Lovely little campsite about 3.5 miles from lands End and 1.5 miles from St Just.
Campsite caters for statics, touring caravans, campervans and tents.
Campsite is level and flat, it rained very heavily for most of the week but the ground remained very well drained.
Campsite is well sheltered from surrounding tree's and the natural valley its nestled in.
Facilities include on-site sandwich van for early morning breakfast, didn't try it but heard good reports. Shower block for male and female, 20p for four minutes. Could do with some plastic mats down or something, the stone floor is very cold underfoot. Showers were always clean as were the toilets.
Next to the toilet block was the washing machine room, £4 for one wash but you can fit a lot in. Also next to this was the washing basins, 3 in total and hot water was free.
Apart from a couple of nights the 10.15 no noise curfew was kept.
The owner is very informative, he makes sure you are ok once you have pitched and comes round the site to make sure you are ok several times a day. He as a little shop which stocks the basics at reasonable prices, we were able to use the freezer to freeze our freezer blocks, donations are taken for the air ambulance for this service.
St Just is a small village about 20mins walk from the site across the fields. 4 pubs a small COOP, galleries, post office and butcher can be found here.
Penzance is about 9 miles away, Morrissons and tesco's for bigger shops can be found here. Nice town really, all the major banks and shops are here as well as a nice harbour and sea front walks.
I would recommend this site for famillies and couples alike looking for a peaceful location although you do get a bit of noise from the local airfield from the planes landing and taking off but after a while you get used to it.
This is a small, sheltered, family run, friendly site with good basic facilities. This time I stayed in the Bunkbarn but as I usually stay in a tent I looked at it from that perspective.
The Bunkbarn takes 10 people in small, comfortable rooms and has one bathroom with fixed head shower, toilet and handbasin. There is a well equipped kitchen where you would need to take turns at cooking with 10 people; my only criticism is the lack of food storage space, as it would be easy to put up shelves. Overall this is very good value at £12 a night all year round. (Booking is essential at holiday times). We came by public transport and lifts to and from the bus were included if pre-booked.
For tents most sites had a slight slope although there were some level areas. The toilets and ample showers, at 20p a time, were clean; the excellent laundry room had a washing machine with automatic washing powder included , a sink for hand washing with a free spin drier and an airer. There was also a 2 1/2 inch map and tourist information. Outside were two rotary clothes lines with pegs.
Other facilities included a pleasant children's play area and a shop with essentials open morning and late afternoon (and at other times on request).
A few yards down the road you can buy fresh garden fruit and vegetables. A mile away by footpath or road is the village of St. Just with a Co-op open till 10pm and a butcher's, baker's, hotel, fish and chip shop, library and tourist information.
There is a very infrequent bus service past the site and a more frequent one mile away in St Just.
This is an excellent centre for walking, visiting both ancient and recent historic sites, surfing , or just enjoying lovely little villages and great coastal and heathland scenery.
We have just returned from a weeks stay at this site and can honestly say we will return again soon.
The site is lovely and quiet with ample facilities. The owners have really thought of everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I am a really fussy camper and don't tend to like using the toilet and shower facilities but I had no issues at this site. There are 3 toilets in each of the ladies and gents and 4 showers in each plus a family / disabled unit which had a shower, sink and toilet all in one room. There is a charge of 20p for a 4 minute shower but we did not mind paying this as the showers were always very clean with hot water and you never had to queue!
There is also a laundry room where a wash (incl detergent and softener) costs £4 and the dryer costs 50p. There is a separate spinner and ironing board (I don't think there was any charge for these)
There are also 3 sinks, bowls and drainers for you to use when washing pots. This area again is also kept very clean and there is ample hot water.
For the kiddies there is a little play area but as we visited when kids were still at school this did not get much use but one camper who had a little boy with her told us the owner made a real fuss of him by showing him his tractors etc. They also have donkeys on this site which the kids seem to like.
The owner Francis is very helpful and answered any questions we had even though he was always very busy. The site has lovely gardens and Francis spent much of his time tending to them to keep them as nice as possible. When he mowed the lawn he also collected the grass which many sites fail to do so you end up walking lots of grass in your tent.
The site has a little shop which is open a couple of times a day which sells the basics. Francis also takes newspaper orders and ensures he has them for you for when the shop opens first thing - a nice little touch!
