 This was our very first experience with camping so, we went with trepidation but were definitely pleasantly surprised. Upon arrival we were shown to our pitch by the warden and given instructions on how to lay the tent out on the pitch. The pitch( with electric hook up) was more than adequate for our large family tent and there was plenty of room between us and the next tent.
The site is really clean as are all the facilities and the toilet and shower block was always immaculate. The site has it's own clubhouse which is well set out with the majority being no-smoking. There was a good range of real ales on in both the family room and in the adults-only bar upstairs. Our 3 year old was more than impressed with the magician and the children's disco which was well planned out.
The swimming pool has a small charge for residents but again you couldn't fault the cleanliness or the state of repair. There is also an excellent kid's playground that kept our two children entertained for hours!
Overall. the site is immaculate and the staff friendly and approachable. There is a refundable deposit of £10 for the security gate but once we had seen the park we certainly didn't have any problem with it. The site is ideally located for visiting the east coast(Scarborough, Filey & Bridlington) and there is a Sunday market at the bottom of the drive which is worth a visit.
We enjoyed this site so much we are already planning our return trip!

We went to Flower of May for the May Day weekend for the first time this year(been going for the last 20+ years) and found the facilities to be as good as they have always been. Clean showers and toilets, well maintained grounds and excellent family facilities. They have a new warden who directs you to the pitch but with the previous warden who had been there years you cannot pick which pitch you want you have to go on the one instructed. The avenues that can be used by caravan and tents have been made more for caravans leaving a shortage of tent pitches with electric hook up. They have also introduced one dog per pitch for all the season and they have been designated an area of pitches.
Still a very good site but going the way of many sites with a reduction of tent pitches.

Camped over the August Bank Holiday. Pitch size was a squeeze for large family tent. Campsite has excellent facilites - a large swimming pool, lovely club with entertainment and large shower / toilet blocks.
Unfortunately as with lots of sites over the bank holiday it was packed and we had trouble getting our car in and out. We also found that the toilet block was not very clean.
We were down an avenue with no concrete path, which was fairly narrow for two rows of tents and access for cars down the middle.
On the whole a nice site but wouldn't visit again over the bank hols.

An absolutely excellent site. Nice level pitches which easily acommodated our large family tent. All facilities were spotlessly clean and the staff very friendly.
Cannot recommend it highly enough, stayed for five nights but enjoyed it so much we added another three nights.

I visted this site with my husband and 2 children aged 2 and 5 years, together with my parents who had their own pitch. On arrival we asked for 2 pitches together and the warden managed to find two pitches opposite each other on third avenue. The only down side was that it had been raining heavily and the was no concrete road down the avenue as most of the other avenues did which resulted in the middle being like a swamp making it difficult for people arrving and departing. Cars were struggling to tow their caravans away, but hopefully the park will eventually get round to concreting all of the roads to avoid this being a regular occurrance.
The children enjoyed the play area, one of the biggest I have seen on a campsite.
There were 3 shower blocks which were very clean and spacious and a screen prevented your clothes from getting wet. They were always hot and operated by a sensor, which managed to break down when I had just put the shampoo on my kids hairs!! and I had to go into another one, but on the whole I would say that this site had one of the best showering facilities I have seen and plenty of toilets too.
The pitches did seem to me a bit on the small side as once you have erected your awning there is very little space for you to sit outside on a hot day, as the next pitches car is parked very close.
We did not vist the entertainment but it did seem to be very popular, and the swimming pool was enjoyed by all of us. It caters for small children with a fountain to stand under and a jacuzzi also, however once the fountain is working it takes the pressure from the showers and the small turns the showers cold so my advice would be to get out of the pool and shower when the fountain isn't working.
The shop was well stocked with very friendly staff.
Also note that there is a security barrier into the park and you have to pay a £10 deposit for a security card but this is refundable on your departure.
The site is located between Scarborough and Bridlington and on the main route so both seaside towns are easily accessible.
We would definitely visit this site again, as it did seem to be well planed and organised and no matter where you were situated on the site, the amenties were never far away. We always were able to get a shower without having to queue, and cleaniliness was always a top priority with the owners.

Me, my husband and four kids visited this site the first week in the school hols, the site was very clean and the staff very friendly, everything was in in easy walking distance from our pitch, the kids loved the park we hardly saw them, we only went to the club onces there was a magician on and he was the compare for the rest of the evening, he was good at entertainig the kids, me and my husband even got up for a dance. The swimming pool was very clean, it had lots of water toys for the kids, we really had a great holiday.

Just got back from first family tent camping trip.
K ids loved this site we didn't use all the facilities as we were only there for two days.
The swimming pool is lovely warm and not too small.
The site is reasonably well set out and the park is secure.
We personaly didn't find the shop too overpriced.
We had a great time and will return at a later date.

Large Tent Pitch size
This is a Heads up for people with larger tents wanting to pitch at the "Flower of May" site with an Electric hook up (EHU).
Please note the the EHU max pitch size, as quoted by their reception is 6M X 6M.
This Pitch size will not accomodate most family size tents.

Great site, excellent clean facilities with hot water most times, caught out a couple of times in the shower where it went off all of a sudden other than that everything was great. Loads of room for large tent I have Tourist Plus 12xp. Play area was great for the children. Entertainment for children was also excellent. Pool was large and suitable for 1 year old and my 3 year old, was lovely and warm too.
We had electric hook up and the field we were on was nice and flat and close to the shower block.
Would recommend this site to anybody and will definitely be returning next year. The weather was also beautiful whilst we were there. The site is also close to loads of places to visit so there is plenty to see and do.

