We camped here in September, just out of season, for 3 very rainy, grey and misty nights. 2 of us in a tent. One of the few open in this area we could find at this time of year.
Nice pubs nearby, a easy 10/15 minute walk. Easy access to nearby attractions such as the minack theatre and lands end.
Also happy for you to have a camp fire, and there are water points strategically placed.
Just a small warning, there is a small nearby airport, which meant on the one sunny morning we had, there were a few low flying small aircraft coming in to land/take off, though this wasn't too early, and I wouldn't let it put you off.
All in all, the facilities were very clean, and you can swap your cool blocks in the office. In fact they even let us borrow some of theirs whilst ours were chilling. All they ask is you make a small donation to the air ambulance.
Decent laundry facilities if you want, no need for powder as its automatically built in. Some board games available if you'd like to use them.
Though we didn't use it, if you've got kids there was a playground opposite the shops with a few swings and a climbing frame etc.
Good value for money, it was £6. 50 per person per night.
Also, just so you know you need 20p pieces for 4 minutes in the shower. Top tip, if you see someone has already used one of the showers (look for water on the cubicle wall), use that one, as it will warm up almost straight away, as opposed to having to wait 30seconds. However the showers were clean, efficient and hot.
Most of all, the man who runs the place (Francis) is extremely friendly, helpful and informative. A good source of information for the local area.
Arrived on Saturday 3rd August, met by the owner who showed us to our pitch which was great for our Vango Diablo, plenty of room.
I will cut to the chase now, this site is beautifully clean, the toilets are some of the best I've ever used, immaculate would be the word I would use.
Newspapers daily if ordered, shop for essentials and St. Just is a mile away for groceries, pubs and a Chinese takeaway which was also good.
Childrens play area is great, never saw my nephew who is 10, he was off all the time and all within view of the tent.
Francis the owner works so hard to make sure his site is immaculate and its a credit to him.
I'm going back next year, now I've found a great site I'm staying with it.
Will remember this holiday, not just for the extreme weather (the week of the Queens Jubilee - high winds and rain!) but mainly because of the kind way we were dealt with by Francis and his team.
Unfortunately, unlike most tents in the field, ours didn't seem to be up to the challenge! We arrived back at the campsite at dusk to find the staff out in the wind and rain trying to secure our tent and retrieve our belongings which were scattered everywhere. Then they parked two tractors to the front and side of our tent to act as a windbreak.
With the prediction of even worse weather to come that night and with two young children we decided to evacuate the tent and head for a B&B, but Francis offered us one of his static caravans for the night. After making sure we were settled in (he even lit the fire for us!), he then went to check that all the other campers we okay. Bigger corporate campsites would have charged us for setting foot in one of their caravans but the next day when we tried to settle up he said not to worry about it, as it was in between lets, so no skin off his nose.
I don't usually post on review sites but I thought this was certainly worth reviewing, as not only was it a lovely site in a beautiful part of the country, but the attitude of Francis and his staff was amazing, so a big thank you to them all.
We only stayed for 2 nights during last winter but we really liked the site, Billy and Francis are friendly and helpful and although the main facilities block was closed the bit we used was clean.
The site is in a quiet lane about 15 minutes walk from St Just village (Billy explained about the Short cut avoiding the road) and there are numerous lanes and footpaths for accessing the coast path etc.
Must be the most friendly site I've been on in a really secluded location, in a valley with a feeling of being at one with nature. The coastal path is about a 20 min. Walk away via the delightful Cot valley. There is an infrequent bus service(especially during winter months) to St Just and beyond. Especially liked The Star pub in St Just with its quality real ales and granite walls and there are another three pubs in the village also! Lands End airport can be walked to in 20 mins. Using the footpath to the rear of the campsite which is quite useful for a visit to the Ises of Scilly. Toilets/showers fairly good, clean and functional.
We have just returned from a great campsite and I promised Billy I would leave a good review! Kelynack is such a relaxing, sheltered spot quite close to the coast near to St Just. The team there are very friendly and helpful.
