We stayed at this campsite for 3 nights while touring the North country.

The campsite facilities are very clean and tidy, with lovely spacious showers.

The Caravan and Motorhome Club campsites all have the same showers, which are the best we have used and where the water does not keep turning off automatically and you can adjust the heat, rather then be scalded.

The only negative point is the campsite is not in a good location and it is not safe to walk to the Park & Ride, which is only around the corner. We took the motorhome and parked in the Park & Ride car park.

Durham is a nice town with a bit of character. Worth visiting the Beamish Open Air Museum which was very interesting and worth the money.

Very clean and tidy site with warm welcome.

There is some traffic noise though as is very close to A1. But it is ideal for exploring Durham only £2 return on park and ride or about £10 in taxi.

There is a pub and club in walking distance but we didn't go.

Great site for a Stopover or visit to Durham.

Our 3rd visit to this site, never disappoints.

Easy arrival, the site was very quiet so we got a pitch near the toilet block.

Toilets are immaculate, but there was a faulty window near the urinals in the men's that was jammed open, it was -6C outside and it made the whole block cold.

Great dog walk directly from the site, leading to the river path

We will certainly be here again.

Site is located of the busy (and noisy) A1M, usual C&MC standard for facilities, good sized pitches and good TV reception.

Downside is access to Durham without a car. The A690 acts as a main dual carriageway into Durham from the A1M and has no footpath, a meandering riverside walk does exist by the none traffic) route to the riverside involves a good mile walk before accessing the river.

Alternatively a Park & Ride is located on the opposite side on the A1M – again no footpath, so this involves crossing the dual carriageway (twice), and the access route to the A1M (twice) with lots of fast moving traffic.

Having said that the riverside walk through the dense forest is delightful and Durham itself is a little gem. The cathedral is a must visit, plus another riverside walk in the town centre.

Overall handy site as stop off travelling North or South on the A1M, but constant traffic noise, and no really convenient to visit Durham without a car.

Just off the main A1/M1, top of the slip road, a couple of hundred metres and you are there.

Really well placed for stopovers travelling North or South or for visiting Durham.

We had booked on for 2 nights but we cancelled the 2nd due to constant road noise from the A1/M1. For others it won't be a problem and we spoke to others who said was worth the noise for convenience to visit Durham

Have to say that the site wardens are the best we have come across on CAMC in striking a mix between dealing with Covid restrictions and running a caravan park. They have closed some showers and loos for social distancing but nowhere near as many as some other sites. They are cleaning twice a day but not needing to extend cleaning times as other CAMC sites are

Shop on site open and stocked, again unlike other CAMC, it really felt more like a regular campsite due to the efforts and attitude if the link lovely wardens.

There is a really nice dog walk that takes you down to the river from where you can walk into the city.

OK for a stopover as straight off A1. Difficult road to cross to get to Park & Ride.

Pleasant 3 mile river walk into Durham but can be very muddy.

Some pitches need a longer cable for electric so we had to move.

If the Caravan Club were more flexible with the pitching of small campervans, this wouldn't have been a problem.

Friendly welcome to clean and tidy club site. Well kept standard club facilities. The site is close to A1 so there is some traffic noise, a steady hum so you get used to it.

Handy for park and ride to Durham and about 30 minutes to Newcastle. Loads to see and do within an hours drive including the coast and Hadrians wall.

Dog walk on site and riverside walk just off site. No local amenities but basics available in reception.

I'm sure we will return as we have family in the area.

Easy to find off m1. Nice size level pitch usual cmc facilities.

You can hear traffic but didn't bothers us but some might find it annoying. The reason we wouldn't come back to site other than stop over is trying to get across road is to dangerous.

Road too busy and travelling too fast. Got the bus twice that involves crossing road £3 return.
