Me and my friends stayed here and it was a great experience
Cheap and cheerful
Close to town
Amenities good
They allow camp fires as well
Will for sure stay here again
Nice and friendly owners as well they came round with fire wood every so often so we never ran short. Toilets and shower in good condition with no queuing.
Would highly recommend this site to anyone couples or groups.
Got here on Saturday afternoon. Paid at the farm house and was directed to the field and loos.
Its a lovely place. A little rustic. 3 loos. Male, Female and disabled and a shower. Never had to queue though.
They even came round with wood at a very reasonable price, nearly half what the same sized bag cost us at Asda. No official pack up time and no curfews or 'be silent' time.
Great place in a great location. Going back very soon.
We stayed here for 3 nights, after reading the reviews was a little cautious and considered cancelling, but decided to give the site the benefit of the doubt and arrived with an open mind. The site is on a working farm and upon arrival we were greeted by the farmers son who offered to move around some of the caravans on site to enable all people in our group to pitch next to each other. We were allowed camp fires and thoroughly enjoyed the walks around the local area of Goathland. As mentioned in other reviews the toilets and shower are dated and not the cleanest but they are in full working order, I just took some gloves and cleaning wipes to allow me to clean the toilet seat before using!
All in all very enjoyable camping experience, kids loved watching the animals and playing hide and seek around the farm! Great back to basics camping trip which entertained the kids without spending in club houses and amusements!
Great little site. Took our 2006 motorhome here. Has electric hook-up, but be careful not to have too much on, did trip out twice. Toilets and shower available on site, but very, very basic. Owners very friendly and easy going. When we stayed the site had one permanent resident, a very nice guy who sells duck eggs, lovely. If you want the luxury of home or the Ritz, don't bother, this site is for those who can make do and get by, and don't get fazed.
Amazing location for real walkers. And perfect if you are/were a 'Heartbeat' TV program fan, as it's film location is on your doorstep in Goathland, pub and all. Nice pub, friendly people, TV series garage across the road selling usual tourist things.
Another nice place to eat and drink down the road at the hotel, very nice people. We would definitely consider going back.
Camping here is basic. The views are stunning, and the surrounding area is beautiful. The site was reasonably quiet, which is what we like, and the owners were friendly. The facilities were basic (a male, female and disabled toilet and a shower) and this does not worry us at all, but we do like them to be clean. The toilets were disgusting. It was evident that they had not been cleaned for some time before we arrived, and were not cleaned for the 5 days we were there. We loved the area, loved the situation of the campsite, and loved the peace and quiet but sadly, the hygiene of the site will prevent us from considering it again.
In the heart of Wharfedale, this beautiful site is terraced to give amazing views over spectacular countryside. Hardstanding pitches for caravans and motorhomes and grass pitches for tents, with optional electric hookup. Toast marshmallows around the fire pit! Come and say hello to their family of friendly resident alpacas.
Hot showers, toilets, laundry, washing up. Wifi, dog washing facilities and bike cleaning facilities. Large woodland area where kids can explore for hours. Small shop and morning coffee shop for barista made coffee, fresh pastries and hot chocolate. There are also luxury timber lodges with private patio, wood fired hot tub, fire pit with pizza oven and a picnic table. The perfect base for exploring the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales. My wife and I spent 4 nights at this sight. It is a field in a working farm. To get to the toilets it's a wander downhill across a field. When you get there there are a couple of toilets for each sex and 1 unisex shower. Overall the facilities were kept clean during our visit. Firepits already exist and are dotted around the field to provide a focal point for solo campers (like us) or groups. Wood can be purchased from the site at a reasonable £4 a bag. The oldest of the farmers sons drives around to sell you wood on your doorstep (if you miss it you can get wood from the farmhouse) he is also a thoroughly nice and helpful person.
Goathland has a couple of pubs which serve real ale and is only a short walk from the site. Food is served at the hotel (which also boasts an a la carte restaurant) so you have options for food if not cooking for yourself. You can also pick up the train which travels between Pickering and Whitby. We took the train to Whitby and were surprised by how long it took. The charm of steam power almost makes up for the ridiculous travel time for such a short distance.
We chose this site for 2 reasons:- campfires and the area. The North Yorks Moors are beautiful. We had a day riding across a variety of terrain on our tandem mountain bike (thank you muddybums. Com for the route) and hardly saw another person - real 'out there experience'.
Would we go back? To the area 'Yes', to the site? Perhaps. Don't get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the site. It's very good and does exactly what it says on the tin. Basic camping in a beautiful area. But the lack of 'no noise after???' would make me think twice.
