Beautiful quiet rural location. Owners are extremely friendly and helpful. Fantastic location with lots of safe space for kids to play, especially the trampoline (inspired!), plus they loved the sheep! Static caravan that is used as toilets & shower was immaculate. Will definitely return. Warkworth only 5 minute drive away, the castle is well worth seeing. Beaches around the area are gorgeous and car parking is value for money. Lovely ice cream parlour nearby. Thank you for a wonderful weeks stay.

We chose this site as it isn't too far from where we live, and we simply love rural Northumberland.

Being fairly new caravanners we are picking sites which are not too far away, and have decent reviews. We think we have found a 'jewel in the crown' which we will definitely return to.

To access the site was a little nerve racking for us first timers, some tight turns, narrow roads, a track and 3 cattle grids to negotiate plus the odd suicidal sheep. However these little quirks simply adds to the absolute charm and the idyllic location of this site.

The owner was very welcoming and showed us our Huge pitch and sorted out the hook up etc. The static caravan which acts as the toilet and shower facilities was only 15 yards away. The static was unavailable for our first morning, but Clare opened up her own family bathroom for people to use! Unbelievable!

If you get the chance to use the facilities, have a look at all the photos, including those of the house being built from a shell.

After this the static was available and was spotlessly clean with full comforts available for people to use.

For those with kids, there are outdoor toys and a trampoline in the middle of the field, which keeps them entertained while you set up, and some beautiful scenery for the adults ( the trampoline was very tempting, but her indoors gave strict orders to keep off)ha ha.

Warkworth is a 5 minute drive and has a couple of nice pubs, and the beach is gorgeous and after a good couple of hours walking, the pub simply had to be visited. Amble is another 5 minutes along the road and has a good selection of shops in the high street, however the harbour fish and chips could of been better.

Alnwick is about a 20 minute drive, and is simply lovely, the market being a bonus, mmmmmmm strawberries and cream, and a pound shop too !

So how would we sum up this site? No Wifi, no internet, no mobile signal, no TV signal. Absolutely perfect! Wandering by the river, watching herons fishing from the other bank, grass kept short by the local sheep while avoiding their little deposits, peace, beauty, small, friendly, going to sleep to the sounds of owls calling in the nearby wood.

Divine, just divine.

Brilliant little camp site. Only a hand full of pitches, half of the being on total flat ground the others on slightly sloped ground, so get there early to get the pick of the bunch!

The sheep do roam wherever they want so the field is scattered with sheep droppings, but the pitching areas are totally clean, and well mown. The ground was quite hard and damaged afew of pegs, until the rain came then the pegs went in far easier

Trampoline on site, plus a box full of footballs, bats and balls, cricket etc. Plus loads of games inside the static caravan.

The gents toilet floor is quite well soaked so feels like your going to fall through it. But the ladies is immaculate, plus that is where the shower and bath are. They do however ask £1 per person to go in the honesty box if you use the facility. There is a freezer to use for icepacks, electric for charging (donation in box), comfy surroundings if the weather isn't too kind.

All in all excellent cheap little campsite, with very friendly owners. Like their website says don't follow satnav. I aimed for warworth castle then followed the insructions on the website, plus the sat nav as back up as 'station road' isn't signposted, it's signposted shilbottle (very first left after the river coquet)

The owners are very friendly and approachable, they will answer any questions and help out in any way!

It is basically a camp site in their garden and it feels that homely! They have masses of land, down by the river, up in the top field and at the front of house (again by the river)and even though they were quite busy there was no noise or mess! The sheep made more noise and mess!

It is a very rural site and they have sheep around and a hen we named 'Clara'!

There is a static caravan that is used for facilities - a gents toilet, a ladies toilet and the shower and bath is used by both sexes. The kitchen sink is for washing pots and the kitchen can be used for cooking or brewing while queuing! There are also 2 chemical toilets. They also have books and games in the caravan - great for occupying the kids on a rainy day. It is a bit of a trek from the far side of the site and I am sure when it is busy there will be queues but again we didn't really have a problem with it!

They have a trampoline for use by children and brave adults - good fun!

There is lots to do in the local area and we tried our nerves by driving through the Ford! The static caravan has lots of local leaflets to look at and the owners have great local knowledge!

There is a castle and decent pubs in Warkworth and the nearest village is Amble, that has shops, cafes, take aways, ATM`s, and a brilliant Sunday market!

The site and facilities are very clean and is very reasonably priced!

I would recommend it to any campers wanting a base to explore and peace and quiet!

We have just come back from a great night at this relaxing, gem of a site! We were three families with 6 kids and three pitches next to each other in the lower field.

There is loads of space for the kids to run around, plenty of trees to climb and areas to explore. Although having said that they preferred to be on the trampoline!

The pitches are flat, especially in the top field, with loads of space for cars, tarps etc, and it was so peaceful! The sheep were a bit noisy, lots of poo, but the kids found them fascinating.

The static caravan was fine for toilets and showers, plenty of hot water and open 24/7.

We will definitely return here, love the area, just up the road, peaceful and friendly. Would recommend to anyone!

