Nice site, fairly level grass pitches, shop, nice beach, 90min offroad walk to Lochinver.

Pitches undefined so haphazard parking results in failure to keep safe distances.

Facilities quite good but in need of some maintenance and renewal.

A great location and a warm welcome, well worth another visit.

A bit of a problem for larger vehicles as the road is narrow with passing places,

But on the whole a pleasant site

We travelled as a couple with an infant and loved the location of this campsite; right next to a beautiful sheltered sandy beach.

The reception were pleasant, the showers hot and loved the 12noon check out to allow a morning paddleboarding.

The facilities were quite small but no queuing, a key was issued for the toilet block where needed for a £5 deposit.

I think the toilet block was about to be serviced when we left as the hand soap had run low and the floor needed a clean etc.

The reception has a collection of essential food items to buy.

I would definitely recommend to a family.

Driving to the site. Is an experience. With lots of twists and turns on a single track.

It is worth it

The site has access to one of Scotlands best beeches lovely clean clear water and lovely white sand.

The amenities are limited and only a small amount of hook ups

Toilets showers functional

On the whole don't miss this one I'd you are on the NC500

Upon arrival was a bit disconcerted that was a 'pitch where you like' policy; therefore a little congested around the EHU points; also that the touring site is not adjacent to (the amazing white sand and turquoise sea) Achmelvich Beach.

That said the location is still stunning and everyone on site was pleasant and friendly.

The site became busy, however even with Covid 19 rules in place, there were enough toilets, 2 showers and 3 basins so that never seemed to be queuing. On my first visit the basins were non too clean; that was down to the people using them and not wiping after themselves though as they were absolutely spotless after the Site Cleaning Team had been in.

Plenty of hot water in the washing up areas, again well managed re Covid19 rules.

Ah, the road in. On the one hand stunning as it tracks alongside the "river" inviting you to get on there in your kyaks, but with no access to do so directly; on the other hand twisty, turny and steep, with plenty of passing places. Be aware that the latest departure time is by 12 mid-day, as is the earliest arrival time! Not sure how two towed caravans meeting in the opposite direction would manage.

In summary a relatively quiet, very remote site; some good walking to be done directly from the site; and my first time out on the sea kyaking (once from the sandy Achmelvich Beach, the other from the rocky cove at the site).

NB I was not there with a child so unable to give a true Child Friendliness score as required to complete the review.

This is a lovely site for adults, with plenty of opportunity to walk over the hills and appreciate the spectacular views. The grass pitches were gently sloping with areas of very soft ground not suitable for larger or heavier vehicles.

If you are able to go without an electric hook up for a night or two I would recommend a site right On the grass edge in front of the small natural harbour

Sadly the site was unable to open the shower and toilet facilities due to pandemic precautions but laundry, dishwashing and chemical toilet facilities were open and safe.

The nearby beach with itís white sands is an amazing spot to sit back and relax, there is a second more secluded beach further along the coast, the walk there is a bit precarious and definitely not suitable for children but what a view, we were entertained for over half an hour by a large pod of dolphins leaping high out of the water, the group of kayakers coming across the bay had a close encounter as the dolphins came in to investigate.

Definitely worth going back.

Excellent site well positioned and well set up for the Covis virus precautions.

This is a natural site with very few set areas and this works well,

Close to an excellent beach with good facilities

Itís a place Iíd come back to

I last stayed here eight years ago in a tent and not much has changed. The site is accessed via a narrow single track road which only adds to the charm and remote feel of the place (unless you're driving a huge winnebago I suppose!)

The reception was staffed by a couple of youngsters who were friendly and helpful)

The site comprises of a central area with EHU's but no hard standings so it's first come first served and a little chaotic. We parked in the general camping area to the east where a few other vans were parked as it's fairly flat.

The facilities were basic but adequate. There were no queues that we saw even though the site was busy and given the the very reasonable site fees the location is good value.

The sandy bay next to the site is sheltered and perfect for families and water-sports (weather permitting)

It's hard to over emphasise just how beautiful the location is!

Shore Caravan Site at Achmelvich is quite a long drive down a single track lane (in total, just over 4 miles from Lochinver village), but thatís part of the attraction, and if you go during the summer season the site has its own chip shop. However, on an October evening, it didnít seem worth going out again in dismal weather. When we visited (mid-week), it was very quiet, with just a couple of tiny caravans and a few campervans. With strong winds forecast, and the site facing West into the cove, we chose to park nose into the wind to reduce buffeting.

The facilities were basic but plentiful. Four showers for each gender (though some were marked out of order). Behind each shower door there is a very small changing area (just enough space for the outer door to push inwards without hitting the fully-sealed shower cubicles within. BUT as the inner shower cubicles have doors that swing out into the changing area, you need to open the cubicle before changingÖ or you get trapped and need to wrap up and step out into the corridor to get the doors right. Complicated? Well, you wonít make the mistake of not opening the cubicle before changing more than once! The showers are reasonable electric ones, so no problem getting hot water, but the drains in the ladies were blocked so very soon stood in water Ė that kept the shower VERY short. The shower units also smelled like they needed a good scrub with anti-bacterial cleaner.

Given that the beach is popular for watersports in better weather (and despite the websiteís warnings about jellyfish, weaver fish and other potential nasties), itís nice to see that the management ask campers not to enter the facilities in wet suits, presumably for the comfort of others.

There are washing up facilities provided inside and outside (though the later gave the sheep somewhere to shelter from the wind). But all round, the facilities seem old and tired. This is site for units and campers that are fairly self-reliant, and attracted to the natural beauty of the shoreline, not for needy holiday makers, who will find holiday parks elsewhere more to their taste.

One of the most beautiful settings we have visited. The site is right on the coast with an absolutely stunning beach and surroundings. Quite an exciting drive down to the site but the bus does it and they managed to get statics here but heaven only knows how! Friendly family owners with a laid back approach to pitching. We found a nice spot only for a noisy idiot to camp right on top of us in his hire motor home. Facilities good but abused by the amateur campers that spoil things for others sadly, but nice toilets and a good shower was managed. 6amp electric that is fine for those that know what they are doing but not so for those that think they are connected direct to Doonreay! NO DOGS allowed that is fine by us but a bit of a shock if you have driven for the many miles it takes to get here. We know for a fact that there were several dogs concealed in units that went walkies when they thought no-one was looking! There is plenty of info on line about the local walks and attractions but no real evidence of same on site, however the nearby wildlife wardens hut has it all. A must visit place for the surroundings alone.
