Having been caught before with non caravan club sites we were a little concerned before arrival, but on the whole were pleased with the site. Showers were hot and never too full, toilet and washing facilities clean. Pleasant staff on arrival including an apology for leaving us waiting for just a few minutes before they could take us to our pitch. Playground and pool very good. Only criticism (apart from weather) was that the pitches were close together - our car was parked right next to neighbours awning and our other neighbours car was parked so close to our awning we couldn't use that side as a door opening. There again it was half term and the site was full. Easy to find and on the main filey, scarborough road with each about 10 mins away. Plenty of large supermarkets in main seaside towns, but the site shop was very good also.
This is a nice campsite. Level pitches and well maintained.The play park is excellent,the clubhouse is also very good as is the swimming pool (although there is charge to use it which can work out to be quite expensive if you have 2 or more children and they enjoy swimming everyday) It is ideally situated for exploring the surrounding area and there is lovely clifftop walk with panoramic views of the coast. The toilet facilities are modern and clean with free showers. The security barrier occasionally didn't operate (very tempermental). This is not a cheap campsite but quite pricey although this reflects on the high standards and well run site
This was our 2nd visit to the site, the facilities are still excellent and the showers / toilets are all kept clean. The downside is that some tents are pitched to close together. Staff are very friendly and the security barrier reassurance over unwanted guests.
We go to this camp site every year, it, it is clean, friendly. The entertainment is family friendly, kids love it. They swimming pool is clean. The shop sells most of what you need, and it is reasonable in price. It is well worth the money. The park is good and there is also a games room, and a bowling alley upstairs of the game room. The showers are clean and the water is hot. No complaints at all.
Very pleasant staff, cracking pool for the kids, upstairs bar that did bingo and let you escape from the kids (not allowed) escorted to pitch and a golf course (not gleneagles !) outside camp gates, very pleasant stay handy for Filey and Scarborough, definatly go again.
Set in the midst of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, a family run farm with a stream meandering through the site and breathtaking views, with plenty to do nearby. Tent and campervan pitches with or without electric. Five star shower block with showers, washbasins, toilets, disabled and family room. Sinks for pot washing, a kettle and microwave, charge points, communal fridge freezers. Fire pits are available to hire. Wifi
A small shop sells essentials and an on-site cafe serves delicious food and drinks! Freshly brewed coffee, sausage sandwiches, or warm pastries, in the evening, enjoy stone-baked pizzas. Luxury timber pods and two magical bell tents with private hot tubs are also available to hire. Don't forget to meet their friendly family of alpacas! Stayed at the Flower of May for the first time, the site was superb, very well kept, the toilet facilities were very clean and plentiful.
Ideally situated between Bridlington and Scarborough it provided us with a great base to do the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, visit Goathland (Heartbeat Country), Whitby, Robin Hoods bay and many more places.
Everyone on the site was friendly and there seemed to be a mutual respect for others and the facilities, the noise curfew was never broken.
On site there is a well equipped Launderette, Chip Shop, Swimming Pool, site shop and good sized play area. The beach isn't directly accessible from the site (Unless you fancy a dubious walk down the cliff) but if you fancy walking to Cayton bay it's about 40 mins.
We had poor weather while we were there and the well utilised pitches did become a little muddy, but it wasn't too bad. The hardstandings are'nt particularly level so don't assume and the pitch we was on was a little tight.
All in all it was a very enjoyable stay, the staff, wardens and guests are welcoming, friendly and always happy to point out local places of interest.
Our two children loved this site and I am sure will be going back, the Star Pitches are fantastic and removed the job of fetching and disposing of water.
We had visited the flower of may before, staying in a static, but this was our first visit with our tent. It's still a great site, we were shown to the paddock and asked if the chosen pitch was ok by the warden. We had plenty of room. The weather was a letdown but the site more than makes up for it. There are rules, but these are for the benefit of everyone. The showers and toilets were clean and spacious. There was enough room in the shower cubicle for me and my 6 year old, she loved the sensors. The playarea is fantastic, and when the rain stopped I never saw the kids. The youngest loved magic mike and oscar, even though shes seen them more than once before. My only fault with the pool is that there was too much chlorine in the water that gave us headache. We will definitely be returning to the flower of may, we have to, the kids said so
2nd visit this year and we'll definitely be back next year.Lots of space between pitches and the showers are great as there is somewhere to leave your clothes without them getting wet. The park is brilliant and there was always plenty of entertainment for kids at night. The shop, the club and cafe were all reasonably priced and the staff were friendly. You paid for the swimming pool but it was cheaper than my local pool and they had plenty of inflatables for the kids. I well recommend a visit here and it is cheap compared to other campsites that I've been to that aren't a patch on it.
Four day stay at the Flower of May site. On arrival shown to our pitch by the warden. Unfortunately she left before we checked the pitch which was soaking wet and muddy which caused us problems manoeuvring our caravan onto the pitch and our car got stuck in the mud. We have now learnt the hard way to in future insist on being moved to a better pitch. Due to weather conditions toilet/shower blocks wet and muddy. Owners should consider providing mop and buckets to allow users to clean up muddy puddles prior to use! On a positive note the site is very family friendly with excellent play ground equipment with cushioned flooring and grassed area for ball play, children's entertainment in the family room of the site pub, small indoor swimming pool and an arcade for older children. Site shop well stocked but a little pricey (but expected this) and reception staff friendly and helpful. Lots of local information leaflets available ie bus timetables, places of interest to visit and even local takeaway menus offering delivery on site. Site approx five minutes drive to Filey and ten - fifteen to Scarborough. We especially enjoyed our visit to the American Circus which was across the road from the site. All in all would defiantly return (hopefully when it is drier) and would defiantly recommend to families with young children.