What a fantastic place, don't get me wrong it's just a field on a farm but been allowed to have campfires makes this a fantastic down to earth site, how camping should be, back to basics. Me and my son went on the 21st September 2012 and we were the only ones there, pitched where we wanted and what a fire we had that evening clear skies, so many stars. The views around you are fantastic and like other reviews goathland only 5 mins away, the toilets and showers very basic but clean overall fantastic experience, many thanks to the owners who also were very nice
Located on the southern slopes of the moor outside of Goathland. The site itself was originally used as Greengrass's Farm from the TV series 'Heartbeat' and you are a leisurely 10 minute walk from Goathland (or Aidensfield, or Hogsmeade [it was used for Harry potter too], you choose).
Even with the recent rain the scenery was beautiful as ever & Surprisingly the field was not as boggy as to be expected (but not their fault, Obviously!). Toilets and shower block, although not 5* they're hospitable and cleaned twice daily by a lovely lady resident who is also employed on the nearby North Yorkshire Moors Railway (don't forget to take your own loo roll!)
The site owners, the Jacksons (local farmers), were helpful, lovely and friendly. At night you can have a campfire. The other campers & caravanners can be lively and this sometimes didn't die down till the early hours of the morning.
Frequently you'll find a pallet full of scrap wood for campfires. They should call the place Ronseal, cos it is what is says on the tin, a farmers field! If you want luxury, free hot water, excellent TV/radio reception, club house, regular deliveries from Asda/Tesco's etc then this place is definitely not for you!
We went for good, down-to-earth camping and definitely got it here. Worth every penny of the £5 pppn, bargain!
Lots to do in the surrounding area. 10 min drive from Whitby, 15 mins Robin Hoods Bay. 20 - 25 min to Pickering, add another 10 mins to Eden Camp at Malton. All of the above have a fantastic Olde Worlde feel about them.
A 20 minute walk to the Goathland Hotel ('Aidensfield Arms') and Scripps plus the North Yorkshire Moors Railway station (also Hogsmeade in Harry Potter), picturesque views everywhere you go. Unbelievable walking area too.
Even sat in your tent, its like being sat inside your own relaxing window on the world with rolling? moorland all around, peaceful & serene.
Downside? Because of the location, the local shops stock primarily touristy stuff, mainly 'Heartbeat' related but who can blame them. Everyday items can be pricey if you can find them (cleverly located at the back of the shops). A trip to Whitby, Pickering or even Malton is normally on the cards for stocking up on the essentials.
All things considered, even with the terrible rain, we had a marvellous time. We'll definitely be back and hope the rain will be have abated too. Fantastic with the National Park around you. A welcoming & homely place away from the tedium of life.
The farm itself was originally used as Greengrases Farm from the Programme Heartbeat and you are a beautiful 5 minute walk from Goathland(Aidensfeild).
Evan with the stormy weather the scenery was beautiful & Surprisingly the field was not at all boggy, toilets and shower block although not 5* were hospitable and clean, don't forget to take your own toilet roll.
The farmers were lovely and friendly. At night there were campfires all round and a party atmosphere which didn't die down till the early hours of the morning. Pallet full of scrap wood was there to provide free wood for campfires.
It is what is says on the tin, a farm field, if you want luxery this is not the place for you, but we went for the good hearted down to earth camping experience and definitely got it here, and worth every penny for £5 pppn, bargain
there is loads to do in the surrounding area's, 30 min drive from Whitby and Robinhoods Bay, and 10 minute walk to the North Yorkshire steam train, picturesque views everywhere you go, even if you are sat in your tent, its like being inside a snow globe with rolling hills all around, beautiful and peaceful
Lovely to be woken in the morning by the friendly sheep, lovely to watch the lambs feeding, and we were a little gutted we didn't wake once to have sheep in the field!
All in all even with the terrible weather we had a brilliant time here and would definitely go back and pray the weather will be better next time, good value for money, and beauty from the national park all around. A place away from the humdrum of daily life.
Reading the reviews I was to say the least dreading it, but the other half was up for it. On arrival there was nobody around, after 20 mins we located some one and paid the fees, £5.00 pppn. Told where to pitch with no one bothering us. Campfires are allowed and a fab idea that should be taken up by more sites. The toilets were dirty and the shower is more of a drip than anything else, it is very basic but usable nevertheless. The surrounding area is lovely, Whitby has lots of little shops, the gift shop at scripts garage is good. Like I said, the site is basic, not so good for armchair campers, but ok if you don't mind roughing it for a few days. I would go back and stay again but not for more than 3 nights - it would benefit from a good clean and showers that worked. All in all not that bad
