Awesome site - small but really friendly, book early to ensure you get a pitch.

The faculties are pretty good, showers could do with an update, but there clean. Pub is fantastic and meals are excellent.

The walks on the old railway line to the ice cream Parlour is a gentle but lovely walk.

We called in on our way back from Bakewell and stayed for the night. Just one other campervan on site so plenty of room! Basic toilets but that's all we need.

Great situation being right on the trail so plenty of easy walking either towards Buxton or back towards Ashbourne.

Lovely helpful staff, booked in easily then had a great meal in the pub. Went back to the campervans and lit the firepit and settled down for the night. Called back to the bar for a few nightcaps and a natter.

Excellent breakfast in the pub in the morning as we decided to treat ourselves.

We will be back very soon, only 30 miles from home so will be great for a quick Fri/Sat away.

Highly priced. Have to vacate pitch by 11am. Noisy. Beside busy main road.

Pot washing facility's one sink splattered with bird poo from chicks nesting. Not our cup of tea. No inclination to return.

Plus point pub was nice. Buxton close by.

Campsite not entirely level. Other than that we loved it. Ideal for walking. Very dog friendly including pub.

Food delicious as was beer. Staff very friendly. Showers and toilets very clean. Would return any time.

Very good price

 Not Happy Chappie. !

Booked and paid for 3 nights at the Royal Oak campsite. Arrived on Good Friday afternoon and agree the weather was awful.

Went inside and spoke to a very polite gentleman who's reply was to when I explained that driving onto the grass was not an option because it was so wet, O yes we've closed the lower area you'll have to park on the gravel area at the top, this by the way was the parking area for campers, staff etc.

A bit disappointed he made no effort to come outside and assist nor really was there a mention of refund, not that I asked. Should have done I guess.

Anyway parked up and stayed 1 night. We then moved on to another site in Buxton.

Had food in the pub. This I must stress was Very Nice.

To sum up. If wet stay away poor drainage. Shame because beautiful area right next to the Tissington trail.

 The Royal Oak Hurdlow.

Lovely area with great walks along the tissington trail. Pitch is on a slight slope with no electric hook up.

Shower & washing facilities are very good & clean.

Nice charming pub with great food menu and a roaring log fire for winter week ends. We had no internet or phone network whilst their as it is in a valley.

WI FI is available free in the pub and a TV to watch in the bar.

We had a really nice welcome, pitched on the lower field which was level, mown and clean.

The toilets and showers were clean too in spite of an influx of walkers and campers walking in the cut grass. With a full site the only two toilets in the ladies block might cause some difficulties.

The service and food could not have been bettered either. A really great place to stay as it is right on the walkers routes.

Compliments to all, especially the kitchen crew and bar staff.

Just spent two nights at the Royal Oak, turned up on spec having previously stayed on here. Monday evening had a meal on the patio.

The food was excellent just like last time, the staff are very helpful and friendly. Close enough to Ashbourne and Buxton to have days out in both.

There were quite a few Duke of Edinburgh participants, who to their credit weren't noisy at all, in fact the only noise was the extractor fan from the kitchen which went off around ten pm.

One slight concern the pot wash facility had no hot water and was a little grubby.

Would definitely recommend this site if only for the food 10/10

We stayed here with another family for the may bank holiday. The site was quite busy but there was still plenty of room. Staff were friendly and helpful. There were lots of cyclists on the site making the most of the trail that runs down the back of the site. We ate at the pub one night which we thought was good value and yummy.

The only thing that lets this site down is the toilets. They are very small and there are only 2 loos. This was not enough for a full campsite and the bunk barns which offer youth hostel type accommodation. The toilets were not that clean either (possibly because so many people were using them. )

That said I would visit this site again as it was friendly, just quiet/noisy enough (we like a bit of life going on around us) and was perfectly situated for exploring this beautiful part of the peaks.

Great location. Goes straight onto the tissington/high peak trail. Easy access for Bakewell/Buxton

Good pub. Good beers on draught :) Didn't try the food but it looked good and the pub was busy - going back when the weathers better as it rained whilst we were there.

Open air washing up facilities so when it rains you get a bit wet! - toilets and showers OK.

Ideal for those who want to take their bikes and expolore the Peak District
