hot and cold at times but not an issue in August temps). Ideal place for kids and dogs - nice play area for kids and some wooded areas for dog walks. Pub 5 minute drive away. It was great at night hearing the owls. Our only problem was when it was windy at night the top of the caravan was pelted with acorns hence lack of sleep. On saying that, it was such a pretty site I can forgive nature for keeping me awake!

We did so much whilst there. Things we enjoyed were: Charmouth fossil hunting (no luck!), Lyme Regis, River Cottage Sunday Lunch and tour, Illminster (try the Radpoot Indian Restaurant - excellent value, lovely food and deals on on a Wednesday ve and lunchtimes), boat trip to Brixham with Stuart Lines (£12 I think)from Exmouth (or you can get off at Torquay instead - glad we chose Brixham - very nice, we had freshly caught mackeral for lunch). We even saw dolphins!; West Somerset Steam Train from near Taunton to Minehead (get a Rover to hop on and off enroute, think it cost £14); Beer (that's a place!) - very beautiful! There are stone quarry caves there too but we didn't have time to visit unfortunately); Seaton Trams (aprox £8) - stops at Colyton and Colyford - very quirky experience; Cheddar Gorge is a MUST, its quite something - tickets are about £16 and include entrance to caves (interesting), tour bus, prehistory museum, lookout tower and brilliant cliff top walk (it took us 2 and a half hours and is strenuous and steep in some places - wear trainers or walking boots and take water). The views were amazing. Cheddar is a lovely place; Perry's Cider Mill in Dowlish Wake (free cider sampling! ofcourse we ended up buying some!). We had a lovely holiday - the caravan site is lovely, I would return! Any questions about any of the above let me know! Happy holidaying.

This was our second trip to Alpine grove, after a weekend break in June we decided to return for a week in the summer holidays. If you do as we did and book and pay in full for your return visit you receive a 10% discount on the total cost, which adds to what is already a reasonably priced site.

The on-site facilities are excellent with very clean toilets and showers. The on-site shop is fairly well stocked and reasonably priced (batteries were cheaper on-site than in the local convenience store). They sell local sausages (delicious), bacon, burgers and eggs also fresh bread and milk daily. There is a laundry and family bathroom available at an extra cost. The heated outdoor pool is quite small but very nice with all children having to be supervised by an adult (good idea). The play area is well equipped and all of the children seemed to enjoy it, this closes at dusk (another good idea). Calor and Campingaz exchange is also available. Limited firepit packages are available for hire with wood, kindling, grill forks, sausages and marshmallows. We did this both nights on our weekend break but at £15.00 a go was a bit on the dear side. On our return visit we brought our own firepit and the owner was more than happy for us to use this and any wood we could forage (responcibly).

There are two totally different areas on which to pitch. The main camping field with EHU’s and some hard standing, and the woods with lots of space and a chance to escape the crowds. On both of our visits we chose to camp in the woods as this suits our style of camping, and we really enjoyed both visits. After heavy rain the week before our trip, The wooded pitches remained damp all week with some areas very boggy. This has to be expected in woodland so bring your wellies and jump in.

Out and about There are a couple of pubs within walking distance, Ye olde poppe inn is a bit further (a five minute drive) but we found the food and service to be excellent and well worth a visit. Chard is also a five minute drive and is good for stocking up on supplies. A bit further afield Lyme Regis and Charmouth offer good pebble beaches and fossil hunting which we all enjoyed. Charmouth offers a better chance to park as Lyme Regis was a nightmare to try to find a space, arrive early(before 9.00am) was the advice I was given ( little too late).

All in all a nice site with friendly owners set in a lovely part of the country. Highly recommended !

What a lovely site! This is camping as it should be! Pitching amongst the trees, unlit walks to the toilets after dark (though the toilet block is lit, you just need a torch to light your way there!), kids playing in the forest making dens, etc and to top it all, sausages and marshmallows huddled round a fire after a lovely day out. What more could you ask for?!

Staff are very friendly and helpful; we even borrowed an electric hook-up extension lead for a £20 deposit which we got back on leaving. Although we arrived after 40 hours of solid rain, the ground dried up quite quickly.

There's loads to do in the local area and beyond and the site itself is heaven for kids, though not in a commercialised way. Our 4 year old loved it! It is definitely a family orientated site, but it never seemed too noisy and all was quiet by around 9.30pm.

If you're looking for a site where you really do feel like you're getting back to nature but still have home comforts (clean, hot showers, launderette, little shop, etc), this is definitely one for you. Enjoy!
