This campsite should be the best kept secret in Yorkshire and secrets never should be told. However, I feel this would be selfish. (Only because if its full we wouldn't get in. )
Please read the review from Rich5872 as it sums up everything about this site.
Only down side to this site is, if you are staying in the riverside field, the road is not safe for young children to cross without adult supervision.
We stayed 5 nights and its fantastic! The staff are friendly, its immaculate and outstanding value for money. We are looking forward to our return visit in September.
The welcome we received was friendly and informative, the owners were happy to accommodate our specific needs, and the pitch price was very good. The shower and toilet was beyond a doubt the cleanest I've ever come across; if they seemed a little cramped it was only because they had a washing machine and dryer in there which is more than many do.
The showers, dryer and washing machine are all on time meters and reasonably priced, but the water heater for the washing up sink was simply the wrong device for that application. It produced only a spray of hot water as and when it felt like it which was not of sufficient quantity for more than rinsing.
The road that runs along the site is not heavily used, but when a vehicle comes along, it's usually at a heck of a lick, enough to make a tent billow even through the hedge. It made me feel quite paranoid about an accident.
The owners, I'm sure, can't do anything about that though. It's only because of that road (which separates the tent field from the toilet block) and the overhead powerline across part of the site that I've marked child friendliness as low as I have.
The caravan side does have electrical hook-ups, and they worked well. The site is well maintained, with someone always on hand in case of a problem. The site is located well for a large number of interesting and informative attractions, from a heritage railway to a theme park, from ancient monuments to a PoW camp.
Arived to a lovely welcome from the owner who seemed concerned that she gave me a pitch to suit my needs, tent with electric in quiet area.
I was given a tour of the facilities and grounds and shown my spot, large area in small field with several caravans which seemed to have pitched for the season. There are two showers, one which is a wet room, communal, female toilets and washing up facilities and washing machine in the same 'shed'.
Male toilets at the end of the block. Showers, washing machine and washing up facilities all metered, take plenty of 20p's. All fully explained by owner and shown how to use the meters.
Immaculately clean, the owner was seen several times a day cleaning and checking the facilities. I was shown where I could walk my dog and walks in the local area, information leaflets in 'shed'.
Shed being the toilet block, but as I said, very clean and well looked afer. People in same field were very friendly, nothing but praise for the site and owner.
The only down side was that my tent was pitched under tall trees so was in the shade and birds not particular where they 'go'. Also next to a fairly busy road, but soon got used to it and it was quiet at night. Other pitches in an orchard, away from the road.
Would definitely go again, lovely owner, clean and peaceful site and only £10. 00 per night (one adult and a dog) with electric, well worth it.
We stayed here just for one night but will definitely be back for more.
The small site is split into 2 with the main part being situated in an orchard and the other part being a small field area just over the road. The site is very tidy and there were a few swings dotted about the place for children to play on.
On-site facilities include a toilet block which has showers, (20p for 3 mins) washing up area and washing machine and clothes dryer. The facilities were spotlessly clean. There was also plenty of information in there about local attractions/bus and taxi routes/numbers etc. We went up to the Golden Lion pub which is about a 5 minutes walk away for a meal - this was lovely and well worth the money (very filling - make sure you're hungry!). There is no village shop so make sure you've packed everything you need.
The site owner was on holidays when we arrived but the lady who was caretaking was extremely helpful; we forgot our pump for the airbed and she she went off and borrowed one for us from some other campers.
We were in a tent and didn't bother with an electric hook up - very cheap - only £6 for 2 of us. Would recommend this site for a peaceful, relaxing getaway although if you want to travel around, you're not far from the coast or from York so there is plenty to see and do.
Me and my family came to willow Garth after a recommendation from a friend.
The site is set within a beautiful orchard, which is flat and the grass well maintained. The children enjoyed playing on the tree swings and there was plenty of room for them to ride their bikes with out disturbing others.
Its location is perfect only 5 miles from Pickering, 6 from Malton and 20miles to Scarborough. Flamingo Land is only 5min drive away, but you still have the peacefulness of the surrounding country side.
There is a field across the road, where you can also stop if you don't require the electric hookup which has a stream running to the rear of it ideal for fishing.
The toilet block was always kept spotless with shower and clothes washing facilities.
If you don't fancy cooking there is the village pub which is in walking distance which does very nice meals, Thursday's 'pie night' should not be missed!
Will definitely be coming back again.