There were plenty of spaces so we had plenty of choice re pitch. The facilities are very well maintained and clean. Lots of hot water for washing up. 20p per 4 mins in the shower with free hairdryer! £4. 00 for use of washing machine ( extra for dryer. )
Great Laundry room with large sink for hand washing and a washing line outside. There is a shop for basics. And icecream!
We were able to borrow maps, a dustpan and brush, refreeze freezies and recharge batteries, . All very helpful. Hook ups available. A lovely natural site with a play area for children.
For those who don't have their own tent/van there are new self catering, en suite rooms in a beautiful barn. Breakfasts can also be provided.
We walked from the camp to the coast and followed the coastal path to Cape Cornwall, stunning! Lots of other places to explore and Lands End Airport with flights to Scilly Isles very close by.
St Just can be reached in 15 mins via a footpath. Lovely friendly place. Try Kings Arms, great food, 'Proper Job' ale. An entertaining 'Open mike' night on Sundays.
Don't miss Cook Book, a great cafe/book shop. St Just has several interesting galleries and fascinating junk /bygones shops. Co-op open till 10pm. Fish and Chip shop/cafe Mon-Sat till 8pmish.
Sennen and Lamorna Cove a few miles away, Penzance and St Ives a little further. Parking in St Ives is very difficult! We loved Yew Tree Gallery 4 miles from St Just at Morvah
Lots more we didn't see/do so we will return to Kelynack, its 'just' right!
It is a lovely site tucked away in the Cot Valley.
Friendly welcome and we were well looked after all week if we had any queries or problems.
Our 2 luxury Static Caravans were very comfortable and well equipped and suited all age groups in our party from 11yrs up to 80.
Laundry facilities were good but with only one machine available you have to pick your time. Small shop well stocked (lovely fresh eggs in particular).
It is only a mile or so to walk into St Just if you don't feel like cooking yourself.
This is a lovely little site in a small valley just a couple of miles south of St Just in the far west of Cornwall, not far from Lands End. The area is quite remote and there aren't any pubs in walking distance. There is a bus to St Just and Penzance which passes the site and is useful if you are walking the coast path (as I did), although check the timetable as it doesn't go very often.
For a site of it's size it has very good facilities, with a shop (open 8-10am and 5-7pm when I was there) and I think the owner will open it up outside these hours too if you need anything - the owners are very friendly and helpful.
The toilets and showers were kept clean and of a good standard. The shower cubicles were large with plenty of space to hang your clothes out of the way of the water. The only downside is the 20p charge, but the owner helpful changed money for me when I arrived so I had enough coins. There is also a laundry area. The location is sheltered which was useful as it was wet and windy most of the time I was there.
The site consists of one field of static caravans, a large field for tents and touring caravans and I think a third field nearer the road just for tents.
I took a day trip to the Isles of Scilly from Lands End Airport and it is very convenient for the site, being no more than 5 minutes drive. Although the site is close to the airport the planes only run from around 8:30am to 7pm so won't disturb you at night.
The only negative is the fixed pitches system, where you are allocated a numbered pitch on arrival. This means you can't choose where you pitch (although I expect if it's quiet and there is space you could ask to move) and also means the ground doesn't get a chance to recover so the pitches aren't in great condition.
We stayed here for a week just before the school holidays purely to visit the Minack Theatre.
The site is lovely with extremely helpful and friendly staff. Reception doubled as a small shop selling essentials but also stocked a small supply of books, etc.
Facilities were extremely well kept and very clean. Couldn't fault a thing. 20p for a guaranteed hot shower was perfectly acceptable.
We booked a pitch with a EHU, which was spacious and well situated.
Great site which I would highly recommend to someone wanting a nice quiet campsite within easy reach of all the SW has to offer.
The only reason I haven't scored it 10/10 across the board is that the nearest beach and pub were further than I thought. A drive rather than a walk.