I have just had a week at Flower of May Holiday park at Scarborough and had a wonderful time. I have been visiting this site for a long time now and the site is of excellent quality.
Toilet / showwer blocks cleaned regularly, on site shop well stocked, cafe and fish and chip shop not too bad but had better, kids entertainment in family bar excellent, upstairs adult only bar with entertainment at weekends, very helpful wardens (Lynda actually broke her foot playing football with some of the kids there). Site all in all kept exceptionally clean.
The only problem that I have with site now is that it is becoming more touring caravan orientated and cutting back on the number of tent pitches, they have cut back by four avenues for touring caravans which were once used by tents.
Ideally situated for Scarborough, Filey, Whitby or Bridlington.
Still I will keep going every spring bank as we all enjoy it so much.

We went to this site in August, for two weeks, the first in all of the storms and yes most of the site became waterlogged and covered in mud which I think would have been the same on any site. We upgraded and had a hardstanding pitch which worked very well and kept us dry and clean, my recomendation is to try for one of these rather than one on grass.
The toilet facilities were fine after the first week, and the pub on site was reasonably priced. The swimming pool was expensive at £2.50 each, including small children, but was itself clean and well run.
I dont think we will be returning here as the pitches were on the small side and the children ended up having to play on the service road with virtually no room left in between the vans, it did feel as though the site was trying to get as many people on the avaliable land as possible.

This site is has good facilities, it's clean and well organised. It wasn't that busy and we pretty much had the run of the place. There were a couple of down sides - mainly the officious warden and receptionist, after errecting my gazebo the warden came to tell me that it wasn't allowed and I must take it down with no real reason exept it was against the rules. I was not particularly pleased with the outcome and proceded to take it down in the dark!! not impressed!! On arrival we were also forced to pay £3 for a late checkout that we neither wanted or used, we were instructed by the receptionist to attatch a copy of our booking slip to our guide ropes of the tent which we duly did. Overnight the slip blew away in the wind and was lost forever through no fault of our own. On departure we explained what had happened to the slip expecting the receptionist to check her booking log and give us our £3 back, but because the rules meant we had to have a slip she was not prepared to give us a refund! Again I was not impressed!!
Enough to say that although the site was really nice and we would like to return, we will not be on principle! If you do choose to go - don't break any rules!

our first ever camping trip read reviews and we where most impressed by the site and its location. Sun shine all week, I don't think that was anything to do with the Flower of May but it gave us that feel good factor that you need on a first trip.
The site is excellent for first time campers, we were a tent pegs throw from everything, did not have to look for anything just turn around and it was there.
A very clean site, the ground staff were on the go all the time cleaning all over the site.
Showers and toilets were very clean, every time you went to the shower block they were either just getting cleaned or just been cleaned, morning and night.
All in all a very quiet and pleasent site, we will go back for sure.

Well, we were very unlucky with the weather - we went on that week with the big storms! The field did get waterlogged and some people went home, but it would have been impossible not to have been muddy in such freak weather. This meant that we used a lot of the parks facilities a lot of the time, especially the pool - large and clean, the family room bar - large again and modern, with ok entertainment for children under 12ish, cafe - bit expensive but excellent quality, and shop - best shop we've ever seen on a campsite.
Toilet blocks are large and generally clean. In the rainy, muddy weather, the floors did get bad, and they were fully cleaned at least twice a day. I liked the mirrored area with plug sockets for your own hairdryer in the ladies - much better that the 20p things that you often get on sites.
We loved it here (our kids too, who are 9 and 11) and used it as a base to travel to all the coastal towns in the area. Will definately go again.

We have just returned from our first camping trip to the flower of may. We (me my partner and 5 year old son)loved this site and would recommend it to anyone with children. You can book a pitch over the phone with their friendly staff (which we weren't able to do with a lot of other sites where you just have to turn up with fingers crossed I presume) or you can send off a booking form via email.
We found this privately run site to be extremely well maintained with excellent modern facilities.We were particually impressed with the indoor pool which was very in expensive and the night time entertainment which lasted from 7 till 11 and left our son entertained and exhausted.
We were pitched in the paddock with no electic hook up.The ground was at a slight slope and well used. We were taken here by the site warden who advised us on how best to pitch our tent. We had plenty of room despite the site being very busy.
There were many toilet blocks and washing up rooms. These we found to be clean most of the time (high numbers of children do tend to explain the mud/mess that other reviewers have found) The showers were hot and operated by a sensor which was a bit difficult to use when the water cut out when you had soap in your eyes!
Overall this site was fantastic in our first day there we must have seen the warden about 20 times dashing about the site doing everything from litter picking (the site was immaculate)to fixing swings. The whole place felt really safe for kids and there is a huge playground and field for football etc.
The site is situated about 10 mins from scarborough and filey and 30 mins from whitby. Most importantly its about 5 mins walk from "the plough" which we only discovered on our last night. This pub serves the biggest carvery we have ever come across for £5.95 for adults and has a family lounge too.
We paid 13.50 per night in the high season which given the facilities is a bargain. We plan to return soon.