The surrounding area of this site is lovely. We used to wander off for walks in every direction and came across something new every day. We enjoyed walking to Cot Valley which took approx 30 mins and Cape Cornwall which took a bit longer.
If you want to use the car there are plenty of nice beaches to visit. We had dogs with us so were limited to which ones we could use in the day but after 7pm you are allowed on any beach so Sennen Cove was our preferred beach for evening walks but in the day we loved Gwenver beach. The access was a bit hairy as you had to walk your way down from quite a height but it was well worth it but I would advise the walk back up is not for the faint hearted and does leave you a bit shattered to say the least!
St Just which is approx 1 mile away is a lovely little village with a few pubs, a Co-op supermarket, a couple of pastry shops, a butcher and a chippy and a few other things. You could get all the essentials here without having to go in to Penzance.
To summarise, this was a fantastic holiday which was definitely made better by the owners going the extra mile all the time. Other sites could definitely learn a lot from these guys!
Nothing too much trouble for the owners, small shop is open twice a day, 8.30 to 10 and 5.30 to 6 (I think) selling basic necessities, can order newspapers which can be picked up in shop.
Hot food stall is open 8 to 10am each day for bacon butties etc and also opens some evenings with hot meals like lasagne, chilli etc, we didn't try it but it smelt good
Facilities were more than adequate and well cleaned each day.
Large washing machine available (£4 to use which include detergent and softener) plus tumble dryer @ 50p.
Has small children's play area with swings, see saw and slide plus small stream to paddle/play in.
15 mins plus walk (uphill?) or 5 min car ride to St Just which has shops, bakers, butchers, fish and chips and pubs (Don't miss the Monday night folk fiddly dee in the Star Inn, cracking night)
In short couldn't really find anything to complain about, it was the sort of site we like.
Very friendly, family orientated site, relaxed atmosphere, great local nature walks. Cycling for the kids wasn't great because of the narrow lanes. Sennen cove is a fantastic beach less than 4 miles away.
The only thing that spoilt our stay was the grim British weather!
The site has an industrial washing machine and tumble drier, (£5ish for washing and drying) which we use quite frequently!
Would visit again when the children are a bit more confident on their bikes, I'd rather not have to use the car when we get there.
After risking a late september camping trip in Cornwall, and being caught out by inclement weather, this site provided us with 2 wonderful warm and dry nights in a static. The owner was so welcoming and friendly. All gas etc was included in the price, and I was surprised that she let us have the caravan for just 2 nights in order to fit in with our touring plans - I had always thought that static hire normally ran over a full week. St Just is great, and only a mile away (the Star Inn is fantastic, and closest to this site). Amazing coast walks in either direction, and Sennen beach looked amazing. We didn't see many other campers as we had our own facilities, but it seemed a relaxed and friendly site. I don't think there was much for kids. The facilities I did see seemed fine, and there was a small shop. The open top bus from St Ives is a must.
Lovely small to medium sized campsite. The owners were so friendly and thoughtful and seemed to know everyone by name including the children. Spotlessly clean with good facilities. Nice small playground that our son loved. Even has donkeys, one of which foaled while we were there. Has a little shop for all the basics. It's a mile to St. Just which has good food, pubs, shops and galleries. Perfect.
Found site with no problem. Warm Welcome by owner at reception. Has small shop selling basic food, gas etc. Toilets modern and clean but 20p for shower(4 mins). Were in a small side field were there was a strong smell of drains. Later found out owner had a slurry tanker which was taking overflow from septic tank. Found it one day overflowing onto grass. They need to get this sorted if I am to visit this site again. Sold bacon rolls some mornings for 1 pound. If you do go make sure you are in the main field.
Had a wonderful week here. Lovely tranquil family site. Good facilities though fairly simple. The toilets were kept clean and didn't get too crowded. We especially appreciated the family shower rooms. You do have to pay for showers, but the site is very reasonably priced and you do not need to pay for ice-block freezing. Owners very pleasant, and site well kept.
St. Just is a fairly small town, but has a Co-op and pubs and takeaways. If you want a larger supermarket the Tesco at Penzance is open 24 hours.
The beach at Sennen is fantastic. Lovely sand, beautiful scenery, enough people around, but plenty of space. Good surf while we were there. Get there fairly early in the morning if you want to park at the bottom, or it's a bit of a trek from the car park at the top.