My husband & I have just returned from our first camping trip at flower of may, our pitch was brill close to the tap for water, & we wasn't cramped in their was plenty of room to be comfortable. We have two young daughters 8 + 10 & they thought it was a fantastic, it had all the facilities what all family's require.
The shower/toilet block was as clean as expected for the amount of people who was using them, in the men's block had a shaving point & in the Lady's had a plug socket for your hairdryer, its also useful for those who have teenage daughters who need to use straighteners.
The park area is large and had a big playing field for football, it was always busy but never had any trouble from the other children, the site staff also kept a close eye on the park this was a good thing & kept our minds at bay knowing someone else was checking up on the kids to.
The indoor pool is brilliant for those wet days, because our girls was 8+ & good swimmers they could go in by themselves, but parent's have to stay close by, you could sit by the pool or even go for a quiet drink at the bar.
All in all the site was fantastic & we will return again next year.
Beautiful tent only site set on a family run hill farm in the Yorkshire Dales, nestled between Ingleborough and Whernside. The Three Peaks footpath runs right through the farm adjacent to the campsite with lots of walks direct from the site from easy strolls to climbing the Three Peaks, and five minutes to the pub!
Tent pitches only, no electric hookups. Toilet and shower block and washing up facilities. Sit, eat and socialise in the old barn, with free wifi, charging lockers, freezer. At weekends the Philpin Snack bar is open for cooked breakfasts, hot and cold snacks and drinks, ice creams, chocolates etc, on other days there are vending machines in the barn. Find out more here
Booked Saturday to Friday. Thought we booked sat to sat but never checked the receipt properly. Anyway good points: clean and golf was only £10 for 18 holes. Bad points: adult entertainment only on Saturdays. Unhelpful staff. Swimming £1.75 adult, £1.25 child works out a lot to go twice in one day. snooker table is only quarter size but I still needed extension which they do not have. Bowling was out of order and after I enquired as to when it would be working I was more or less told it has no prospect of being fixed. pitches small won't go back again.
My first ever camping trip and alone with my little girl and what can I say! Fantastic! Lovely site, great entertainment my little one loved and the best ever play area and playground I have seen, showers and toilets clean and well maintained.didn't go in the indoor pool as we forgot our swimming costumes :( Will definitely visit The Flower of May again!
Rst week camping trip after reading the reviews on here, we decided to go for the Flower of May, and what an excellent choice it was. We arrived on Friday at approx. 5pm and we were quickly taken by the warden to our pitch. The pitch size was very reasonable, fitting our tent and car plus plenty of room in between for cooking etc. We had a line of trees behind us which shaded the tent in the day and protected us from the wind, although behind it was the golf course and conveniently a bench for the golfers to sit and chat on, which on occasions was fun to eavesdrop! Dogs are allowed on site and all the ones we saw were well behaved and on leads at all times. The facilities were excellent with clean showers and toilets, which always had loo roll in, although the taps on all sinks were very powerful, stand back before you get an unplanned shower! There was also a separate pots and pans room (again with powerful taps) to wash up in and a baby change room. The only drawback with the shower block nearest to us was it didn’t show the times it was closed for cleaning, on a couple of times we got there to see they were shut and had to detour to another one close by. The entertainment was shared over two rooms, the downstairs for the families and children and upstairs an adult only bar, with pool table in the tap room and lounge the other side. If you are after any Sky Sports there is a pub at the end of the entrance road, with 5 big screens, you just need to ask them for the channel you want to watch and they will put it on. There was also a very nice carvery in the family area of the pub, although we didn’t eat there, it looked like value for money. There is also a large play area for the children. Overall we would fully recommend it, although being the first place we have visited we can’t compare it! Not yet anyway.
This site is great. The moment we arrived we were impressed. The Warden took us to our pitch, and she took into consideration the fact we had a 7 month old, putting us near to facilities but far enough away for noise levels, asking if that was alright. Fantastic. Toilet/shower blocks were clean, and on site facilities including, swimming pool, jacuzzi, ten pin, bar, laundry, take away and shop were great. All this for £15 a night. We will definitely go back.
We decided on the Flower of May for an extended weekend trip and we weren't dissappointed. The site was absolutely spotless, with the toilet blocks being cleaned three times a day. All the ablution facilities are free of charge with sensor operated showers that (for me, at least) never ran out of hot water. The clubhouse has some excellent kiddie entertainment for the "young 'uns" and a well equipped arcade for the older kids. The adults only bar is a great place for parents to escape and have a quiet drink.
I only have two complaints, the first being that we were told our tent was too big to go on the EHU pitches (max size 6m x 6m) yet when we arrived there were some far larger tents than ours on there. (we weren't too worried as we had much more space in the "paddock" anyway.)
Our second complaint was that we had arranged to have two separate sets of relatives come with caravans half way through our stay, when they came to book the first set had their booking accepted with no questions. The second set were told that because they were only staying two nights they couldn't book in advance, but that shouldn't be a problem, the park wasn't busy and they should just turn up on the day. Of course on the day the park was full. To be fair after much heartache and debate an unused seasonal pitch was found and all was well. However I'm sure that if we hadn't kicked up a fuss our visitors would have just been turned away.
In short an excellent site that we will undoubtedly use again, but only if we can get a fully confirmed booking!