We stayed at this site for 2 nights over the weekend. The site was busy with all the tent pitches being occupied. But only one caravan. The site sits in beautiful Northumberland countryside, within easy reach of warkworth, amble and alnwick.

The ten tent pitches are situated on a flat area beside the river at the bottom of a steep field. The pitches are large and level. The caravans pitches are on the top level.

The only shower on the site is situated in the static caravan on the upper level, this also houses the lady and gents toilets. The dish washing sink, a fridge freezer and a microwave are also in the static. Signs in this area ask for £1 per person per day to use these facilities. The only water supply is also on this level. The static is locked up at 10pm and reopens at 8am. There are also 2 chemical toilets housed in tents.

This is a lovely site which will only get better as with the owners plans to improves the facilities.

The only down side we could see was the sheep in the tent field, we had to clear our pitch of sheep dung before we could pitch our tent and the hill up to the static was also covered in sheep dung{our dogs favourite treat for the stay].

But don't let that put you off this is a great site in a lovely area, with friendly helpful owners. We will be returning soon

This was our 2nd visit to Walkmill, we met up with some friends that we made on the first visit, we are late putting up a review as we often keep quiet about the 'good ones'.

We were there over the late May bank holiday and although the site was very busy it was still great. The static and the toilet tent that Claire had put up as a spare coped admirably well and the static was kept very clean.

The kids loved the trampoline and 2 of our older teens went off exploring the local countryside and took lots of great pictures.

We had a firepit with us and Claire & Nick had no problem with that as we were careful to protect the grass from the fire.

Warkworth Castle is well worth a visit as is the Italian Icecream parlour (Spurelli's) in Amble. We also loved Cragside and would return there again in a flash.

We stayed 3 nights over the early May bank holiday. The site was full but you would never have known it. Acres of space and plots that have some degree of choice about where exactly you want to go. The camping field down by the river also had some campervans, all off grid and it is HUGE. Some vans were out of site of the main field right next to a slow and deep cut trout river. There were sheep grazing the camping field, OK a bit noisy first thing in the morning and particularly at feeding time but brilliant for kids. Buzzards calling overhead and hidden from all their faming neighbours, the site is a natural haven. Great for walks to nearby Warkworth with its wonderful castle, old town cafes and beaches. As you can tell we loved this site.

The toilet block is a mobile home and at peak times you might need to wait for the shower, but that is a chance to chat with others on the site. It is spotlessly clean, and the hosts are very attentive and helpful. Children have a trampoline and cricket bats, balls etc. They meet in the middle of the field so it is well monitored and safe.

It deserves the full stars that most reviewers give it. Quiet, remote, small and a bit off grid compared to the bigger boys, but all the better for it.

I stopped here on the 1st of may and left early afternoon. The owner was very helpful and kind and even gave me some weetabix in the morning as I forgot my food! Was a little hard to find as it was down a track which confused me a little but after risking going down it I found it fine. Lovely area wish I lived there. The toilet and shower was located in a static caravan. I will definitely be stopping here again especially for only £6. 50 a night, the cheapest site I found and with such great scenery!

We camped here May Bank holiday weekend, a family of 4 in a family tent, and to the most part I would agree with other reviews that this is a lovely site, in a wonderful location.

The site is divided into 2 sections, the top part a well kept, lawn like area, with facilities, and hookups. Very lovely. Then through the fence is a large field. And here lies the problem, even though we pre-booked, tents are not allowed in the top section, which meant we couldn't have a hookup, or be in the nice bit.

The 'tent field' is basically a farm field, complete with sheep, and whole lot of sheep-sh**t. And I mean A LOT! Now, we are seasoned campers, and camp in a variety of places, but if I'm camping in an overflow field/ farm field I expect two things - a) to pay overflow/ farm field prices and b) to be able to pitch where I want. Unfortunately I got neither. As a family of 4 we actually paid more being in a tent than the same size family did in a caravan complete with hookup? And we had a marked pitch, which given the immense size of the field was rather bizarre, and a bit sad that all us tents were forced to pitch side by side, looking into each others tents, when there was so much space.

The marked pitches are a fair size, but given the huge size of the field totally unnecessary. They are in a line at the bottom end of the field, which means walking through the field, and a whole lot of sheep-sh**t to use the facilities. It was hard enough in daylight, not to stand in something horrible, impossible at night! The sheep may I also say at this point, are partial to toggles and tapes, and we witnessed them frequently munching on tents!

The facilities are in a static caravan, one loo in the gents, the ladies has a loo and shower in the same room. Which means if the shower is in use, there's only one loo. Given that we went over a bank holiday, and it was busy, the owner did also put up a portaloo, but if I'd wanted to use a portaloo I'd have brought my own. The facilities are well kept, and if it wasn't busy would have been adequate, but we had to queue a lot.

So. On reflection. Would I use the site again? Probably not. It is in a lovely area, and the site owner seemed pleasant enough, but I hate the whole us-and-them, tents v caravans ethos. If I pay the same money, or on this case more! then I expect the same experience. And this site fell far short of this. For £18 per night, I'd want a EHU, and not to have to clean my boots every time I needed the loo! But hey. If you're in a caravan, book up now, it's a wonderful site!
