 We have just visited the Rodney Stoke site over the bank holiday weekend. Really nice site with electric hook up available for both caravans and tents. Nice hard standing area for the car and grass for your tent or caravan. Clean toilets and showers nearby. Pub food reasonable.
Good location for visiting Wells, Cheddar and Glastonbury. Downside to this site was the noise from the pub function room - 3 wedding parties on all 3 nights we stayed and they did not finish until 12 midnight on each occasion.
When you choose an 'adults only' campsite you do so because you expect a certain level of tranquillity. We understand from other campers who have visited this site before that this was the worst noise they had experienced. We all agreed that the owners could have warned us before we booked!
Would urge anyone using this site to check before booking if they want to get to bed at a reasonable time!

Good value site (£17 including electric) which is in he grounds of a pub/ restaurant but also far enough away to not hear any noise from the pub.
The site was well looked after and the showers/ toilets more than adequate, clean, and within 30 seconds walk of all pitches.
The pub was very busy on the night we stayed but the menu varied and not bad value.
There was also a couple of decent local ales worth trying before strolling back to the van with a full stomach and a smile. Would use the site again when next in Somerset.

We arrived here after leaving another campsite early. The owners are absolutely amazing and so charming and helpful. They took an extra days booking for us without any notice.
Lovely clean site, Warm and welcoming bar and the food was wonderful. I would recommend this site 100%.
One piece of advice about the shower / wet room they provide. Wash your hair before anything else as the water tends to go off before you have finished which isn't a problem if you don't mind waiting a while for it to come back on.
This is an adult only site so was also very relaxing and peaceful. We hope to return again when we are next in the area.
All in all very well done for an excellent service provided.

We picked this site as it was adults only and near Cheddar Gorge, arrived at lunch time and picked our pitch with electric, very nice size pitch,
Toilets and showers combined (unisex) had a shower every morning and the water was lovely and warm, but only 4 toilets/showers so if campsite was busy may be a problem. Could do with a washing up area as currently doesn't have one!
The Rodney Stokes Inn it's self did some lovely food, I celebrated my birthday there and the food was superb, we didn't come away hungry, people may think it is a bit expensive, but when you look around everywhere is about the same price. The owners are very friendly and helpful.
A word of warning we walked to Cheddar from the campsite only 2 miles, but there is hardly any paths and the road is not very wide with blind bends, take the bus from Rodney Stokes bus no: 126 they run every hour.
The site is very central to travel to Wells, Weston Super Mare, Bath and Minehead.

Great location and lovely site. Situated at the back of the Rodney Stokes pub. Nice level pitches soft ground for pegs and screened.
Could be a really excellent site if the owners put washing up facilities in place. Also little things like no soap in the toilets - a simple dispenser is all that's needed.
There is no electric in the shower blocks for use of hairdryers / straighteners etc. My partner was not impressed,
Its all basic stuff that could really improve this site and fill the pitches. Its got fantastic potential, a bit basic at the moment for tents.

A quiet Adult only site, great pub and very friendly staff.
Pitches are fantastic, most with electric and one shared drinking water tap.
Dogs made very welcome both on site and in the pub.
4 Large unisex wash rooms, always clean, include shower, toilet and basin within cubicles. Downside, lack of washing up facilities.
Prime location, close by are Cheddar Gorge and Wookey hole, also only a short drive to Weston Super Mare and the City of Wells.
Will be visiting again & recommending to friends.

Lovely adults only site at the back of an Inn. Very quiet. Food in pub was excellent, if a bit expensive. Only downside was that most of the Inn is really a restaurant, so no dogs. Dogs were allowed in the bar, but it's quite small.
Lovely walks from the bottom of the site around the village.
Electric hookup and water available. Toilet block a short walk away in pub carpark. Four shower / toilet / washbasin cubicles. Very clean.
Site very near Cheddar - close enough to enjoy facilities, far enough away to retreat from crowds.

Toilets/showers
The unisex toilets and shower block has 4 cubicals each containing a toilet, basin and shower, along with a plastic box/stool. 2 hooks in each stall for hanging towels etc (poorly positioned )
Mirror with light and shaving point.
Obtain the key code for the showers and toilets from the pub staff when you book in
On our visit only 5 other couples were camping so the limited facilities were often available although if the place was full I imagine it would be a difficult to get to use the facilities especially if you just need the toilet.
The showers were a reasonable standard, preasure was good and height of the shower head was fine for a tall 6.4” man.
The drain away from the showers was very slow and wet the whole room, and as the hooks for dry things were so close to the shower it was hard to keep things dry.
Cleanliness was not great, the plastic bench in all 4 cubicles and the corners of the floor were grimy. Taps and sinks were however clean.
Chemical disposal : right outside the toilet/shower block and was very smelly and evidence long term drain of overflow was obvious.
Water
A stand pipe in the hedge in the central tree line provided cold water. But the soak away was not very good.
Washing facilities not provided, this is a serious shame as it makes tent camping here more difficult.
Pitch: there are 25 spaces, ours was near the gate at the bottom of the field furthest away from the pub, good level pitch, easy to peg out the tent and nice shade in the evening.
Signage: one small sign advertising the campsite which is easy to miss. No signage to instruct the first time visitor of the place to book in and obtain the key code for the toilet shower block (go into the pub during opening hours)
Pub: nice enough place, a little expensive
Rubbish disposal: one large bin, no recycle facilities and no gas disposal point. On our visit the bin was very full and much rubbish was piled next to it and was smelly.
The area is very nice, and the bus to wells / Weston-super mare is very close by.
Cheddar village just 2 miles away has a few cafes and shops and a hardware shop to buy camping gas / fuel, and several pubs.
Wells 6 miles away is a busy market town with great places to see, good cafes (good earth is excellent) shops and easy bus links to lots of other places.
We stayed at the site for 3 nights and very much enjoyed our time, despite the issues with shower/toilets and lack of washing facilities.
The price is a very affordable one and as it’s a adult only site its generally quiet (apart from the next tent who watched TV all evening in the tent)
We are planning a return visit next spring and would on the whole recommend this budget site to tent campers and small vw campers type campers.

Really liked this site.
Nice level walks from the rear gate, and hill walks from over the main road.
Loved the pub. Food really nice, good selection of beers, ciders etc. Reasonable prices.
I do agree with the comments about the lack of a washing up area, and the chemical disposal point is not to good, but nothing in life is perfect.
Pitch was nearly level, but I used a levelling block anyway. Didn't feel cramped in at all, and this was Bank Holiday weekend.Lovely relaxed site.
Will go back again, and again

We stayed here for a long weekend in July to try out our new tent.The owner was a lovely man very easy going,not rushing you off site on day of departure. The pub was handy for meals and the site close to Cheddar,Wells etc.We were able to choose our own pitch which was lovely.The drawbacks were:
Only 1 tap for fresh water.
We didn't like the toilet / shower block being unisex! I know it was wet rooms once inside with toilet / hand basin and shower,but I did not feel comfortable being in there at the same time as men! i would imagine that when the site was busy you would be waiting a long time in the mornings if you only wanted to spend a penny. Other people on the site with us also picked up on this point. We also found them to have a smell that was not pleasant.
There was no dish wash area and we had to wash up in the tent which was a bit of a pain.
All in all,we did have a lovely weekend but I wouldn't want to stay for any longer due to lack of facilities compared to other sites for the same sort of money.
