 My wife and I have just enjoyed a lovely visit to this site. The location was beautiful and the fishing was excellent. The facilities at the site were more than adequate. It really poured down on the Saturday night, but the drainage of the site was excellent and the ground was bone dry the following morning.
The toilets were clean and there was an ample supply of hot water. Some campers had used the gents toilet as a dump for the contents of their chemical facilities which caused a blockage, but within half an hour, this problem was sorted out by a member of staff. The staff themselves were very polite and helpful. I had brought along the wrong cable for the electric socket, but when I told the staff, they supplied me with the correct fixture.
The local village is quite picturesque and the local publican sold a decent pint of Guinness. Beware, the chip shop closes at 2100 hrs. Plenty of shopping in Heathfield, three miles away.
We will definitely be making return visits this year. I want the fish that broke my line.

Stayed at the site end of may, great site a little uneven but not a problem, good size pitches, staff always on hand.
Fishing on site was good don't need much gear just a rod reel and some bread.
Visited the horam inn great food and drink, friendly landlord. Also went to the may garland pub, I wont be going back in a hurry, flat beer and soft drinks, food ok but the staff need to cheer up and smile a bit.
We will be going back to the campsite, I really cant fault it. Loads to do and loads to visit

Stayed over Bank holiday weekend with friends on their initiation to caravans. Arriving on the Friday about midday to an almost empty site, they were directed to the lowest point in the first field. We witnessed their front wheel drive car struggle to manoeuvre their van on the fairly steep slopes of damp grass but warden was more than willing to break out their tractor and tow them to an alternate pitch in the second field.
Assistance and helpful advice was also given in orienting our vans together to make the most of our two adjacent and generously sized pitches. Second field gently slopes requiring levellers on every pitch. The site soon filled during Friday but the there were a few empty spots and because pitch sizes were so good it didn't seem too cramped. Many groups of campers noted with communal fires in late evening, though site very quiet after 1030.
Ablutions were sound and maintained reasonably clean but insufficient for the numbers of campers, queuing seemed to be the norm throughout the morning.
Horam Inn only a short walk is very dog friendly with good quality, reasonably priced food and excellent beer. Local golf course is recommended, a mature 9 hole with alternate tees to make the full 18, well kept. 5 hole pitch and putt for £4 all day is a hoot. Fishing on site if that's your bag and lots of things to do in the area. A small children's play area on site largely ignored in preference to the tree climbing opportunities. Large playing field next door is great for dog walking but not sure access is truly permitted. Would definitely consider returning.

First trip away in our new van for a one night test trip.
Site was fairly quiet, few tents and caravans. Welcome was warm and friendly and given a choice of pitches. The toilets and washing up area were spotless but with only a few campers they should be. There didn't seem many showers / wc's which could be a problem when site is full.
Walked through the 'manor' area, everything seemed closed so went to the pub instead! The Horam Inn was welcoming and the beer garden was lovely.
Overall a good basic site.

Not bad.
Good points: Friendly welcome. Free hot showers and family room - which was useful for us with two small children. Plenty of room. Near to pub and village shops.
Bad points: Traffic noise from main road. Noisy party arrived 9pm on the Friday evening and were not quiet until after 1am - despite apparent 10pm noise curfew.

This is a traditional old campsite. The ground is fairly uneven and it has a reasonable toilet block. No shop on site that I remember but the local shops are only a short walk away. There are 2 fields and a fishing lake. When we stayed, there was a town show taking place in the field next door which made for a pleasant distraction. The larger field on the Saturday almost disappeared due to the smoke from barbeques but the smell was mouth watering. All in all we had a good weekend but I am not sure I will rush back. It is nice but not memorable.

Friendly welcome from staff - we were allocated a numbered pitch. We stayed over the Airbourne weekend so the site was quite full, and felt it, as the pitches are quite close together. The toilet shower block was kept clean, but does not have enough WCs showers etc considering the size of the site. It is a pleasant site though, well located and flat, the nearby village has a big pub, a chippie, and shop, which is handy. A nice site, worth a visit outside peak times.

Visited this site in August 2008 for a weekend break.
Staff were very helpful and friendly. Pitches are reasonably sized.
Toilet / shower facilities were extremely clean and quite adequate for the size of the site.
Small childrens play area on site as well as a play park just 100yds from site entrance.
Horam itself is a short stroll away for some shops and a nice pub. Just adjacent to the site is a cafe which does good food.
Would definitely re-visit.

Just visited again for a long weekend. Found the fishing very good. Toilet block a little dirty due to the football tournament taking place that weekend. People came in late at night & didn't respect the quiet time on the booking forms.
Which is 10pm -7.30am. Which needs to be on a sogn as you enter the site. Other wise a very nice site for the family. Lots of animals to see. Tea room,near lakes.

Bank holiday very busy quite packed in feel. Very good drainage on the site heavy overnight rain no mud. Insufficient toilet facilites well cleaned, only 4 curtained wash basins in womens and 3 showers, but the showers were lovely and hot and not timed, 2 electric sockets to use for hairdryer (not supplied) and straighteners.
Showers were very busy early on (cueing) so best to use later in day. The Maylands pub down the road was pretty dead on Friday night.
Alfriston on saturday night found nice pubs and restaurant. Lovely area to visit with a wonderful 10 mile circular walk from Alfiston taking in the Sussex downs, Seven Sisters cliffs and Friston forest.

Site split into pitches with electic hook up and those without. Field with electric hook up not as busy as field without. Site did have numbered pitches but large field in middle seemed to be a 'free for all'. We arrived Thursday lunch time and it was not too busy. By Friday tea time/early evening it was really busy and there was not to much space between units! There were several large parties which took up huge amounts of space and this seemed to be quite acceptable including the asscoiated noise! Site itself was pleasant and well maintained. Showers etc. Were never too busy despite the number of people on site and were cleaned every day. Take note: there are no hairdryers so take your own but there are plugs for hair straightners!
Village of Horam was 5 mins walk away and village pub is really nice and food was excellent! Limited shops in village (bakers, general shop) but there is a co-op in Heathfield.
Loads to do locally. Would recommend a trip to Brighton and Battle (of Hastings).

Very quiet site when we arrived. Staff were really friendly and came by our pitch whilst setting up to make sure everything was fine. It was nice to be on a relaxing site with a quiet time from 10pm till 7am. The toilets were clean all of the time and checked regular. My only downside and it is small are the small number of showers for ladies (3) and the shower heads which could do with a bit more power. Some of the sinks have shower curtains across for some privacy which is nice.
The village is a short walk to the left of the campsite with a nice chippy and recommended pub. The pub was friendly and the food excellent (full restaurant menu or bar food). At the entrance to the site is the busy Village Hall and Scout/Guide Hut. This was no problem at all. There is lots to do within easy reach especially the coastal towns. We were on site when the heavy rain hit the country causing flooding everywhere. The site drained well at the time considering the deluge.
Would go back as its friendly,clean and great value.

Just come back from this park and was overall pleased with our stay.
The warden - Only ever saw one lady, she seemed to be booking people in/checking them out, answering queries, cleaning and being the site warden. However she was very friendly and helpful. There may have been more people about but we just didn't see them.
Park Facilities - The shower block and toilets were clean most of the day. By early evening however there was a slight whiff coming from the toilet block. All the soap had gone and water was more of a dribble, but it was always hot. There was no shop as such but there was a café and the site reception had ice creams available and calor gas refills. There was a laundry room and a washing up room which was very useful. The chemical waste disposal room had all the things you need plus it was spotlessy clean. Even cleaner than the toilet block! There was a very (and I mean) very small play park for the kids, just a few balance beams and a 0's and X's game. There was a riding stables on site but lessons were all fully booked. There was a paint your own pottery shop on site but we found the prices very high. There are also nature trails on site, but at £1 per person to walk through a wood next to the fishing lake which smelt awful and covered in flys from the fish entrails that had been left, was very unacceptable we felt.
The Pitches & Site - When we first arrived we thought we had a lovely big pitch as we were one of the first to arrive that day, however by tea time we soon realised that the site seemd cramped and quite crowded. The gates locked at 10.30pm and re-opened at 7am which we felt was very good security. Quiet time was supposed to be 10pmish but as the site was so busy it wasn't quiet till 11.30pm.
Location - The location of the site was excellent, nearby local shops and near 3 major towns, Hastings, Eastbourne and Brighton.
Prices - The price for 2 adults and 2 children of us in a touring caravan without awning but with electric hook up was £16.45 - a good price for an overall good site.

Just returned from this site after spending 3 nights there.
Initially intended to stay for just 2 nights,but with the kids being on hoilday had the option for the extra night.
The camp itself is split into 2 fields upper/lower and we pitched in the lower field.The staff were extremely friendly and the field we were in was not numbered so we went wherever we liked.
This field(lower) was boggy in places but we found a good spot.
The toilet block only had 3 showers and 3 toilets(for each sex),but we never once had to queue to use them,and the washing up facilities had 4 (plus an extra sink in the laundry room) sinks,which were clean and had constant hot water.
The surrounding area had nature trails,fishing lakes and riding stables within a very short distance.We went on the nature trails which were colour coded and a very pleasant walk.The Children (aged 10 and 8) went for a horse riding hack(1/2 hour for £13 each) which they really enjoyed.The staff at the stables were again very friendly.We had our last meal from the local chippie in Horam which was also very tasty.
All in all a nice camp,friendly staff(no rush for us to leave the following day)and a good base to explore the South Downs.

This was an excellent site. It is the first time I have been camping outside of the Duke of Edinburgh scheme so my first relaxing camping trip which I went on with my boyfriend.
We went for the bank holiday weekend, my boyfriend wanted to start fishing again after about 10 years off. He / we caught about 30 fish, including some carp and lots of trench. I thought this was excellent for a first go!
The toilet and shower facilities were good. Plenty of toilets and sinks (which even had privary curtians which I thought was a nice touch). Never had to queue for toilets or sinks but on the second morning (out of two) I did have to queue for the shower so maybe that could be improved. Washing up facilities great.
The have a BBQ hiring facility for £5 a go but we used a disposable, who wants tp clean a BBQ?!
Spending one day on a fishing lake, we spent the other exploring a little. We went on the nature trail which was beautiful, bluebells everywhere, and walks round the other fishing ponds. We then ventured into the village which was generally closed up being a sunday. There is a tesco metro in nearby Heathfield which we drove past on the way.
Think thats about it, no criticism apart from our own lack-of-camping-experience mistakes ie wil bring a windbreaker and air mattress. We comfortably fit our 3 person tent and small car (Citroen C2) in the pitch which would have fitted the same again, but can imagine why other people with families and large tents/caravans may think the pitches are small.
We plan to go back in a couple of weeks so in all a good impression!
